My MS6 has been sitting in my garage for the past 2 years. The motor needs replacing or a rebuild.
How's this Speed Solutions? Where are they? I'm not sure which direction to go in.

They are in Arkansas, you can find them on Facebook. They were highly recommended. Just getting started on my build, so will be happy to share my experience as it develops.

Thanks. My wife has been gracious enough to let me keep it in the garage so far. I'm seriously considering resurrecting it to be my autocross/track car. If I do it, I'll build it out to max out the STU or ESP classes. If I change the turbo, I'll bump up to Street Modified class.

That is awesome! Anything specific wrong or is it just tired and worn out? Still on the original trans? How many clutches has it had?

Tired and worn out. Looks like intake valves are the worst. Was still running without missing, but was using about a quart every 2,500 or 3,000 miles. Compression numbers were down and uneven, a couple cylinders below 115.

My trans was replaced under warranty at 43k, but this second one is still fine. Replaced clutch along with trans at 43k, then again at 195k. This third clutch is not slipping, but I will at least replace if not upgrade, since I will get the new billet wheel while getting my BNR S3v2 refreshed, and that adds another chunk of power.

A fair mix, really. I drive 40+ miles each way for work. For the out-of-town portion, I commonly take back roads (thus the handle) where my driving is not what one might consider sedate.

Cool. I am about 45 miles each way for work. I would be happy with the results you have had so far.

Some thought I was crazy, and I wondered myself, when I threw a BNRS3 plus E30 plus mods at it at 188,000 miles. So glad I did.

I drove this thing off the showroom floor without a test drive. It has been great fun for 11 years - and now I can’t wait for the rebuild!

Yeah I think it is a good commuter--a little peppy/fun to drive, and gets good gas mileage (if driven sanely)...

I bought a 2007 MS3 GT in Black Mica brand new, but the bank that did the loan went under during the financial collapse, so the loan wound up in the hands of Santander, which was a complete fucking nightmare. They changed my rates, told me I was missing payments, and it was a fiasco. I told them to take the car and shove it up their asses. I felt like I gave up a piece of my soul that day. So, in 2013, I wandered onto a Mazda lot and found a 2013 LSM Speed 3 and jumped on it. It has been such an amazing car and problem free for 5 years aside from problems I created through modding. The only real complaint I've had since day one is the rate at which this thing absolutely murders tires and the cost of them. For the first year or two, there were only like 2 options for tires, both unidirectional and outrageously expensive. Luckily, now there's a plethora of options and prices have come down.

I’ve been running Federals for a while, getting them cheap through jet.com. They are a pretty decent option.

Awesome but pricey. So I buy cheap tires. To each his own.

I have gone cheap on a number of details - gutted down pipe, OEM clutch so far, etc. Been very content with my results.

Enjoy that 2013!

A pipe is a pipe and the stock clutch is fine up to 400 crank HP. So, you’re fine on both accounts lol

Are you talking about rear camber wear? There are adjustable arms to solve that problem. Other than that I am not aware of any tire wear issues on these cars...

You’re responding in present tense when my post was clearly past tense. When these cars first came out there was literally only like 2 options in our size and both had terrible tread life. I had to replace tires every 20,000 Miles and they were like $800-1200 a set for tires. We’ve since had a lot of options added, and some last 40-50k Miles if you drive like a granny.

ok, I'l play.

Just roled over to 54k miles on a 2010 Genpu.

K04 has started belching white smoke at idle, restictor bolt has helped a bit .
Just waiting to puchase the AP so that I can raise the idle and get a freaktune.

Car not using any oil though on Shell Helix 10w-40 dino oil.
Just getting changed out regulary... will probably use Shell Ultimate synthetic 5w-40 next.

Oh yeah, since this thread is a mileage thread:

2008 MS3 GT melted valve at 203,000, used block for built motor to swap into my 2013 MS3, which had a perfectly healthy engine at 93,000.

Awesome. I had wanted to build from scratch, but my mechanic friends talked me out of it. Having mine built by Speed Solutions.

How were your valves when you did the build?

All the valves had to be replaced because the previous owner had them done by “experts” at a shop who did a shitty job. The valves were lapped and seats done by hand and it was all uneven. I had to get the head machined, seats recut, and just swapped in a Supertech valve train with new upgraded springs. Otherwise they were fine. We suspect the only reason the one exhaust valve melted was detonation. The entire rest of the block literally had ZERO wear. OEM bearings were blemish free and still had grooves like they were brand new. Bores still had factory hone marks, crank pins and journals were all dead on with no wear. These engines are fucking strong.

Interesting. I am waiting to hear what my engine looks like when my builder tears into it - it’s on its way there now.

That’s awesome.

This is a very strong engine, durable if cared for properly. Last week, the guy building my engine noted virtually no wear on the crank, rings, or cams at 270,000+ miles. But three of my injector seals were blown, and my valve guides were in poor condition. I could have gotten by very nicely with a head rebuild and new seals.

Somewhere in the Top10 Most Durable Blocks I believe. I have no idea what shape my block is in but I imagine with my valves never being cleaned or the injectors only having the seals replaced that things could be slightly amiss. At the same time, it just keeps going.

Crazy thing with mine, everything was shiny like new. My mechanic friend taught me a great trick a few years ago every 15,000 miles or so, add a half quart of ATF about 500 miles before an oil change. The detergents clean everything up.

2008 with 150,000 of petal to the metal miles. Daily Driver. Salvage title due to hail damage. She sees triple digit speeds about once a week.

Pushing 300 hp and still a thrill to drive. Original turbo, engine, transmission, clutch (on its last leg).

She is smoking like a diesel coal roller right now tho. I think i may have some clogged up rings on me pistons. Planning on digging into the issue this weekend. Compression test and piston soak are on my agenda.
