Default Zoom Zoom Boom again?!? WTF!

I think I just blew my 2nd engine a little while ago. This time the smoke smelled sweet though, like antifreeze. Also there isn't lots of oil everywhere, and when I unscrewed the oil cap it reeks of fuel. In any case I am pretty well fucked.

Cruising. I did give it a little gas, but maybe half throttle. Maybe a little more, but not WOT.

6th...at around 80 LOL. I figured it would be safe because my RPM's weren't too low and it wasn't WOT. I haven't been seeing much knock on my 50/50 e85 tune, partial or otherwise. But I will check when I get home. I often log my trips to work and datalogged just last night.

Seems you gen 1's get a lot of part throttle kr, anyone ever take a log of this to see why?

Only part throttle KR I've seen is like 0.50* for a blip.

I get assloads of pt kr in high gears cruising on the highway. Mostly on tip in.
No wot kr though.

Never gotten it it a log but I easily could if you wanted to see.

Yeah, I get a lot of KR on the highway, when cruising in 6th. If I drop to 5th, it goes away.

shitty man, that sucks. sorry to hear it. i'm very curious to see what this turns out to be.

if the engine was blown, wouldn't the oil be outside of the engine? maybe it was just the headgasket, like has been suggested..

Well there is oil outside the engine. Just not as much as last time. Last time it sprayed everywhere, even under the car and onto the hatch. I mean everything was covered. This isn't as spectacular, I feel a little let down. There's some under the car, I could see it when I pushed it backwards to see if it was leaking. Maybe a couple splashes here and there.

Basically modding without knowledge or common sense. I had a wonderful device known as a Standback, and I just wanted more boost. Sooooooo.....I increased the boost. I already had my gutted downpipe and testpipe; I figured surely this fine turbocharger can give me 22psi. :-)

Yeah thats my understanding as well.

Still, its pretty disconcerting none the less. I have a hard time convincing myself that 7.1 kr is "just something that happens" lol.

Thats what I am starting to think also, as it seems most of these engines are blowing during this.

Considering the gen 2 does not show part throttle KR, this might be worth looking into.

so glad i am not the only one getting pt knock. i get so freaking paranoid. it does seem to be on tip in, usually only 5th and 6th gear. i thought it was partly due to bad gas, stock heat range plugs. i have other plugs i wanted to put in today to see if it goes away. and i got different gas, plus i am gonna be running some e85 soon. hopefully that gets rid of it.

@Lex has experimented with changing plugs and found it doesn't make a significant difference in KR. I'd try the gas first. I'm going to do that too. I think I'll also install my HALOs and TIGs and see if that helps.

When I was using the Cobb ots tunes, I was seeing 7kr just cruising around. Now that I have a real tune, I never see knock higher than .3kr and that's at wot and is rare to even see that.

well i have them to install anyway as i will be upping boost and start tuning as soon as this downpipe goes in this weekend. im gonna be doing a pump 93 tune and a 93/e85 mix tune. i also have an intake mani tig to install, not sure how much it will help. i just find it odd that low gears have maybe .3 knock but higher gears it comes back with a vengance.

Yeah, I agree. Nothing's as disconcerting as cruising along at 80MPH and seeing 5-6 degrees of KR out of nowhere. Makes a one-hour trip to Denver more stressful than it should be.

This is my 50/50 summer mix of e85 map btw. No WOT knock to speak of.

Yep, the only real WOT KR I get is false knock, from noisy shit in my engine bay.

7.1! Holy Fuckleberries!! the most I've ever seen on my car is like a 1.5. Anyway, PT knock on our cars happens because in closed loop cruising on the highway, the car advances the timing until it hears knock, then backs it off just a tad to increase fuel economy. Also, I get some PT knock in my genpu (only like .3-.4 shit), but I just attribute it to engine noise that the car thinks is knock.
