Thanks for the pics and tips guys. Much appreciated. This requires no special tools or skills beside perhaps the punch to push the pin through.

I did this this afternoon after noticing the telltale gear oil leak at 120k on my 2007 Speed3. Didnt bother with the vent or bearing. What are the symptoms of a bad shaft bearing anyway?

Here are Speed3 specific photos in case someone else hasnt posted the link:

Mark the unit with a mechanics marker as you pull it out so you know how it goes back in and how all the parts align. The pics in the above link help if you didnt mark it.

It's about 3/4" long by 1/2" wide and is hollowed out on one side. The hollowed out part is round (to fit the end of the cable) and the other side is flat (to fit in the notch on the pivot shaft).
Just make sure you try to remove it from the end of the cable and if it's not there check the pivot shaft as it may have been left in the notch.

It's directly on top of the transmission where this happens and the springs / gates tend to warp because of heat and obviously, the warmer the vehicle gets, the weaker the metal gets not allowing it to force it out of the way like it was cold."

How do you deal with this? I think I have this issue.. I can't get into first and reverse..and probably fourth. I cant push it down in any position to drop it into reverse after replacing the seal and bearing

I didn't mark the long rod with the guide pin. Is there only one way it can fit back in, or two? Trying to narrow down my issue.. don't want to break it open again if I don't have to...

Got it. It's horizontal. It was vertical before and I couldn't get into 1st or 4th... And couldn't drop it down into reverse.

Anyone have the part number for it? It damaged it a bit driving with the plastic clip in the vertical position
