Yet another breaking rear motor mount+ FAIL

I mentioned this elsewhere, but thought it warranted its own thread.

I happened to re-inspect my stocker rear motor mount after sticking Hotchkis ASB's in, and stashing away all the factory stuff.

What I found was 2 cracks in the rubber of the stock mount. Both cracks traveled >50% of the length of the rubber, and were ~ perpendicular to each other.

For all of you looking to do bolt-on's, I would strongly advise getting at least a rear mount, and the driver's side trans mount would also be a brilliant idea.

Figure that the rear mount can be done when you do antisway bars, and the driver's side trans mount can be done when you do your CAI/SRI + turbo inlet upgrade, that way you already have access to the factory mounts.

JMHO

Thanks for the heads up. Good thing I am going to be replacing my rear mount soon....like in a couple of weeks.

I do have my stocker (holes) filled with poly....but I haven't checked it since I put it on.

Yeah, way worth it. The car vibes a bit more, but the better shifts and reduced engine rocking at launch is worth it.

Just get the car up in the RPM's a bit when shifting, say around 3k, so the next gear's RPM's are around 2k. The vibes are most intense from idle to 2000.

I know exactly how it is. I had a TRZ dogbone. It drove so much better, but I got MORE wheelhop with it.

We have both mounts listed on our site, the rear mount is a little more then most are willing to handle but its the only "solid" solution on the market.

Laloosh 12-19-2008 11:11 AM

its not the only solid solution out there...there are solid dogbone mounts that are more then just pressed in metal bushings

I could get you a combo price for all those if your interested to purchase all at once.

TRU-BOOST 12-24-2008 03:29 AM

PG has a combo deal going on right now for the TRZ lower and tranny mounts. That is all you will ever need. The passengee side mount does not need replacing, in fact i advise against it. The car needs SOME rubber to absorb the vibration/resonance. With the 2 trz mounts on my car it is solid as a rock!

Do MS6's have the same issues with mounts as MS3's ??? I would think not seeing as how our cars do not jump and skip down the street like the 3's and the fwd.. I have also heard that we have better mounts in the first place.... anyone know??? :thinkerg:

TRU-BOOST 12-24-2008 05:28 AM

I know the ms6 guys say that upgraded mounts do benefit the cars solidity and give much improved shifting. I have never heard of a ms6 have its engine fall out though. The cars do use different mounts, that i know. I think awr might be the only place making upgrades for the 6's. Unlike the ms3 mounts they make, they seem very good.

Do aftermarket mounts prevent the engine from falling out?

Blackspeed 01-28-2010 02:22 PM

YES

Is it more for 07 08 MS3s or would 08.5+ and 09 MS3s need them too? I heard they were upgraded

nyghtryder 02-13-2010 05:30 PM

they arent any better mines just about done, its an 09 with 11k. trz mount is in the mail.

you must have picked the oldest thread to revive. haha

I've broken 2 stock RMM, 1 passenger side mount and 1 driver side mount and bracket.

Other issues: Entire transmission rebuilt; RR shock blown; Front axle broke.

Fuck this car.

Join the club, trans rebuilt, now it needs another, broke drivers and passenger motor mounts, rear shocks blown, smoking

FUCK THIS FUCKING CAR

I think if you are going to post negativity up like this you need to post how and what kind of driving you do. I got 38k on my 08 and drive it pretty hard everyday and don't have these issues.

After reading posts like these, I got to wonder if a lot of people with these MS3s can't drive OR they are treating these cars really badly. :eek13:

Remember, Evos and STis break too...:slap:(since everyone here are very impartial to these cars)

nyghtryder 02-16-2010 03:31 PM

what happened to your guys trans? im having issues on my 09 with 11k. 3rd is grinding even when its in gear if i let off the clutch too fast.
