booya620 11-25-2008 05:25 PM

what mod?

Current:cobb sri, su 63a mm, cs testpipe, pg cdfp, cobbAP, forge bpv, itv22's, cobb shifter weight (dashhawk)
which one next?
1. streetunit TMIC,
2. Turbo Inlet,
3. downpipe,
4. sways and springs,
5. short throw shifter,
6. mazdaspeed exhaust,
7. meth kit
I'm looking to spend under 600. what will make me enjoy my car the most? my goal by june is to be under 13.5/300whp

Lymerock 11-25-2008 05:35 PM

had you asked me yesterday, i would have said dp
but now that it seems boost cut may relate/get worse with exhaust mods, I cant jump to that conclusion.
im gonna lean toward sways and springs
i feel weird saying that, but if you get into the boost cut bullshit that alot of us are suffering though you will just be another miserable man behind the wheel

boost cut issues will be worked out, but who knows when exactly.
take a look at my mods... my car is almost undriveable whenever I get agressive because it cuts so fast, so often.

red07 11-25-2008 06:10 PM

I have to go w/ Lymerock and say sway/springs, the feel of the car will improve dramatically. That won't get you into the 13's though...

If you want more HP, then SU TMIC. If it fits like the ETS, then it should be <2 hour install worst case scenario, and should provide easy gains + support for further mods/tuning.

booya620 11-25-2008 06:14 PM

wow, didn't realize you were pretty much fully bolted. you pull all that off when you auto-x? whats your time down to pulling the downpipe and manifold off? my lazy ass would be running stx and getting beat bad

booya620 11-25-2008 06:16 PM

I can pull my stock tmic off in 4 minutes. what type of fabrication has to be done on the 3.25?

TMIC, down pipe. There should be a noticable gain with these parts. After that, map clamp and MBC to turn up the boost.

kingpin748 11-25-2008 08:10 PM

Corksport DP. Lymerock is clearly drunk.

No wait, that's me.

SharkDiver 11-25-2008 08:44 PM

I would say TMIC or DP with high flow cat..There is a CPE catted DP for sale now in the FS section for a good price,Jump on it.

Definitely TMIC and/or DP...

Though, the stock suspension is crap and you will have to replace your shocks very soon.

heh, ive supassed the point where I remove all this stuff for autox. Im looking at a ride in a S2000 for next season. If that falls though, it will take me a few days to get back to bone stock with every bolt and heat shield replaced.

as far as the 3.25" tmic, how long does it take you to remove 3 12mm nuts, 2 hose clamps, 1 vac line, 1 recirc hose, swap over the cold pipe and then reverse the process? 20 mins?
not a hard install at all.
and tmic since its on the intake side will avoid the cut issues.

As said, Id be all over telling someone to go with a dp, but boost cut is the lamest shit in town, and if you modify the exhaust, its possible you will start to cut, especially since its almost winter. the AP hasnt fixed this and the SB fixes this by lowering boost, so in a nutshell, dp could lead to headaches.
people will disagree, but they might not know what some of us know from experience

my current issue now is that I boost creep till cut kicks in
if you remove the boost cut limits, id possibly be boosting to 30psi+ by redline. As it is, I can hit 25psi with cuts, so to all those that think the turbo cant do it... think again. Might not be efficient, but it can hit those numbers.

cut will be worked out in the future, but we arent there yet
my .02

I am surprised that nobody has tried to port the stock wastegate get to solve boost creep/cut.

Or try and run a EWG. Most likely either of those would control the boost problems people are having.

SharkDiver 11-26-2008 07:15 AM

Im not getting boost cut with my DP/racepipe.Im running v1.03N map with no problems.

not sure there is much room to port the stock wg. ewg would definately solve the creep problem, but I want to try a few more things before I go to that extreme

here is a pic showing how little overlap there already is

booya620 11-26-2008 10:27 PM

hey thanks for the replies, I'm prob gonna get sways spring and a tmic, in some order. then wait until the accesstuner/portune software is released to work on the exhaust end. along with some tires and rx8 rims. goig aftermarket on rims seems out of my price range. Lyme those wed rims you got are crazy expensive you get a good deal?

StewRat 11-26-2008 11:38 PM

Um, Not sure about your list, but Id buy a set of good tires. With your mods right now I think you should be able to hit 13.5 with some skill, hell I hit 13.7 with Intake and Motor Mount, and Im bad at draggin.

We do that with all of our SST's. They come with a ported exhaust housing, if you don't you will get crazy boost creep and way out of control EGT's.

Lymerock, there is a ton of room in there to port with. You just have to be careful with the inside wall.

Lymerock 11-27-2008 10:09 PM

PTP (i need your real name, saying PTP sounds erm.. gay)
anyway, what is the minimal overlap for the stock wg that you would feel comfortable with?
2mm? 3mm? more, less?

new territory for me. Ive rebuilt turbos plenty of times, but never messed with the stock boost control systems

booya620 11-28-2008 12:43 PM

^^^maybe we could have a mod start a new thread with the above info? I highly doubt that anyone even a month for now is gonna give a shit about some noob thread about what mod I should get (ended up ordering a tmic and sways). The info on the pill might actually be useful to someone though...Just a thought
