Very very stiff pedal, and a horrible shuddering/pulsating when trying to roll slowly (pull in my driveway/back out of a parking space). When it exhibited this shuddering my motor was literally shaking like crazy in my bay. I bought a jbr mount to hold the motor in more firmly. Now I had a vibrating car, that still had a pos clutch. Lol. There was no in between. It was either clutch in, or clutch out and hold on. Lol. Call me a sissy, but I couldn't stand the f'in thing. Only had it in for 7k.

I was glad to get rid of the OEM clutch feel... but i hear you on the shuddering, especially on reverse... peoeple had better not be behind me when i release it in reverse.

only had mine for a thousand or so. hopefully will have for 100k more!!!

ugh if you guys can come up with good Research/Testing, I'll paypal you like 50 bucks.

I dont want some shitty shuddering. I want a clutch that feels CLOSE to stock and can withstand around 500 TQ. That's it. I'm not asking for anything else. Maybe some DECENT longevity too. Not saying it should do 100,000 miles, but i dont want 20k either.
Stock clutch would be lasting me longer but i'm maxing out what it can hold.

so 06Speed6 or Alpha or whoever is doing the clutch testing, plz post your detailed reviews and/or video of how it's running.

I'm starting to get desperate and i'd like to do replace soon as my clutch is feeling a little weaker in daily driving... though it could be my imagination.

I'm interested in this. I'm at about 75k and keeping the replacement in the back of my mind because it will have to be done soon.

After talking with John from Southbend and hearing what his testers were saying, I'm 100% confident that these kits will be what we've all been waiting for.

They're offering serveral stages for up to 850 AWTQ and driveability/smooth/quiet operation was their first priority.

I'll be getting mine installed when the new motor goes in, which should be in about 6-8 weeks. (Sorry it's not sooner as the clutch will be available far before then)

Enjoying my 6-Puck Streetlight ACT quite a bit these days.

After tweaking the throttle tables a bit, it's quite enjoyable to drive. I did have some bad shuttering when I first installed but that's all gone away from the tweaks and/or driving style adjustments. You just get drive the car differently, is all.

Granted, the pedal is quite a bit stiffer than OEM, as expected, but I want to say it's gotten easier over the last 2,000 miles. (Or my leg has gotten stronger...either way, NBD)

The way I see it, if you want to hold more TQ, something has gotta give. In this case, I'm expecting longevity to be sacrificed. If I can get 20-25K out of this clutch, I'll be a happy camper.

The way I see it, if you want to hold more TQ, something has gotta give. In this case, I'm expecting longevity to be sacrificed. If I can get 20-25K out of this clutch, I'll be a happy camper.
You should check out my build thread for pics of my ACT 6-puck Streetlite setup after only 3K miles. I still need to measure runout, though.

So has anyone figured out where cp-e is sourcing there clutches from. Or has anyone tried them. I know they are way over priced just curious as to what they are made of

Cpe is probably a white box version of the CM kit.

The Timken tob came in today and it is virtually identical to the oem bearing. The plastic center piece is different, the outer metal is different. The seal setup appears to be the same.

I'm subbed to this thread but the alternate for me would be the Spec 3+ self ratcheting w/oem flywheel (470 lbs tq). I'm looking to do my clutch in august sometime.

I've been pretty happy with my spec 3+/stock resurfaced flywheel combo. much better than the act street clutch, although, the people who installed that most likely fucked up the install.

The cp-e is most definitely the clutch masters kit.
Just like their pistons are weisco.
There's no doubt.
Until www.cp-e.com comes in here and says they aren't, they are.

I run the ACT 6puck, it is a grabby motherfucker for sure, but it is ceramic, lighter fw helps cut down rotattional mass and general consensus is anywhere between 20-30k is the life expectancy.

Side note I know a guy running the same clutch set and had a tension arm come apart rolling around freely inside the pressure plate housing, ACT replaced everything.

I was talking with Eric and he drags his MS3 with slicks on a regular basis with a ACT full face setup at @400whp and he said he hasn't had any problem with hooking up.

I don't see much more the 450-480ish ftlb capacity for a single disc setup, anything above that may require a multiple disc set up.

Would there be any way to modify the stock clutch to handle for power. My goals are someday to make 400 + but I do not want to replace my clutch every 20k

Spec makes full face that will hold 400 ftlbs......btw when looking at clutches you generally are looking at their torque capacity, they will not list whp/bhp.....and how long the clutch last depends upon how you drive, and mainly what kind of driving you do.....congested, stop and go traffic plus a racing cluth is a bad idea.

Repset 10-064 is the OEM Luk clutch disc and pressure plate.
About $200 on ebay.
For the flywheel you can use Findanza aluminum with interchangeable steel plate.
But why change to a single mass with stock clutch? The dual mass FW is actually a very nice piece. If you don't need more clutch you don't need more flywheel.

Why don't you post up your own thread instead of hijacking this one then?

I'm really interested in higher performance clutches.
Raider can you clean up everything up to and including Guthrie's first post?
I keep getting excited to see this thread pop up with new info, but its just crap now.

thx.

I protest this clean up.
I expressed my feelings for the world to know and now it's all gone. Like a pufter fart.

Change the name of the thread to "high performance clutch kits" or "SB clutch kits" then. Otherwise, people might assume you are discussing all clutch kits - including the stock ones. Guess why

Read the first fucking post.

It has nothing to do with south bend.
The title could be, "cocks in the bum bum". Doesn't change the topic.

I am not normally a dick but I believe that I have enough experience posting on this and other forums to name my threads without your help.

This isnt a discussion about "high performance clutch kits" or "SB clutch kits" this is about clutch kits in general. A high performance clutch kit is a 8.5" multi disc racing clutch and we arent talking about those. I am not affiliated with South Bend and I am not familiar with their kits since they dont have one available yet so there isnt much to talk about.

Now keep your useless comments out of my thread.
