I did put it in the air and let it roll in first gear. Noise seemed to fit with the driveshaft more so than the wheels. I used an automotive stethoscope to listen to the trans housing, and pto, but it was pretty much inconclusive to which was making the noise.

I suppose it could be the PTO on the pass side, since that's the side where the mount broke. But it's odd that the noise is coming from the driver's side. I'll pop both axles out soon and give em a once over.

Good idea man. Thanks.

djuosnteisn I ran into the same issue with my AWR rmm. I propped the jack against an edge at a 45 degree angle, and put a 2x4 in place to push the engine forward as I cranked the jack... lets just say the 2x4 didn't stay in place....

Do you still have the AWR rear mount installed? Do you think it could be contributing to the noise i'm hearing?

I did actually start hearing an odd noise after the install, but it turned out to be my wheel bearings. From what you were saying, your noise is coming from the area I encountered noise as well. If possible, try a listening with a stethoscope; put it to the various suspension components to find the noise. Wheel bearings sound a variety of ways, it could be a culprit...

I did stethoscope, mainly focusing on the trans and t-case, but i did poke around a few things on the hub, and didn't hear any glaring issues. Also spun the wheel by hand and checked for play. None.

I'll dig into the beast tonight and find out exactly wtf is going on. At least i hope i will, lol.

seeing as how you really needed to ratchet the motor forward to get the bolts to line up, i would disconnect the RMM completely and drive around and see what happens. The side mounts and TTFMM are more then enough.

I drove like this for about a month one time because i kept hearing this clicking noise and it diddent happen when i disconnected my RMM so i just left it off. when i eventually put it back on the noise was gone =D

I agree; the AWR mount is apparently under redesign. I spoke to Tony the other day and they have changed part of the mount assembly. Depending on how Dustin had the car up, if only the front was lifted it makes aligning mounts a real pain.

From Tony:
"We are just going to ship the top section to you, which is the revised part. All you need to do is unbolt it from the head and the mount base and install the new part."

I will update once I install it

I have the updated pass mount (which is what tony is talking about there afaik). I haven't heard anything about a redesigned rear motor mount, just the pass.

What tony and I have discussed is the RMM. Not sure what exactly the change may be, but I'll post a pic once I get it

That makes no sense at all, lol. The rear mount is a single piece, no "top section". The pass mount has a top section, and has recently been re-designed.

Either you or tony is confused. Or i'm on a different planet entirely (feels that way more often than not).

I just tried removing the rear motor mount and took a trip around the block during lunch. No dice. Noise still there. The only changed mount now is the PMM. I really don't think it's a mount issue.

Trans is le fooked. Maybe not raw dog butt fooked, but at least titty fooked.

Drained fluid, stuck a magnet like half inch into the drain hole, and pulled out metal stew:

I really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really do not want to pull the trans again.

So i'm not. I'm just gonna flush it with some shit dick walmart fluid a couple times, then give it hell. If it's coming out, it needs to give me a better reason than this. This will probably be my fluid schedule:
shit fluid, drive 1 mile, drain
shit fluid, drive 50 miles, drain
shit fluid, drive 100 miles, drain
shit fluid, drive 300 miles, drain
good fluid, drive several thousand, and back to powa, drain
good fuild, and hope it holds.

or something to those regards.

Also, this is far from the "torque limits of the transmission" imho. This is all due to a failed motor mount. So if anything, i've simply reached the "torque limits of the shitty PMM".

Bummer dude. I do love the line: "you can hear something chewing" ... like a hamster?

So does it still pop out of gear. Since what you're pulling out is magnetic, you might have partially stripped a gear when the mount let go since it saw a good amount of shock.

I have a spare trans, just needs a seal. If this one assplodes, it'll probably receive either gen pu or possibly euro gears.

The euro gears are TALL, and this car will probably always rock a big turbo... so i have to be careful not to completely neuter the off boost torque. Short gears are nice for dd when your turbo doesn't spool til 4300 rpm in 3rd gear.

Lol @ me mentioning dd.... sigh.

After the socket removal, it seems to hold in gear a bit better. I do think i was able to get it to pop out of 3rd by pushing back on it a lil bit. Wasn't "easy"... but wasn't "normal" either.

I bet i gave a few teeth a hair cut when it popped out of gear at 450+ ftlbs and high rpms, hahaha.

But honestly, it goes into each gear great, and comes out just as easy. So i think i'll just rock it. I'm gonna put all my stupid vibrator mounts back on tomorrow night, and fill up with the first dose of walmart shit oil (cough syrup for a sick trans).

noo..

hmm, try the flushes but it may not work. Those could just be metal flakes from the filler/drain plug.. idk.

Why and how would a fill or drain plug produce metal shavings such as that?

So i did a 5 mile cycle, and 100 mile cycle with garbage oil, and then switched back to amsoil good stuff.

Not much more metal drained out with the flushing, so i think it may be as good as it gets for now. It still makes a pretty bad noise at low speeds, but it's not as loud as it was before. We'll see how it does in a few thousand miles, lol. I'll swap the oil again in a like 3k-5k miles, if nothings blown up by then.

I want to get some work done on my 3 now, so i'll just baby the 6 around for now. When the 3 is back up and running, i'll start boosting the 6.

When I tore apart my spare trans friday I noticed that metal flakes had embedded thenselves in various different parts, I wonder if that is what is making the noise in yours.

Won't know for sure until i tear it down completely. I kinda want to say the noise is coming from the diff, since it only happens when both front wheels are spinning the same direction. If you spin one wheel by hand, letting the opposite one spin in the opposite direction, there's no noise.

Just an update....

My trans still kicks me out of gear. Random gears too, 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th once or twice. I tried a 3rd gear pull yesterday, and made it like half way til i was kicked out. I can feel positive indents when shifting into gears, so what exactly could be kicking me out? AFAIK, the sprung balls that fit into the shaft indents are the only thing that "holds" the trans in a gear, and they feel like they're engaging fine. I wonder if they could just be gummed up with metal possibly.

Are they easy to pull out while the trans is on the car? isn't there just a plug you un bolt, and then use a magnet to pull the spring and ball out? Do i have to drain the fluid before doing so?

Car still drives fine, easy in / out with ever gear, just randomly spit out of gears.

Maybe you "clearanced" a bearing or race and you're getting flex in one of the shafts.

Accel typically. Haven't had it pop out on decel yet. It'll almost certainly pop out if i go wot.

Man, that would have to be a hell of a clearance increase, lol. If i can't go wot on this trans, then it's kinda worthless... and the priority of pulling it will be significantly bumped up.

I'm gonna start prepping the other transmission for the swap.

At this point it's just speculative but the end result still sucks

Welp.... that didn't take long:

I lost pretty much every gear on way home yesterday. Took that vid thinking it was kinda funny, and about 30 seconds afterwards, it became very unfunny. Had to literally hold the shifter into first gear, and limp the car home. First gear was the only one that i could really somewhat keep the gears engaged.

Trans comes out tonight / tomorrow. Spare trans gets cleaned up and seal replaced tonight and installed tomorrow.

I'll crack the case open when the trans is out, and exorcise that lil bastard out. I think Pablo has a set of pu gears he may be willing to sell me, so i'll at least be able to get the bad trans back up into working order, and swap it back in down the road.

Will be awesome having a pu geared ms6
