i thought compressor surge was upon letting off the throttle...?

5-5.8k RPM is an area of 'sustained' boost; might it be possible that your BPV is leaking?

is the 'short squeal' a one-time occurrence per WOT run, or does it come back continually?

does the car lose power w/ the squeal?

I think this is normal. You just switched to a sri, You can probably hear your turbo more than with the stock intake. My turbo squeals like a pig. My friends SRT4 sounded the same when he added an intake.

no boost gauge or DH...

Its a one time thing that happens when i first go wot. Once i shift and go past the 5-5.8k again it doesnt do it. I was wondering if its my bpv as well...

I was also thinking it could be a bearing in my turbo when stressed with max rpm the bearing could be sheering against its race?

thanks

My turbo squealed too.... because the blades on my compressor got damaged.

Check your turbo.

Mine is awaiting a new turbo for that exact problem. Squealing under boost for the first few times I hit WOT. Dealer claimed it's a bearing that failed and authorized the replacement. Currently waiting for it to come in. I suggest you de-mod and take it in and have them look at it.

squeel? or a piercing ringing sound? that would be the turbo spinning at a ridiculous rpm. These fuckers are loud esp with a sri which will let you hear more turbo. its hard to say because i cant hear exactly what the sound is.
-i guess its turbo gone bad, just read steves post

what SRI are you running? i have a CPE, it makes a "sqealish" whistling sound, which is the air whizing through the air flow str8-ner

if you are talking about that sound, its normal. its the design of the CP-E SRI. so its not the turbo "squealing" its the sound the SRI makes as air passes the air flow str8-ner at WOT

the turbo spool sound of this car is kinda like a screaming whistle sound. very different from the sound the SRI makes. this is what our turbo spool sounds like if you can get it to be loud enough

Wakeboarddudes turbo sounded like this when it was loud

I hear a little squeal too after my FMIC install. I have a boost guage so I have an idea when it happens. It doesn't sound like anything damaged, it actually sounds like its the wastegate regulating turbo RPM.

It only happens for me as I am passing 15psi when I am rapidly building boost. If I build boost slowly, there is no sound all the way to my peak pressure (~18.5 psi).

I haven't been able to look at wastegate duty yet on my AP because I am focusing on my MAF Cal right now. Once I get that squared away I will take a look.

For now, when I hear that noise, I level out my throttle input to hold boost but build up slowly.

if you hear a squeal after your fmic you probably have a leak at one of the couplers when the boost pressure gets up there quickly, much like letting the air out of a balloon. you may want to do a pressure test.

I too thought the same thing and checked all of my couplers. What made me move on from that theroy is the fact that in either case (building boost quickly or not) I hold peak boost pressure.
