Well stock clutch it was nice knowing you Well at 51k miles my stocker started to slip. First noticed while ripping through 4th into 5th on the highway earlier tonight. I'm debating on either replacing with the 6 puck from edge or stocking out, sell and pick up something else. That something else would be a ms6 or just get an evo x. AWD FTW! For those of you wondering on why I am contemplating on getting a new car. I was just hired by another company. My pay is going up 3-4x what I am making now. There is a thread here just search. Now I probably will be getting an Evo X in the future, however I just may use this as an excuse to get one now and put the 1k for the clutch into the new car. |
Evo tappin from the Note II |
An Evo X is all out??? Lmao Sent using my EVO LTE on tappy |

lol "i dont want to spend 1k to fix my clutch so maybe i should buy a new car!" what happens when you need to replace your windshield wipers on your new car? |
Ok I'm going to edit my OP so you guys understand my situation a little bit better lol |

@TRex; didn't mean to groan you man. Hit the wrong button lol Ohh to answer your question: I just buy another car! Lmao |

op: if making 3-4x as much, why not keep the ms3 fix the clutch and then get an evo VIII or IX? I'd also consider a mustang gt, they're hawt. |
51K and already need a new clutch? I'm at 60K and guess i'm on borrowed time then. Every other car I've owned before this one has gone at least 100k before needing a clutch. |

116k on mine and no signs of trouble. Had the Trans off and it looked so good I didn't even replace it lol. You're doing something wrong! Tapatalking |
I got 105K on my stock clutch and it grabs high but it doesnt seem to slip. People keep recommending I change it though. Thought about gettin a new old before i get tuned in the spring |

Out of three vehicles this is the earliest I've ever had a clutch go on me. Ohh well. Quote:

Orrrrrr a wwp ms6! |
I would get an evo IX over the X. I am at 83k miles on stock clutch btw. |
The evo X stock clutch is prone to overheating. I've had a few bow out of dig races because of it :-) Tapatalking |

Well more than likely (99% sure) I will be replacing the clutch. Trying to get a hold of Edge to see if they can offer a better price on the ACT 6 puck w/ prolite considering Streetunit has them priced considerably lower. Also whoever can get one to me the fastest will get my money cause I need to drive to Georgia (from PA) in 4 weeks. |
My stocker just went at 94k...... If you keep the 3 get the ACT... You won't regret it Pm"d you op |
I'm at 84k miles on stock clutch with a gtx3071r Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 |
Well I ordered an ACT 6 puck w/prolite. Hoping to rip everything apart and have the new one in, in one weekend. |
How's it going? Did you get the replacement installed and working yet? How was the install? Did you do it on jackstands or did you have access to a lift? What made you choose the prolite vs the streetlite flywheel option? |

http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...nstall-135546/ I ended up just having my mechanic doing it. For one we trust him and does very good work and two, he quoted me an excellent price. Well my car is still at my mechanics garage. Been there since Thursday. So that's how it's going. Long story short; 1) Mechanic and his assistant had car apart ready to pull trans on Thursday last week. 2) Assistant doesn't show up to work Friday morning, Mike (mechanic) can't get in touch with him all day so nothing gets done. Turns out he was in the hospital all day. 3) He doesn't work weekends. 4) Assistant comes back up to work today. They have new clutch in and are finally reassembling car. I "should" have it back tomorrow. I will make a thread on my opinions/thoughts on how the new clutch feels and everything once I drive it around for a bit. |

I really couldn't tell you why I bought one over the other. I just did. |

There must have been some reason. This isn't like voting for a president where you equally hate both candidates that are most likely to win. Something must have swayed you. |

I know that is not much to go on, but when the options came up for which one to purchase, I immediately went for the kit with the pro-lite. I didn't even debate the two. Or because racecar... |
My stocker started slipping around 400wtq... My ACT ZX4-HDSS clutch has held great ever since at up to 470wtq... |

Prolite: super light; lowest inertia; super fast throttle response; rpm's rise and drop very quickly. Good for road racing or auto xing - that's about it. Sucks for launching/drag racing as its hard to feather it. Sucks in stop and go city traffic and stop and go on hills. Streetlite is still lighter than stock so there will still be reduced drive-ability but not so exacerbated as the prolite. As for the clutch, Jack stands are just as easy i think. Get it nice and high - drop the subframe, shift linkage, axles and remainder of the plugs/harnesses. Grab an engine hoist/support leveler and remove rmm and tranny mount. loosen the PMM and drop the turd out. sounds fun! |
Every car is different as we all know. I was chatting with a few guys at the last Nator PA meet. Told them I bought my car as an R title with 24k miles. We were thinking the previous owner was some douchebag kid who beat the shit out of the car. Stupid me for buying it, but couldn't pass an awesome deal up. I'd bet if I parted out or had finkle back some boost and timing off my tune, the stock clutch would hold fine. I didn't want to do that though. |
fwiw I have a prolite I hate it. Hills suck and if I hit a stop sign with more than 1 car in front of me I slash my wrists. It's butt. Also, I never thought the stock speed 3 clutch was bad....and everyone seems to think it is. |

To each their own! |

I came. Then I had to go back to the prolite :sad2: |
I really didn't have a problem with the stock clutch engagement. In fact to me I think it could have been a little more on/off, but that's just me and my driving style. |
mastering the contact point brought me closer to my car |

Update. Picked car up on Friday. Have about a 100 miles or so on the clutch. I have some chatter in 1st starting out from a stop and downshifts w/o rev match are a little rough, both are manageable. Other than that, it's going good. I'm doing a soft break-in, basically 400-500 miles of easy driving. I will be doing a review thread in the next day or so, so keep a look out for it. |
