No, swapped it out for a BNRS3 at 188,000, though the original never smoked or caused trouble. I remember thinking I was crazy - the added hp would surely break my tired old engine. She isn't acting either tired or old at this point, other than using a quart about every 3500 miles.

Hey speaking of cleaner. What's a good cleaner to use that's not harming

Stuff I used was an AC Delco product. About $20 for a bottle. I will see if I can find a photo of the bottle.

Oops - quoted the wrong post - my bad.

165,xxx original motor & turbo

spatton 11-14-2016 08:24 AM

2012 with 165,000. Burns no oil at all. Most highway driving. In mexico, where speed limits are mere suggestions.

rpetrenko 11-14-2016 12:27 PM

2006, i have 115k

corbin09 11-14-2016 02:01 PM

I have a 07 that just ticked 92k today. Its had a GTX3071 at around 20lbs for about 12k miles. Doesnt leak or burn any oil, just tires. Ill be doing a rear motor mount and strut mounts soon.

161K miles on the original engine and turbo

Frequentflyer 12-03-2016 07:21 PM

Over 188k on my '08. Fully bolted with a Stage 3 tune since about 40k. Have run Rotella T6 since first oil change. Uses some oil, but nothing out of the ordinary and it doesn't smoke. Only things I've had to do to the engine was replace the thermostat a few years ago. Other than that, I replaced the AC compressor last summer. Everything else has been common wear items like tires and brakes.

Oh yeah and I ran it at ATCO last spring and managed a 13.9 @ 108 with bald Nitto 555's and some race gas. Overall, this is probably the best car I've ever owned (out of two MX-5's <one supercharged>, an S2000, and a RSX Type-S).

Hit 213,000 on the ride home today. Turbo started smoking about 5,000 miles ago, using about 1 qt of synthetic every 3-4 tanks of gas. Installed the oil restriction bolt today. Time will tell how much longer she has in her, will swap to 5W-40 next oil change (this week).

Seriously contemplating buying a MS6 with 170k miles. Stock besides an intake. Owner says it runs awesome, even had him check timing chain tension right after shutting car off and it had 0 play.

Buying this would go against my gut, but what the hell. Why not. I want to save it.

Do it man, there are guys here at almost 300k miles on the stock engine with good compression figures. Even if the compression is bad because it wasn't maintained properly, you can just pull the engine, do a forged rebuild and drop it back it back in and mod it for a 600+ WHP build!

Leila 12-21-2016 07:09 AM

Just over 203k on mine, original engine but upgraded intercooler, piping, intake, etc. She's starting to burn some oil though, I'm adding about a quart a week.

I'm planning to build a new engine with an upgraded turbo and add the downpipe I've been sitting on forever.

07 MS3. Corksport SRI & TIP, CP-e DP, CP-e RMM, HPFP internals, Koni FSD suspension. Just hit 114,000.

Elitesweets 02-26-2017 07:55 AM

166,5xx | 2007 Speed3 GT w/ Corksport SRI-TIP, Autotech HPFP, Cobb DP & Borla Catback, AP V2 w/ OTS Stage 2+ (need a protune), Bilstein rear struts/Koni FSD's front stock springs, Corksport brake pads

Makes a lot of creaky noises, and the turbo drinks a tremendous amount of oil, but my motor has almost perfect compression (177 was my lowest on cylinder 3).

Have you posted major maintenance performed to get to that mileage anywhere else in the forums?

I have 73,xxx on a stock Gen 2 (only AFM intake) and would like to know when the biggest maintenance costs will be expected.

Is there anything that you highly recommend at or before 100k like timing chain?

Thanks

There hasn't been a lot of major maintenance, but I have dealt with a few problems. My tranny was actually replaced under warranty at 43k - needle bearing cage had disintegrated, apparently due to a flaw in the metal. At around 110k, my AC compressor seized, causing a lot of damage - replaced the alternator at that point. Definitely do the VVT and timing chain - about to do mine again. I am on original wheel bearings, axels, CV shaft/boots. Replaced the sway bar bushings at 120k and again at 220k - this time with upgraded ones. Just replaced my original camber arms.

I did also have the dealership dontheir top-end cleaning procedure at 125k, which made a huge difference in responsiveness.

What's this procedure?

Probably a combination of intake valves and fuel injectors. My Mazda dealership uses a walnut media for the valves and a sea foam type for the injectors.

Not sure what exactly they did, but it was some reverse pressure thing. Cost about a hundred bucks; was well worth it.

I used a bottle of the AC Delco Top End Cleaner back about 40,000 miles ago - that helped too.

Another trick that helps is to occasionally put half a quart of automatic transmission fluid in your engine oil about 500 miles before an oil change. Cleans up a lot of stuff.

Frequentflyer 08-03-2017 03:38 PM

197k. Original everything as far as the engine goes.

I've heard some say half in fuel tank/half in oil .... seems so wrong doing it

Hey:

New to the forums (and Mazdas for that matter) but recently picked up a 2010. Totally stock and should hit 105k miles tomorrow. I commute a lot and so far it is a good car that gets decent mileage and still fun to drive. Hope it goes another 100-200k without much trouble (my old car had 222k and no issues at all).

I am also looking to do a few performance, mileage, and reliability mods if anyone has any suggestions...

For the fuel injectors, Lucas oil fuel system cleaners. There's three sizes of bottles available, the middle sized blue bottle is probably your best option. Intake valves are obviously more involved.

Zessen 11-25-2017 01:29 AM

2011 Nearing 200k original parts and turbo except a TBE Exhaust, HPFP and Intake. Thinking of throwing in a BNRS4 and maybe Meth Inject. My DD putting about 700-800 Miles a week for work :c
