Great write up!! I need to do this BAD. But I'm gonna wait a bit as I just pout in 7.2 qts of M1 after the BSD. Perhaps right before BT install.

My intake runners look like this as of a couple weeks ago:

Will one treatment clean this shit out, or should I do it back to back with my next two oil changes?

Also: I'm sure this was mentioned somewhere, but if you have still have your stock plugs, pop those in for this if you're running 1 step colders. That way you save some loot

I should, but I'm not gonna, lol. I'll do the seafoam, and then I should be running meth soon enough so that should help.

I'm almost at 40k miles & used this for the first at 1/3 in the crank case then commuted for about 100 miles. I changed the oil the next day & as I checked my dip stick to make sure it as filled, the oil was already dirty. I guess that means it was cleaning out my crank case & left all the junk? I also used 1/3 through the bpv & I didn't get any smoke. I'll try a whole fucking bottle next time.

Has anyone used the 3M DIY Fuel System Tune Up Kit? How does it compare with Sea Foam? The 3M process seems safer (no hydro lock risk).

Got dismissed from Jury duty early today, so I did this for the first time on my Speed6. The car has just over 60,000 miles. I used about a half of a can, and put the rest in the gas tank. I didn't get a whole lot of smoke. The engine seems to idle a little smoother, but I haven't noticed a difference in throttle response. I haven't replaced spark plugs yet, though.

I'm about due for an oil change, so I'll give it another shot in 5000 or so miles and see how how it goes. I may give the 3M system a shot.

if you didn't get much smoke, your engine temp may have been too low.. was it at operating temp? i usually do the seafoam after a good drive.. i have 52k on my ms3 and do this every oil change. this last weekend i did it and had mega smoke..

i'll try the 3m next. way better than the dealership doing their version for $200..

This 3M product looks pretty good, too bad it doesn't appear to be readily available in Canada.

How would this work compared to SeaFoam Spray (Not Deep Creep), which looks to be regular Seafom but with a longer straw attachment so you can stick it in the intake.
http://www.seafoamsales.com/sea-foam-spray.html

Seems to work the same as the 3M kit.l

i think the longer uptake time of the 3m kit would indicate more time to clean all that nastiness on the valves and manifold.. not sure though. can't you order from amazon and have them ship to canaduh?

I had just gotten home from a 30 minute drive, and the car sat in the driveway for about 20 minutes. Before I started the Seafoam process, I idled it for about 10 minutes. When I try again, I'll make sure the engine is good and hot.

I wouldn't think so, unless it does't burn as fast as the SF?

Reason why you have to turn yur car off to let the SF sit.

Well, I am due for an oil changes and after I looked at my throttle body and intake mani when I did the TIG install... I did this.

Smoked like holy hell! And I live in the city so it was funny to see the peoples expressions as they walked by. Went for a drive after idling for 15 minutes because ot was still smoking like a beast. Got a check engine light for miss firing and running too rich. Cleared them and will see if they come back. Other than that everything seems fine.

Will do this every oil change and when I get injection seals I will see if it helped at all.

So I added 1/3 bottle of seafoam in the crankcase, drove to work & back which was around 60 miles. I changed my oil & I noticed that after I changed it my new oil was dirty. I think it cleaned out my crank case, but when I drained the oil not all of the grime came out.

So I think I may be done with Seafoam myself. I just did mine for the second time on my 06MS6. First time was maybe 10-15K ago so 35000 miles. Got some decent smoke, 2 CELs, and a little dieseling. Yesterday I did an oil change adn put in IVT22s so I wanted to seafoam again before that.

So, I did it last week at ~50000 miles, about 1/3 a can trhough the brake booster line. The car was dieseling like a mofo. Violently shaking and making pinging noises. Basically idling super rough at like 250rpms after the car was off. Was not comforting at all to watch it do this for like 20 seconds. Finally stopped and I waited another 10-15minutes. Started right back up, no CELs this time, but it hardly smoked at all. Just a haze while idling then a little more as I drove around the block and got on it a little.

Also, no noticable effect positve or negative. Seems to idle, rev, run exactly as before. I don't know. Maybe I will try that 3M product. I work for them and if I see it at the company store for a discount I will pick it up. But for now, I dont' think I will do seafoam again anytime soon.

Well.. no sense to keep seafoaming if you're not seeing any difference.
I say instead of trying that 3M... just take off your IM and take a look.
This will give you the best indication as to where you stand.

The car should pretty much smoke the same after 2k miles. At least on these cars. Either the car wasn'thot enuff or you put it in too slow/fast.

what i meant by the longer uptake is that seafoam is drawn in over 2 minutes at most, then sits. i am most concerned with the intake manifold and valves being dirty, so it would seem that the 3m cleaner is drawn in at idle through the throttle body for a good 10-15 minutes. the cleaning product is spraying continuously that whole time, so it seems that would clean the valves and im better than sucking some seafoam in and hoping enough sits on the valves and in the im to get it clean.

i should get the 3m kit at the end of next week. i'll post up any noticeable difference.

edit: so, i did the 3m kit and it did seem to open up the engine more than seafoam. it was a bitch getting the induction product into the throttle, but it dispensed for almost 20 min. the throttle plate was also a bitch to clean since mine was super hot and i kept burning my fingers pushing it open.

i did find and fix a boost leak (loose clamp on boost tube) while i was doing this, so it is hard to give a subjective review of the product since i'm not losing boost anymore and the car is beastly again because of that. any improvements from a cleaner im will pale in comparison to holding boost again. one day i'll pull the im and then we'll see..

Yeah, any auto parts. Frequency of use, well, that is really up to you. I don't honestly know how often I'm going to do it. I doubt anybody is going to do it every oil change.

Did the seafoam today, car has 31,600 miles.

Bought the car used with 24,400 miles, I doubt the previous owner seafoamed it.

Sorry for the bad angle!

Talk about not wanting to turn off. I just did the first part, first time on this car, but when I turned the key off it kept going and about 5 sec later I thought to just put it in gear to kill it. Didn't think it could run that long on fumes. Well we will see in a bit if I get any good smoke. 20k on the car.

This is the BG(Barry Grant) Inject-A-Flush Apparatus to clean fuel injectors via the shredder valve on the fuel rail or you can use the sprayer nozzle to clean the IM and the intake valve through the throttle body.

Here are the instructions:

Ok guys, I just finish doing the de-carbonizing of the intake valves. It was pretty easy to do. Total time without the drive was less than an hour. Here are the steps---->

1. Get the engine to normal operational temp.
2. Turn off the car and then remove the intercooler
3. Set the BG Inject-A-Flush at 60 psi
4. Place the spray nozzle on the bottom of the throttle body rubber coupling.
5. Pour a can of BG ISC into the Inject-A-Flush and then screw the top on.
6. Hook-up the air hose from the compressor to the Inject-A-Flush. The compressor size I used was just 8 gallons. Plenty for this project. I bet 3 gallons will do just fine for this procedure.
7. Put the intercooler back on. This is where you will see in the picture the nozzle sticking out. When you tighten the clamp, don't over tighten it.
8. Start the car after everything is button up.
9. Open the valve to the inject-A-Flush to release the solution. The car will start to idle rough, but won't stall. It will take 6-10 minutes for the solution to empty. You will need to run the engine for a total of 15 mins.
10. After 15 mins, turn off the engine. Remove the intercooler and the Inject-A-Flush spray nozzle.
11. Wait 30 mins before driving around to burn off the carbon build-up.
12. Install the intercooler back and tighten everything up.
13. After waiting 30 mins.....go for a nice 15-20 min drive.
14. When you get back from your drive, pour a bottle of BG 44K into the gas tank(make sure you have a full tank of gas). Now, you are done!!

With the BG Inject-A-Flush, I could put Seafoam in it instead of using the brake booster hose. so far I have done 1 can of Seafoam through the brake booster hose and 3 treatments with the BG using ISC cleaner. The rep from BG told me to use the fuel injector clean because it is stronger and will remove more carbon. I have the cans now, but I starting cleaning the IM and valve at every oil change. Everyone knows taking the IM off is a PITA and cleaning the valve is time consuming. I'm hoping that by doing this will save me time and money. I have pics of the valves after a couple of cleaning and will post the results when I get home.

Lexus engines has an extra injector on the port side to help with carbon build-up...

Two-Way Direct and Port Injection: "To enhance engine performance, direct to cylinder fuel injection delivers a high compression ratio to extract maximum fuel energy. Low-pressure port fuel injectors help produce a precise burn to optimize power and efficiency under light and medium-load conditions."

Lightbulb The results are in....

Ok, after 1 Seafoam treatment through the break booster hose and 3 BG Inject-A-Flush treatments to clean the intake valves, the results are not that great. See the pics below. Just so you know after doing the 3rd treatment with the BG Inject-A-Flush, the PCV valve started to stick which caused pressure build-up in the engine and then I started to see smoke from my tailpipe at idle(frick!!) I must have loosen something in the intake mani to cause the PCV valve to stick or the check ball thingie got stuck closed. I was getting no vacuum from the OCC when I opened it. The pressure was building up so much it was passing through the turbo seals. I swapped out the old PCV with a brand new PCV valve and I decided to for go the Matt Damon 2nd check ball valve(FORZDA recommends you just need the stock PCV valve only for the OCC). There was definite oil in the intake mani and turbo. I changed everything and there is no more smoking from the exhaust. I also decided to do the EGR valve deletion....it should be coming in by the end of the week.

What dealership did you steal that BG kit from?

Ebay......I got it for a steal. The dealership service dept will charge you $125-150 for just one cleaning. I'm hoping the fuel injector cleaner will work better than the ICS.
