Default Neutral trans noise at idle

I figured out that it is a trans bearing, I have the same bearing out on two different transmissions and both of them made that noise. Ill dig up a part number later this weekend.

Are you referring to the noise that everyone has deemed throw out bearing up to this point? The random chatter?

Yeah, it unloads and loads the input shaft and it makes more noise when its unloaded (clutch not pressed) and at low rpm. At higher rpm it just makes a soild noise that you cant tell from other noises.

I hear it's the Pilot bearing that makes this noise, unless what you're talking about is the same thing.

The part number is A60117206 and it is not the throw out bearing.

Mine made that noise with an ACT, then a Spec with stock flywheel, then spec with Fidenza flywheel, all made the same noise but goes away when you push the clutch pedal down.

@06Speed6

Do you think this bad bearing might also contribute to the issues with notchy shifting that many people are having? Is it part 17-203B on this picture?

If it sounds like a loose bag of marbles, it's normal. Sucks and kind of annoying, makes the car sound broken, but normal.

Yeah that is the bearing, but no it has nothing to do with shifting.

The loose marble sound is a bad bearing, I think it is always a bad bearing and bad bearings are sadly pretty normal for this trans. I think that at least part of it is due to improper bearing loading, the bearings that I have seen are all ball bearings and those bearing types arent designed for thrust loading which I think is what they are getting. I also dont understand the sealed design, there is no reason for those bearings to be sealed.

Any idea what might be causing it then (all gears more or less)? Last time I checked this forum there was no clear answer, just wondering if somone has figured it out?
(sorry for an off topic question).

Notchy shifting could be anything between the shifter to the shift fork, common items are the shift cables and shift forks.

@06Speed6 I assume by passing the clutch switch at start up help reduce thrust bearing failure as it kills that load on the crank?

Edit: Rather, will this help any other bearing described above?

Thrust bearings dont really fail on this engine. I think the trans is thrust loading itself and the bearings are not rated for thrust. I had a thought last night that it could be thrusting the trans shafts towards the tapered roller bearings which handle thrust, but as those wear it might be pulling the ball bearings which ruins them. It needs a slippable roller bearing I think.

Tons of people complain about this issue at my dealer on all mazda models. As per mazda field reps/tech noise is normal. As a speed owner quite annoying

Same weird noise here on my genpu since day 1. But it only occures on my speed if I drove it hard before or when it's very hot outside. Sounds like bag of marbles. It seems like bearing clearance changes when it gets hot, so that the main shaft starts rattling. I'm really scared now to upgrade to a one mass flywheel and aftermarket clutch, since this increases the noise. I hate the MS tranny. It can handle a shitload of torque, but it's crazy loud and shifts very notchy.

Same noise here car shifts fine but I quickly realized I need to be very nice to this stock clutch to make it last. From what I have read its a noise almost everyone gets and its normal. Mine didn't start making this noise till about 16000 miles and I have almost 18000 now. However I am no expert on this car so I would ask one of the senior members if this noise is something that needs to be fixed or is ok.

Has anybody changed the mentioned bearing? Is a adjustment of bearing clearance necessary? I fucking hate this sound! It seems to occure more often now. I have 18k miles now and don't want to swap clutch and flywheel before I solve this issue.
