Default Why no "ram air" intake?

Wh not move the cai or sri up top where the hood can duct in cool, pressurized air?

or at least re-rout the duct fro the hood onto the intake?

I've never seen/heard this done.

Thought about it when I had a CAI setup, sits right behind the driver's side fog. Remove fog and bam but didn't like the no fog look.

Cowl induction would be pretty decent for our cars, the problem is having a bunch of shit in the way. At some point, I intend on attempting this myself but there are several hurdles to overcome and the benefit it gives may not really even be worth the effort.

I want my shit like on a subaru- air through hole in hood, and down into cylinders. This hose running around the engine bay to move air around makes no sense to me. With the IC up front, down under, how much space does that free up between the top of the block and the hood? Gotta be lotsa room.

When I get a second car again, my MS3's going on the chopping block man.

(fyi, and off topic... got my #2 res and muff removed today- this is a forking excellent thing to do. Sounds amazing)

move fog to center? Or even leave air behind fog, and cut out around it?

This guy would've been ridiculed by now if this was the MSF of 6 months ago but I digress...

Anyone of note running a bigger turbo has SRI. It's perfect for the engine, easier routing of intercooler piping, good on spaced alotted etc. There's no need for a 'ram air' in this car

What the hell is a fuck stick anyway? Is it related to fuck face?

Maybe one goes inside the other... Like a fill nipple.

fuck faces are completely different.

try a position other than missionary and you'll quickly understand what it is to have a fuckstick shoved into it's fuckface. twice.

Seems to me that with a small change, that Ram Air system could be okay. The small change being to convert it to a blow through arrangement. You'd have a nice plentiful supply of cool outside air going straight into the turbo through a decent sized filter. Turbulence from the intake would be a non-issue because the sensor would be after the intercooler. There's a couple of nice long straight runs of tubing the sensor housing could be placed in. Surely one of them is mounted post intercooler.

Meth is far cheaper in comparison to the negligible gains a ram air intake would provide.

If you don't understand that, at least understand this little factoid:

There is no such thing as "ram air" on a forced induction car. Any amount of increased cylinder pressure produced by "ramming air" into them is completely negated and surpassed by the boost a turbo/supercharger makes.

Oooooooh I get it now.
The intake air on a Subaru hit the the turbo and intercooler AFTER the cylinders.

I don't consider this a ram air system. I just consider it an alternate location for a cold air intake that incorporates an FMIC.
I considered the water issue, but I hope like hell Corksport took rain into account during the design phase. Be pretty pathetic if you had to park under an overpass like a motorcycle if you got caught in a downpour.

True. I only pull over if I get caught in a cold rain or heavy traffic. Lots of cars and poor visibility are a really bad combination...

True ram air is intended to raise intake air pressure at high track speeds. This is different than cold air intake which pulls ambient air from whatever source - scoop, fender well, etc.

True ram air only makes enough increased air pressure to benefit cars once speed gets above 100 mph. You see this mostly on normlly aspirated Pro Stock drag cars. I doubt it would provide any benefit on a forced induction application.

This has been bugging me enough that I finally contacted Corksport to ask. I was right. They did consider water. During testing, they drove the thing through a car wash. Plus they are located in Washington State, they get a little rain there, no? Their test car is somebody's daily driver for the last couple of years with no water related issues.

@crtguns, you have any idea how a turbo system works yet, or an engine in general for that matter?

RAM-Air intakes on a turbo can effectively shift the pressure ratio and potentially pick up some efficiency. This is part of the reason why a lot of drag only cars have turbo inlets directly exposed to the air stream and pointing with the inlet forward.

As rite as you are, the op thinks the intake air goes directly into the cylinders, bypassing the turbo completely. Like a subaru.
