Who has the most miles on their original engine?

How many over 100,000 miles? If so original turbo and mounts? What kind of problems?

taf0422 04-26-2010 06:02 PM

Im not too sure if theres too many out there with over 100,000 miles...

lenny might be close with 70k...i think

darth vader 04-26-2010 06:07 PM

Geez, it's a 3 year old car at most...you Americans must live in your cars, only snatching a few minutes sleep every few hours, to get up and keep driving, to hit 100,000 MILES in 3 years....:wow:

felt 04-26-2010 06:09 PM

I'm in the 35,000 range

Motor: 1st one

I don't see why any of these cars wouldn't last that long if taken care of, but given they were sold originally at the end of 2006 that would mean anyone with 100,000 miles already has to be averaging close to 30,000 miles a year, which is not typical.

I'll bump this thread in 2013 when I have 100,000 miles on mine without any problems outside of normal maintenance.

18psiWhiteMS3 04-26-2010 06:12 PM

11,500 first motor

taf0422 04-26-2010 06:18 PM

i currently have a late 2006 model ms3 that just turned 34K today :(

Sucks when your daily driver decides to call it quits..awesome..hopefully I'll be able to park the during the week again soon! but for right now it is making my 70 miles commute for me..gahh I hate racking up the miles on this thing

06Speed6 04-26-2010 06:43 PM

Ill roll over 96k this weekend.

Original engine, clutch, and turbo. Catless dp for 60k miles, no smoke. Original spark plugs too lmao.

xcoldricex 04-26-2010 07:41 PM

07 ms3 ~49k.

CAI/SRI for almost all of the miles. added much more as I went.
failed SST, back to stock turbo.

had to replace:
powersteering pump
starter
slave cylinder (my fault)

6/10: ~52k - stock turbo replacement smoking :P

madvillain 04-26-2010 07:46 PM

I've had mine for just over two years and haven't clocked 15,000 yet :sombrero:

ElBartoRex 04-26-2010 07:46 PM

58k, original motor and turbo. Never seen any smoke. Ran catless for about 30k of that.

mazdaspeed6tony 04-26-2010 07:48 PM

2006 ms6. some ecu flash done clutch tsb done. been catless for 15k miles. 34k miles on it now. no smoke, no problems. love it!

mtxandy 04-26-2010 07:51 PM

I have already put 8k on my 3 month old car (got it new). I'll be at 100k in just a few more months guys. lol

Sacrilicious 04-26-2010 07:52 PM

07 ms3 with 51k on the original motor and turbo. i have about 30k on my cobb DP, and the only time i've seen smoke was when i was burning off the residue on the inside of the TBE pipes after i installed them. cobb stage 2+ fmic retuned with ATR for smooth and safe power 4tmfw...

btw...it's pretty damn easy to get to 100k in 3 yrs if you have a shitty commute. my gf hasn't even had her car (civic) for half a freakin year, and it's got 14k miles on it. she's right on track for 100k in 3 yrs unless she gets away from this 50 mile (each way) commute of hers...

214mazdaspeeder 04-26-2010 08:02 PM

06 MS6 59K blown stock bpv blown power steering pump and smoke since day 1 when I got it. I got it used with ~30k

johnnymsp3 04-27-2010 11:38 AM

I have a 2008 MS3 with almost 66k. Yeah, I drive a lot.

meicalnissyen 04-27-2010 01:00 PM

Yeah, IIRC the highest mileage I've heard of is MattOKC over on 6club went 104k or so before it blew a rod. He was tuned with SB @ ~18 psi for most of those miles.

Here's the opening quote:

Wow, so here I am. After 109,000 miles and not one single failure on the car other than have the VVT pin replaced under warranty and a wireless smart key sensor needing replaced, I lose the engine. Here are the gory details:
.............A couple days ago after a rather low key 10 mile trip on the highway, I was coasting at about 60 mph and THUNK! immediately followed by a rough shaking to the engine as I put it in neutral and let it idle as I coasted. The rpms dropped to about 500 and then it seized. Oil was everywhere underneath the car. ...............[/b]

meeker13 04-27-2010 01:20 PM

36k 06 MS6...it sits in the garage most of the time!
Its nice to have a work truck to drive every day.

2007 MS6 with 55K Original Engine and Clutch. Second Turbo (still smokes whenever it is inconvenient)

Been modded (to some degree) most of those 55K

myzoomzoom3 04-27-2010 01:23 PM

75,000 on 07 ms3!!!! just now starting modds good idea?

gsrtype1 04-27-2010 01:32 PM

71k fully bolted and tuned 20psi+ most of those miles. stock engine, turbo and tranny. No issues and never used oil. Clutch started slipping around 40k but I drive hard.

dougefresh_ 04-27-2010 01:33 PM

29,8xx miles on my 2006 MS6. The gf carts us to work and back each day b/c she has parking in Boston at her job, but I do not. =)

pickledherring 04-27-2010 09:01 PM

74K on my '07 MS3... on my second pair of shocks today, and more smoke than a Juarez tire fire.... just started reading about the fixes on the forum... i never did any auto work, but i have rebuilt my motorcycle.. hope i can do this, the smoke and fumes are getting embarrassing :O

lol, the old smokey turbo acting up? Good luck wading through the multiple fixes.. none of which work 100% that I've seen with one BIG exception... a bigger turbo. Get a BT and kiss your smokey turbo issue bs goodbye! Seriously though, there are different approaches, don't know what mods you have, etc.. I'm sure you'll do fine and good luck with the smoke. I started smoking a lot if I idle now for like 5 mins. I've cut the engine at long lights. It's because I added a TP, which knocked out my second cat, and further reduced back pressure. Before any mods, I only smoked 3 times in over a year. My current smoke is mild though... not like the James Bond smoke screen I put out before, lol. GL

car46999 04-29-2010 07:32 PM

2008 ms3, all stock (boost gauge), 29k miles.
Zero problems.

40 grand on a 08 ms3. Revised turbo at 35 grand. SRI, gutted test, b/g, and hybrid bpv. Rolls strong, at a mile high.

jman46 04-30-2010 03:26 PM

jracer 05-02-2010 01:15 PM

really didnt need the clutch or turbo.. but got it replaced cuz the tsb's..
how dumb would it be to mod more than my sig??.. i have a lead on a used motor.. for a spare or to build...

boosties 05-31-2010 08:53 PM

I just broke 91,000 miles on my '07, then my car died!

So I was literally 100 feet from my house when all of a sudden my oil pressure light started to flash and then my car just died. So I pop the hood and I didnt smell any oil burning, but there was a lot of oil in my INTAKE tube and filter (COBB SRI). So I had it towed to the dealership and the next day they said my engine probably seized. So now my speed is sitting in the backyard and I'm looking around for a stock motor to swap back in, then trade it in for a new car. Does anyone have suggestions on where I could find a STOCK motor for sale?

jamesthebikeguy 05-31-2010 09:00 PM

all but the first 1k had some sort of modding combo

Nikolai 06-01-2010 01:16 PM

73k, original everything (besides tires, replaced those @52k mi.)

Want to do some light modding and stop with SRI, Cobb AP, test pipe, FP internals, and TMIC... But hearing more and more about blown engines scares the poo out of me!

Lex 06-01-2010 01:41 PM

^^ your tires lasted 52k miles?????

tomanz 06-01-2010 01:48 PM

I purchased my '07 speed 3 about a month and a half ago with 103,000 miles. As far as I know it is all original but a few weeks ago my clutch gave out and I'm working on fixing that now.

ChrisK 06-01-2010 02:59 PM

I've now got 58k on mine. I'm averaging about 500-1000 miles a week right now. Hopefully that will end.

I'm at 38K on the original Re050's and they have at least 15K left.

I do a lot of highway driving and almost never floor it until higher speeds so that helps. I also never accelerate to red lights and then jam the brakes either, that eats your tires too. I always just coast and scrub off speed slowly downshifting. Sure the people behind me hate it but fuck em.

The stock tires can last a long time if you drive a certain way.

cld12pk2go 06-05-2010 07:53 AM

My stock tires were a serious safety liability on wet roads by 28k...

Matrix311 06-08-2010 11:22 AM

56k miles on my 2007 Speed3. Fully bolted and 19psi since 5,000 miles. No issues at all. Still runs strong.

Vansquish 06-08-2010 11:48 AM

I'm at nearly 56k, bought the car about 10 months ago (early Sept. '09) with 44796 miles. Car was perfect when I bought it, but developed some smoke after it started getting cold here in MI (bought it in Houston and drove it cross-country). Fitted the PTP pill and switched to 5W-40 Full Synthetic and now it doesn't smoke at all. Runs like a top too, except for a faulty driver's-side door sensor which works when it decides it wants to.

Bought new tires in November, as the old ones were down to 2/32 of tread. I've still got between 8/32 and 9/32 remaining on all of them, and they started with 11/32 new. At that rate, I'm looking at around 39,600miles for this set of tires if I keep using them the way I have been. Amazingly I've got no uneven wear despite the OEM rear camber on the MS6.

div2 06-09-2010 10:54 PM

2007 MS3 with 60K. Original owner.
LF strut replaced at 25K
Smoking turbo replaced at 26K
MSCAI installed at 43K
VVT Actuator replaced at 46K
Tires replaced at 25K and 53K
Front pads/rotors replaced at 59K
Getting ready to fit Bilstein HDs and a Hypertech re-flash.

stefan 06-09-2010 11:04 PM

08.5 just turned 13k last weekend.
dp/intake/inlet/hpfp installed for 3k miles now, the rest more recently.

thajones 06-13-2010 08:02 PM

08, 91k miles, still runs quite well! EGR light has been off/on for the last, oh, 20k miles or so, not too heavily modded but enough to make me smile sometimes still - racepipe, 2 resonators removed from stock exhaust, Cobb SRI, PG inlet, RX8 wheels w/ 235/4018 rubber (which I coaxed to last about 65k miles

Ehh, that's about it as far as mods that aren't purely show.

In the market now for a CBE (I'd like a little deeper tone/rumble), and an AP.

Who says you can't mod over 100k?

jross993 06-13-2010 08:19 PM

08 just rolled over 10k yesterday:neener: bought it late april all stock. On a completely different note, my mom has a 2004 Honda CR-V with 250k, she bought it brand new December 03.

Haltech 06-13-2010 08:31 PM

77k, 75k of it modded.

About 45k above 350wtq. About 15k above 400wtq.

slw97 08-28-2012 12:32 AM

2007 ms3 original everything minus front struts and bushings. Mods are MS CAI gutted 2nd CAT tuned on 18psi.

FreeFlyFreak 08-28-2012 03:09 AM

1st engine about 30K maxed out tune (Badly implemented FFS killed it).
2nd engine, 24K mostly stock 'cept intake.

06Speed6 08-28-2012 03:23 AM

I guess I can now say that my stock engine lasted 147k miles, original everything except the vcts valve.

EDIT: I guess I did change plugs a few times, but I did use the original plugs until around 100k.

mzr0818 08-28-2012 06:29 AM

92k and counting. modded since 14k, fully bolted power mods since 50k.

Thapianoman4 08-28-2012 11:13 AM

Way past 100K, Still Kickin' ASS!

I just 127,000 miles. First engine. Original motor mounts. This car has been such a trooper.
I'm just about to do a major power steering rebuild after it overheated and nuked the pump, which locked up and melted down the reservoir, too. Other than that, and a little tapping that sounds a lot like valve-tap from some accidental over-revs by me and a friend or two, I haven't had any major issues.

What more could I ask for? Beautiful performance, great gas mileage, and amazing reliability. Besides a few bugs here and there, Mazda really hit the nail on the head with my Speed 6.

rguzman56 08-28-2012 11:33 AM

Wow....thread resurrection!!! My 07's @ 78k, all original parts 'cept Injen CAI, Pulstar Plugs and new tires. Had plenty of warranty work though... Tranny mounts, VVT & front control arms and end links.

div2 08-28-2012 02:32 PM

107,000 miles; MSCAI is my only mod. I have replaced:
LF strut(warranty)
Turbo(warranty)
VVT(warranty)
EGR valve
Front pads/rotors
Rear shocks

redneck4Christ 09-09-2012 02:56 PM

2007 MS3, 93k miles. original engine, although I have noticed VVT noise, motor mount noise, and strut noise.
Only mods are Hawk HPS pads in front, drilled more inlet holes in the OEM air box, disconnect the steering wheel angle sensor, and a couple of sets of tires.
I bought this Mazda based on getting 280k out of my old (non-turbo) 626. Guess I cannot expect the same from this one, huh? :(

-----------
Since original post, replaced rear motor mount with JBR RMM and ordered SURE front sway bar bushings.
On Dec 3, 2012 I hit 100k miles.
Still have original spark plugs too. Probably wouldn't hurt to change them.
Around 60k, I started using Amsoil, 25k per oil change.

86500 08 MS3, 3rd set tires, new Koni sport, front bump stops, front O2 sensor, new HPS pads, ABS Module($1770), front SB bushings, driver side motor mount (lots of wheel hop first time DR ), 3 cold air intake systems due to bad MM,Looks like a bad MAP or MAF sensor (just happened, trying to diagnose, P0098), 3 alignments, EGR cleaning, coolant changed, lot of synthetic oil changes, 1 Tranny change (Motorcraft), other than that just great driving! Average just over 25 MPG for the duration, still does 155 and still runs in Mid 13"s with MSCAI and MSCBE! My wife thinks it's a Lemon!

Grocery_Getter 09-21-2012 06:54 PM

I have an 08 ms3 at almost 95k miles. factory replaced turbo at around 70k miles. running intake and cbe, with an ap. Im running 19.6 lbs of boost . Runs strong, no knocking, smoking, or anything odd. Loving it.. Still want to downpipe, but still on the fence, should i get a oil feed line restrictor, and then get the downpipe?. ive seen them for 20 bucks.

Benny71 09-21-2012 09:46 PM

08' speed3 I just turned 109K miles all stock except Sure SRI. Runs great. Recently cleaned my EGR valve & tube. Penzoil Platinum every 5K miles.

06 ms6, i think i'm @ like 90k, original motor and clutch. only problem i have had w/ my car was a broken seal on the rear diff @ like 65K, and the sensor for the smart key went out.

pintark 09-21-2012 10:03 PM

135K miles on 2006 Mazdaspeed 6. Original engine, just had clutch replaced this week. Besides that no major problems. Still pulls strong.

Your wife sounds like those, women that think cars never need anything not even oil changes. I have a MS6 with 98000 still on stock turbo and vvt, just got a new clutch and pp 2000 miles ago, avg 21 mpg city and 30 mpg hwy being easy on it.

As long as you do your regular maintenance, up keep on your car and take care of it I don't see any why any car shouldn't last for a long time or many many miles :) A little off topic, but I know a guy with a Evo 8 that is getting ready to push 300k miles in the next month or so and he is not stock, but takes really good care of his car. Car looks like it has less than 50k on it by its condition! Keep on driving guys ;)

Thanks,
Dallin

Did you ever have a leak or see anti freeze on the block with the hood up?

Just rolled over 130,000km's so thats in the 80,000 miles range.

For some reason, I'm expecting something catastrophic soon.

no haven't seen anything like that but i did notice my freaking reservoir is showing some hairline cracks on the edges again which is bugging the crap out of me. looking into aluminum one, here is how my engine looks like now.

117k miles as of today.

Replaced:
Two driver side mounts - first one under the recall, and later the replacement filed. Bolt backed out.
Front rotors and pads
VVT actuator - warranty
Power steering rack - warranty for a clicking sound
All four shocks
Serpentine belt, belt tensioner (twice) and idler pulley
Wipers
Countless number of tires
Brake/clutch fluid flush (once), power steering fluid flush (once), coolant flush (once), tranny fluid flush (twice) etc.
MS3 CAI - airfilter (once)
EGR - cleaned twice

Had turbo smoking issues about 3 yrs ago. Happened a couple of times. But resolved on its own - haven't had any issue since. Currently alternating between 10W30 or 10W40 Rotella (usually). But sometimes Quakie or Pennzoil - depending on whatever is cheaper. But I stick to synthy oils mostly, unless I am topping off.

Cant really think of anything else. BTW my timing chain/tensioner might be on their way out. Have been having a start-up rattle for about an year now, last a second or two on cold start-up. Can feel the chain slop through the oil fill hole. Two weeks ago once while starting - it fired up and shut off immediately. Had to crank again for a full 10-15 seconds to start it back up. Normally it starts in a split second. And rough idle a couple of times - could be bad gas. But could also be bad timing due to loose chain.

Overall been a very reliable and solid car for me.

Ren.

How is 'original engine' defined? Stock block in tact, despite a #3 rod that got a little bent out of shape @26psi (I told the bitch to get out of the oven, but thankfully, she ignored my ass)... 42,500 on my MS6.

How is your oil's fuel dilution though?

156,000 and still going. Eats about 1/2 quart of oil every 5,000miles. Mobil 1 and spin on truck filter (B2300 IIRC). I drive a LOT of highway miles, so keep that in mind. Oh, and 2007 MS3.

I have Blackstone Labs perform a UOA at every oil change. At 69,000 miles I switched from a 5,000 mile
OCI to a 7,500 mile OCI. In the five subsequent UOAs the fuel dilution was measured at below 0.5% three times and as a "trace" two times.

30,480 2008 ms3 no smoke

97,500 '07 MS3

Original Turbo (light smoke at start, none at idle)
Original Clutch
Replaced all motor mounts
Replaced brakes/rotors
CAI and Hypertech tune only

So far so good, but she's got some things that need work: The front swaybar bushings are shot and I need to schedule getting it done. She needs new struts up front, I'll probably do all. I have an exhaust leak somewhere to track down, just enough to be loud and annoying but not constant.

75,xxx 09 MS3

-OEM struts blown at ~35k, replaced with koni yellows which are also now blown lol
-left front axle went at ~50k, replaced with OEM
-stock turbo went at about 70k, replaced with gtx3071r
-windshield washer motor went at about 65k, yet to replace lmao

reasons:
-the roads are horrible in SW PA and i drive like an asshole haha
-left axle/cv joint is the only one i think i can say just failed
-turbo was maxed for a long time, was waiting for it to fail
-windshield washer motor was fucked up by mazda doing the ground wire recall and i'm in the process of fighting them to pay for a new one.

think that's everything so far...not too bad really, to me at least haha
