What clutch to get?

Im going to be needing a clutch soon and I want to order in the next week or so.Im guessing ACT seems to be a better clucth then spec from some of the reading ive done.Im open to any suggestions tho but I would like a clutch that will last almost as long as the stocker or longer would be nice but with the mods I have Im not sure i should go with a OEM replacment.I do go to the dragstrip a few times a year and I do alot of stop and go traffic to and from work everyday but if the clutch is hard to push in that dont bother me.There dont seem to be much info on people who have installed new clutchs yet so I feel like Im kinda in the dark on what to get..Any info you guys may have would be cool..

Thanks.

I have a guestion..I read that we cant have our flywheels turned down so Im wondering if it would be ok to use again without having it turned.I not hearing any noise but I can tell the clutch is about ready to do.I would like to go with a ACT clutch but I dont really want a puck design but if I did I would go with the 6 puck.I could go with the spec 3+ but I dont have the cash to get a new flywheel also so Im wondering if I would be good to use the stocker again.Normaly when i change a clutch I have the flywheel done.

doesn't street unit have the act clutch with flywheel up on their website?

iirc, it was like $900 with free shipping....use 3% off for more discount....that maybe a little more expensive than other clutch/flywheel combos

silverspd3 01-31-2009 09:18 PM

not really i spent $900 on a spec stage 3 clutch and flywheel on my svt focus.... and about the flywheel.. i would do both.. u will be doing urself a favor.. mine as well do the flywheel while ur doing the clutch.... just my 2 cents

Look into warranty issues before you do anything. On my previous car(V6 Tiburon) I installed a STG 3 clutch and flywheel. Not too long after I had transmission problems and took it to Hyundai for warranty work.(I only had 17K miles) Long story short, they denied my transmission warranty due to the aftermarket clutch and flywheel.

With that said is their a stronger MAZDASPEED clutch available?

THere is a vendor selling the act clutch and flywheel for about $700 BUT its a puck type clutch.Im sure you guys know the act street stage clutch is not a puck type but its only rated to about 350tq and I dont want something that is being pushed to its limit.
I could get a stage 3+ spec for about the same price but I would have to use the stock flywheel and if it cant be turned I dont know if using it is a good idea.

Warranty???Whats that? I have to many mods to think about my warranty because I will not have a week to put it all back to stock before taking it in and the fact that I have 40k miles on my car now and I think the warranty is up at 36k miles..

silverspd3 01-31-2009 10:35 PM

yea since ur out of warranty then do both
