What RPM to launch at?

Mods are in Sig...never really launched on a dig but its about time I learn in this car. What RPMs are you guys launching from?

mtnrunner 05-11-2010 01:26 AM

street i would launch around 2800, drop the clutch with dsc all the way off. i only got four runs at the track when i went but my best 60' was a 2.145 from dumping the clutch at like 3400.

It is going to depend on your track surface, temperature and your tires. On the street, with my mods in sig, I roast the tires hopelessly at anything over 2,300 rpm, even trying to feather the damn thing, and get bad wheel hop in second too. On the track here, depending on temps, I can launch at 2,400 to 2,500 rpm without too much spin.

But, I'm probably the wrong guy to ask for advice, because my 60 ft. times still suck. 2.2's if I'm lucky. Too many 2.3's still. I just don't have the right technique yet. Runs like a banshee once she hooks, up, though. Need stickier tires, but mostly need the driver mod. lol.

I find myself never having to really launch, just take off normally to get yourself rolling and then get on it and go! You'll probably still roast your tires and get a ton of wheel hop if you don't have a RMM or grippy tires, but it's better than roasting 'em off the line.

not many mods here...but normally i launch at 3k but i dont dump it...i just let it out like i normally do...just a little bit quicker...i get the clutch to the point where it is right about to engage...then release and floor it....having it almost to engagement really limits the drop on the drive train...plus smooth clutch work while shifting (not drop it) always feels so much faster

26-28psi front / 38-40psi rear

Don't go thru water

2400-2600rpms

slip clutch out

modulate throttle to limit wheel spin

power shift into 2nd at ~5500rpms

2.0 - 2.1 60ft (consistently)

JamesDL 05-20-2010 08:56 PM

ms3077 what tires are you on?

Damn, if I could get a 2.0 or even a 2.1, shit, I'd be down to 13.2 or 13.3. I'll work on this. I have been keeping tire pressures at stock level. I'll try dropping down a bit in the front. I had heard from guys that I thought knew some shit that low profile steet radials did not respond well to lower pressures at the strip, but WTF do I know. Gotta give it a try now. But now I'm on A/S tires and having to relearn launch anyway. Thanks

cant wait to take my car to the track only had it for a couple months....thankz for the input...but OP r u getting any fuel cutoff? cuz ur sig doesnt mention a hpfp n alot of the bigger guys on here say it is necessary once u put in a DP

jamesrobertbussey 05-29-2010 03:26 PM

Have you guys tried drag radials or is that too much for the front end to handle?

Overkill 05-30-2010 04:48 PM

Set the wotbox up @4400rpm and build boost drop the clutch and hope the m/t et streets 245/45/17 hook and the box/clutch/drive shatfs dont stay behind on the line

I've thought about that but I want to say it is.. But most YouTube videos you see with MS3s they have radials they're running excellent times.. But then again that's YouTube.. and our cars aren't really made for the drag strip..

mines set at 4500 right now, not gonna be dumping the clutch tho, always slip it.

Hectik1 06-02-2010 09:36 PM

I've found launching at 2500-3000 rpms (depending on conditions) works the best. Got a 2.1 60ft on all-seasons.

ganque 11-29-2010 07:23 AM

What about using wotbox at 5000 ft over sea level with a shitty track? I was thinking on setting it up to 2800 rpm (Right now is @ 3200 rpm and wheels spin as a bitch!)
