Why upgrade BOV?
 

Just trying to get to know my car, it's potential, and its limitations better. I installed a Fujita F5 aluminum CAI a few weeks ago, and now I get to hear all the great turbo and blow-off sounds. I may be answering my own question here, but it seems like it starts blowing off air before I let off the throttle. Is that an issue with stock BOVs? Otherwise, why replace the BOV? Also, I don't think my CAI made a real appreciable difference in performance. Do I need to get a tune for it to make any difference? I tried disconnecting the battery so the ECU parameters would reset, but all that seemed to do was fry my CD changer (but that's a whole other issue).

An yes the stock bov can leak exceeding stock boost pressure. thats why we upgrade. -__- an if u didnt feel a performance change from an intake. Then u musta bought a mazda3 cas mine gains were extensive. No u dnt need a tune. But u will need a air straightener for cai systems. due to the swirl effect that it cause's.

I would highly recommend getting and installing a BOV. It usually adds about 20 hp and makes your car run better. Actually if you want to save some money I would recommend just taking the OEM part off of your car and connecting the tubes together. This will greatly improve not only your hp but your mileage as well.

If you are going for more turbo sound I would recommend even further leaving the OEM bov unconnected to anything and just letting all the air go into the atmosphere. The best bov on the market can be found at the below link:

If you hear it before you're off the throttle, then you probably have a leaker. This is a common subject and I think there may be a sticky about it. Search around.

This has been covered many times. The air "blowing off" before you let off the throttle is not an issue if you are not going WOT. You don't need to replace your stock bpv unless it is actually leaking however it doesn't hurt to replace it if you just want to. If you do replace it, make sure you get a bypass valve that recirculates if you want the car to run right.

A tune will make a big difference in the way the car drives. A noticeable increase in power plus no more drop off in power after 5500rpms. I suggest the Cobb AP but I'm biased cause thats what I use.

I think what's going on is it's a piece of shit and I'm gonna replace it soon. I've had the car just over a month and it's jammed up twice. unacceptable.

I've had this happen to me too. After installing my CS SRI+TIP, I started hearing weird sounds when going into mild throttle or going into WOT. I figured it was prob because of a leaky stock BPV so I decided to get my friend to help me out with it. What I did was I had him sit in my car and rev (while in neutral), and I was in front of my car with the hood opened trying to listen/feel for any sounds/air leaks. I put my face close to the BPV as he rev'd and then one of the hoses came loose and hit me in the eye! I had to run back into the house and my mom happened to see me run in and asked me what was wrong, so I told her that a hose hit me in the eye and my mom got scared, she said, "you're moving with your aunt and uncle in Bel-Air". I whistled for a cab and when it came near the license plate said 'fresh' and had a dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare. But I thought naw forget it, yo home to...
