Default 3/6 intercooler thread completed

ATP:
Front mounted intercooler kit for the Mazdaspeed3 featuring mandrel bent high polished aluminum piping work, Garrett GT high density bar and plate intercooler core capable of supporting over 400HP, multi-layer silicone turbo connectors (color of choice), and stainless T-bolt clamps. Stainless mounting brackets and hardware included. Flanged for HKS BOV (can be changed to another upon request). No cutting is required for installation. Power gains are huge on both stock turbo and upgraded turbo setups. Drastic drop in intake temperature relieves the engine of constant heat soaking condition that robs the Speed of its power. By lowering the peak operating charge temp by over 30 degrees, this intercooler upgrade kit allows the Speed engine to operate at full power freely and consistently without holding back when the engine gets warm. The reduction in charge temp also reduces the changes of engine knock. The Garrett GT core also removes a flow-through bottleneck that is inherent in the factory top-mounted intercooler which hinders peak HP. This FMIC upgrade is one of the simplest ways to increase both HP and reliability on the Speed3 engine. **Note: Optional taller 600HP Garrett intercooler available for an upcharge, but does require cutting of bumper support area to clear.

Price 859.00 - 934.0

Cobb V2
Looking for an effective solution that will eliminate inconsistent power delivery from your MazdaSpeed3? Look no further than the all new COBB Tuning Front Mount Intercooler. The factory top mounted intercooler can easily be over worked and overheated due to its smaller size. In return, the intake air temperatures rise causing a loss in power. Replacing the factory intercooler with the COBB Tuning Front Mount Intercooler will ensure that your engine is receiving the coolest possible air, allowing you to enjoy more power that is also much more consistent!
The v2.0 FMIC for MAZDASPEED3 has been revised to give more clearance for the frame rails, bumper beam and oil lines allowing for easier installation and less modification of your car!

CP-E
The 2010 MazdaSPEED3 has a lot of potential and for those that want to get the most out of the engine, cp-e™ has designed a front mount intercooler (FMIC). The factory top mount intercooler (TMIC) leaves a lot to be desired, its biggest flaw is location. Because it sits on top of the engine, which generates a lot of heat, the TMIC soaks in the hot air especially while the vehicle is idle. All performance enthusiasts know that heat is our enemy.

In order to help fight this battle, cp-e™ set out to design a FMIC that would work well with the factory turbo, while allowing room for future upgrades to larger turbos. Featuring a massive core, measuring out at 24” x 9.5” by 3.25” it has unique cast endtanks with a 2.5” inlet and a 2.75” outlet. The endtanks were cast to allow for efficient airflow through the core. By minimizing restrictions we minimized the pressure drop from endtank to endtank.

In order to fit such a massive core, cp-e™ had to design a bumper replacement to allow for clearance and provide a very rigid mounting structure for the core. This was done out of billet steel components to provide the most strength possible. One of the features that cp-e™ is most proud of is that you can reuse your stock towhook, this feature is designed into the factory bumper so cp-e™ felt it best to design it into our bumper as well. To prevent rust and provide a stealth appearance the bumper bar is powdercoated black. The core is mounted to the bumper with billet aluminum cnc machined and formed brackets.

The FMIC kit features 2.5” pipe from the turbo to the intercooler and 2.75” pipe from the intercooler to the throttle body. The piping is mandrel bent and bead rolled to allow for higher boost pressures. The kit includes black silicone hoses and t-bolt stainless steel clamps. The t-bolts help everything seal properly and deal with the higher boost pressures this core was design to handle. The BOV placement is right next to the stock throttle body and features a stock bolt pattern. This allows people to use whatever BOV they already have in place. Piping is available in two colors, customers can choose from cp-e™ silver or black powdercoating.
•Massive 24” x 9.5” by 3.25” Intercooler
•2.5” Inlet, 2.75” Outlet, cast endtanks
•2.5” and 2.75” Lightweight, powder coated aluminum piping
•Stainless Steel mesh black silicone with T-Bolt clamps all around
•Steel Crash bar upgrade with integrated tow hook powdercoated
•CAD engineered precision CNC milled and bent components
•No modification necessary for fitment
•Lifetime warranty

Warranty Information: CP-E Lifetime Warranty

CP-E topmount
Top mount intercoolers have become one of the most popular bolt-ons for the MZR DISI engines. cp-e™ set out to design the best.

The biggest restriction of the stock TMIC is the outlet. Knowing this, cp-e™ alleviated these restrictions through a casting design with a smooth flowing unshrouded outlet. Both endtanks are completely cast to help flow in and out of the core while providing consistency. The core of the cp-e™ TMIC is made of bar and plate for its pressure efficiency and its cooling capabilities. The 3.25” thick core alleviates pressure drop while not interfering with the hood or surrounding components. cp-e™ determined the maximum fin density to create the largest temperature drop across the core. We have even capped every bolt hole location to prevent leaks that would normally go undetected by the consumer. The cp-e™ TMIC comes with 6061 billet CNC brackets machined to perfection on our 4 axis CNC machine.

The shroud is CNC laser cut from billet 6061 aluminum to provide the best possible fitment. The mounting tabs for the shroud are CNC machined from 6061 billet so that they match the shroud exactly.

All of these features add up to the best TMIC out there and cp-e™ is proud to announce the release of it.

Price 565.00
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Corksport TMIC
The CorkSport Top Mount Intercooler (TMIC) provides solid power gains and a great value add to the Mazdaspeed 3, MS6 and CX7 turbo. Made from CorkSport’s own custom cast end tanks which are TIG welded to a 3” thick bar and plate core, the TMIC provides added performance by removing the bottleneck restriction of the stock intercooler and increasing resistance to heat soak by using thicker materials. The cold pipe connection is CNC milled and drilled for a leak proof connection and all bolt holes have been capped off.

CorkSport’s innovative design allows for the reuse of the Mazda OEM plastic shroud giving purchasers the option of maintaining the stock look and feel to the engine bay. An optional aluminum ring is available and can be customized to compliment the finish of your engine bay.

The CorkSport TMIC has been vigorously tested to ensure optimal characteristics. Testing completed on a SuperFlow test bench proved a 46% increase in airflow over the Mazda OEM intercooler. During the testing, the CorkSport TMIC showed an average decrease in pressure across the core by 53% and an increase in overall efficiency of 25% over the stock intercooler.

The CorkSport Advantage:
Proven to provide 46% more airflow over the stock intercooler
Cast aluminum end tanks provide superior airflow over competitors folded tanks
Maintain your factory engine cover and keep the stock stealth and look of your engine bay
Reduces pre-detonation (knock) of the fuel air charge
Increased resistance to heat soak
Bar and plate intercooler core removes bottlenecking for more power with less boost
Fits the 2007-2009 Mazdaspeed 3, 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed 6, 2010+ Mazdaspeed 3, and Cx7
Choose from multiple custom finishing options to compliment your style
Corksport Service and Support: Receive full color installation instructions, all of the needed installation hardware, and knowledgeable telephone installation support

*Please note due to the design of the factory hood scoop on the 2010+ Mazdaspeed 3 the hood scoop seal will rest on the rear intercooler end tank with the optional aluminum shroud

Price 399.00
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Turbo XS FMIC
The leading cause of inconsistent horsepower output from your Mazdaspeed 3’s MZR 2.3 DISI powerplant is due to inconsistent air intake temperatures. When you drive your MS3 hard, the tiny stock Top Mount Intercooler quickly becomes heat soaked. Intake temps rise quickly and power output drops off accordingly. Sure, you could replace your stock TMIC with an aftermarket TMIC that is slightly larger than the stock TMIC, but that only delays the inevitable heat soak that comes from having a small intercooler core that is positioned smack on top of your hot engine.

Price -999.00 gen1 only

build your own kit with a Treadstone TR10 - not the easiest (requires crash bar removal) but it fits the MS6 grille perfectly

Default intro

hi folks,
I'm here as the mechanic (father) of a 2010 speed3 owner (daughter). I've been on here as a guest in the past, and for the most part, it's been very helpful.
Now I'm searching diligently for answers to the excessive smoking when started, and for way to long after its been started. There is also a problem with stalling when stopping. But, as suggested, I'm weeding through the many posts before i throw my hands up. I've found 3 different "fixes" so far, and they all seem very convinced that theirs is the real solution.
Intake valve seals, oil restriction bolt, drain tube. It's exhausting and a bit frustrating at times. Think I'll just redo it all
K, I'm done ranting Thanx

Smoking from the tailpipe can only be one of two things (aside from engine problems). It's either oil burning from leaking seals in the turbo (turbo is worn out) or a bad head gasket (coolant vapor). Head gasket failures are EXTREMELY uncommon on our platform unless you're heavily modified. So, my money would be on the turbo. Restrictor bolts may subdue the smoke, but that's not fixing the problem. In fact, it's making it worse because all that does is reduce the lubrication of the journal bearing in the turbo further. The correct fix is to take off the turbo inlet pipe and inspect the turbo for shaft play and oil in the compressor housing. If it knocks side to side and has all sorts of oil in the housing, it's time to replace the turbo before it grenades and makes it time to replace the entire engine.

FYI: For future reference, this is definitely not the correct thread to address your issue. Start a new thread next time in the troubleshooting section.
