Default CPE Xcel Air Intake --Cleaning

Just got a 2006 Mazdaspeed6. The previous owner had the CPE Xcel Air Intake installed. While I haven't needed to do any maintenance on the car, I'm wondering if anyone else has this part and how to clean the air filter?

Cleaning the air filter element is the same as cleaning a K&N flter. You need to remove the filter element from the car. I removed the 3 or 4 screws to the plastic wheel well cover so you have access to the filter. Reach up and loosen the band clamp to remove the filter element off the CP-e Xcel tube. Shake off loose debri and spray on cleaner. Let stand for a few minutes. Rinse the filter from the inside out. Don't use high pressure. Let air dry. Then apply oil. Re-install newly oiled filter and put back screws to plastic wheel well.

This should be good for you unless you have an oiless "dry" filter.

I haven't taken it out or looked at it yet. So I'm not sure if it's oil-less.

Speaking of k&N. I had a K&N filter in my previous car, can I use the same cleaning kit for that K&N filter with the CP-E filter? --Should be the same idea as other filter cleaners and oil, but I'm not sure if the CP-E has some proprietary or recommended cleaners.

thanks for the info. I may try to get under the hood this weekend(depending on the weather).

Mine came with a Afe filter. I bought it when CP-e first produced the Xcel. It was blue. I think (and someone can correct me) a dry filter is not colored. I used K&N cleaner and oil for my filter.
