weird electrical issue... help please? so I had a single sub, amp, and new door speakers installed, and I never had this issue before. basically, while im driving, the abs light and ebrake light will flash on, headlights will flicker, speedo will lose power, and radio will restart all at the same time. it never lasts for more than a second or so, happens randomly. I tried a few different things to make it happen (high boost, idle, low speed, low speed shifting, high rpm, start and stop) and it seems to be legitimately random. and as of yesterday, the battery was drained after sitting for half a day. i had the battery changed last month, so im pretty sure it was good. I always make sure the accessport shuts off when I park, and nothing else (that I know of) is drawing power. I think the alternator is either going out, or doesn't have enough power to push the system, plus the electronics for the car. another friend said it could be a bad ground or relay. if anyone can offer some insight on this, i would greatly appreciate it. i don't want to replace the battery until i know whats going on. |
That could be a bad ground. Trace any wires coming off your battery terminal. If they improperly grounded the wire it could be overheating and causing these issues. Does it start immediately after a cold start up, or does it take a little time before these issues happen? Try a new grounding location or fix the bad job they did. I don't know off-hand the wiring diagram for our fuse box, but they could have tapped into that and causing it to randomly short out when the wires get to hot, or touch/cross. Check for any exposed wiring. On the other hand it could be a battery/alternator issue. I had similar issues when my battery was on it's way out. |
how many miles are on the car? Could be at regulator is going bad and under or over charging system causing lights to go on. Under 9v or over 16 or 19 forget I think is over charging. Would cause that. Could have just been too much draw for a faulty alt. |
sounds like the draw from the battery is too weak with your new audio setup... get the battery tested and replaced if necessary, and check the alt too. |
