It did take me awhile to decide what to do with the car to build it or put stock motor in, along with alot of family things going on and trips to NY, And Im glad that they held onto it for as long as they did.

yes you are correct but maybe my post wasnt clear enough. I said it wont get any creep with it in that location meaning directly off the hotside and not with a 90* bend

Can you give us some details about the new engine? What parts and who built it. Has timing been verified? Has a compression test been done?

Looking at your data logs, it should be making some pretty good power. What fuel are you using? Any meth/eth?

pauter rods and cp pistons/ cobb/ twice/ compression is good 93oct. no meth.

Also, put an EGT gauge on it this time around. You may have something wrong with injection and/or spark timing. You have the only melted valve I've ever seen, lol.




I've gone through and read a bunch of your past posts and I feel there is a LOT of missing information. How the hell did you burn a valve? What did the tune look like, how much power were you running? Spill the beans man, that's the only way we can help you.
Car was tuned by cobb about a week before power in the premotor run 326awhp 316tq. Spark plug tip melted off and took a joyride.

The story doesn't add up. Everything in the log looks good. That much boost and timing should be making some pretty nice power. That leads me to think it is engine related.

I'm just getting relays from Plano on everything but this is what I know:

- 9.5:1 CP Pistons
- Pauter Rods
- Upgraded Eibach valve springs
- Mild porting in the head
- VVT Upgrade

The same engine builder and head work has been done on a few other DISI motors by the same person with good results.

Car's timing has been checked a couple of times

It's my understanding that the car burnt up a valve and ate a spark plug on the factory motor. This is the first time I've ever heard of a DISI doing this as well.

Car sat in Plano for like 3 months before Matt was able to make a decision on what to do with it. However, everyone agrees that the build, once figured out, has also taken too long and everyone is doing everything possible to get this figured out and out of there.

This is the dyno plot of the car pre and post the build with the same turbo setup.



As you can see, more boost is yielding less power and the car is really falling off around 5700 RPM where previously it did not used to.

Needless to say...it's been a tough one.

- Checked Timing
- Checked Cat Converter
- Ran on Dyno with no CBE (remove restriction...no change)
- Replaced coils
- Replaced all injectors (increased power)
- Checked turbo for damage...none

Torque is falling WAY off on the top end with the same boost. Has the seat pressure and open pressure been verified on the valve springs? Has valve clearance been double checked.

Valve float would kill top end power just like you're seeing.

Edit: AFR's are staying pretty steady, though, so maybe not valve float...

Have you checked for exhaust leaks before the primary O2 sensor?

I had a very very similar issue where the data logs indicated that the car should be ripping but it made very little power. It took a very aggressive tune to even eke out 285whp.

Turns out I had a 1" crack in my exhaust mani and my DP wasn't secured properly against the turbine housing. Putting around, the car ran just fine. Under boost, it would break up and fall on its face.

Like you, I also tried swapping injectors and coils but it didn't do anything. Fixing the exhaust leaks brought the car to life.

I see the cat has been "visually" checked, but frankly that don't mean shit. You see how much soot we cough out of these cars, and CPE catted dp's have failed before. Bet that sucker is clogged up. If it's not making the power it should on or off boost, and the logs and everything look good, tells me the engine is probably fine. Bolt up a non-catted downpipe and see what that does.

well at this point once the turbo goes back in with the new hotside, and still has the problem; I'll be getting a catless DP already have my eye on one in Ftworth area that I'll see about getting droped off to cobb

First things first, that isnt a intake valve its an exhaust valve. If the injectors have been swapped and tune is good then the only thing I can think of that could generate that amount of heat is a clogged cat.

If it runs, drive it around for half an hour at night and see if the cat starts glowing.

Matt.. remember when we put your turbo in, we were looking at how rough the bellmouth was inside the Downpipe, I wonder if that lip that was sticking up by the flange ended up breaking apart and getting stuck in the baffles clogging that cat?? I think David remembers seeing that, possibly Jim too.

Replaced catted downpipe with noncatted same problems, valves and springs were pulled for valve float everything is to spec they are gonna try it with shims or some shit other than that ..... Still the same problem. My car just loves to be put on the dyno I guess....

I can't believe no-one has asked HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR CAMS? Breaking a valve like that could have damaged at least 1 lobe on your cam, and an engine trying to heave around an underperforming hole will look ok, but spit out bad numbers. I would honestly suggest doing a power balance test using an IDS enabled scan tool, such as the autel maxidas ds708. Power balance tests can tell you a bunch. (may also be called cylinder contribution)

Breaking a valve like that could have damaged at least 1 lobe on your cam, and an engine trying to heave around an underperforming hole will look ok, but spit out bad numbers. I would honestly suggest doing a power balance test using an IDS enabled scan tool, such as the autel maxidas ds708. Power balance tests can tell you a bunch. (may also be called cylinder contribution)

So they checked the head readjusted lifters and valves, They are removing the blanceshaft... other than that everything to the motor beside the block itself has been checked.
