Default Uhhhhh Air Lift Kit 1000

UPDATE!!!!:

Ok, did some measuring on the Gen2 stock springs. On the Gen1, I think I measured them while uncompressed. (just like a newb ass). Doing that will lift the car alittle without pumping them.
Gen2 compressed are 3.5"x6" from the top inside bolt to the bottom top of the coil spring. The top bolt head comes down lower then the top bottom of the coil spring.
So the lined cavity area is 3.5"x6"
Also have to take into the equation are the support rings and rubber blocks on both ends that come with the kits.
I have gotten the bag dimensions sheet from AirLift and the ones in green are optimal to our cars. The ones in blue will work also with very little lift. The ones in red will lift but still can be used.
Please post Coil Spring sizes from stock compressed Gen1, MS6 and any other after market Coil Spring (compressed) here. So I can make a database on the OP for others. TIA!

Original Post Below for reference:
While I'm waiting on these group buys to end or take money (mummbling) I got bored and had to find something to do lol.
Previously I put PRC Spacers on the rear coils to help with lauching and/or extra grocery and stuff overload in the back. I know it's ghetto but it helped alittle.
http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...y-out-lol.html
This Air Lift Kit is a step up between spacers and air shocks but not by much lol. These will have to be modified alittle since they don't make one for our cars. I got the closest to the rear coil inside dimensions 3"x9" air bag #60756 , the next one closest would be 3.44"x8.75" #80753 .

Cut the top at the marks with hand saw or saw saw.

Drill about half way down with a 1" paddle bit.

Squeeze the air out of the bladders and put the black cap back on so it will keep the shape.

Removed the PRC Spacers.

Stick the upper block in cuz it will be harder if you do it after you put the bladder in.

Fold and push in the bladder.

Fold and insert the lower doughnut waffer in.

Start adjusting everything.

Start putting the hoses together (USE WD-40 cuz these are very hard to put on).

Drilled a 5/16" hole in rear lower bumper lip.

I put silicone vacuum hose on the lines where they might/would rub and zip tied them up.

At about 27psi it really picks the car up lol.

This is 15psi will test drive it tomorrow.

Minimum air should be at 5psi and a maximum of 35psi for these air bladders. I will probably use 10-15psi daily and 20-25psi with a load. Drag strip will be 35psi to help with launch lol. Enjoy.

Update:
I had to go bigger on the upper block hole from 1" to 1.5". The 1" was sitting on the coil plate bolt washer and cocking off center. 1.5" lets it sit more flush now, wider balance surface.
Jhornbrook likes this.

I used to use one of these in my left spring on my mustangs to help launch the car at the track.

Welp, drove it around. OH MAN! Talk about a solid feeling launch. On stock suspension when you shift, before the car tends to rock back and forth when shifting or launching. Now you just shift and it goes no rock, just a little up and down on the front. At 15psi it's a little bouncy in the rear, but not to bad. It seemed to help with cornering giving the front tires more bite, since the weight is now more on the outside front corner of a turn. Feels like less understeer (until you brake traction), abit more oversteer.
All in all this is an great single mod that does more than one thing! I think so anyways.:phillyb:

I had to go bigger on the upper block hole from 1" to 1.5". The 1" was sitting on the coil plate bolt washer and cocking off center. 1.5" lets it sit more flush now, wider balance surface.

Yeah, when we get bored lol.
I want times also, someone do this and take it to the track. Record 5psi (which will be like stock) and 35psi consistent launches, should be a decrease in time anywhere from .2-.4 sec in the 60ft mark.

.2 to .4 seconds?!?!

I think thats a lofty goal, especially for those running track tires and already running 1.90's. I think a half a tenth to a tenth is more likely.

I am gonna resuscitate this bitch.
If the OP pr someone else who did this is still around I got a few questions.
How often do you need to re-inflate the bags, or how long does a 5-10 psi pump on the bags last before a re-inflating?
Any reliability issues? Hoses kinking or bags rubbing against spring causing them to rupture?

i dont have these since im going coilovers but ive used them on other vehicles. they are designed to rub on the spring and not wear very much. they will have to be replaced every few years though since they are a wear part. environment conditions contribute the most to their life span ie, on the west coast smogs going to eat them and on the east coast the cold is going to make them brittle over time. lines wont rupture or break unless you did a poor install initially. if you want to go crazy you could always use ss braided lines but with such low pressures its really not necessary.

your going to loose about 2psi a week depending on oat.

when i was considering doing this i was going to get an onboard compressor with a guage in the cabin so i could monitor and change pressure on the go. it was only going to cost about 100 extra.

I installed them last week end. So far I like it. I am running 7-8 psi and its just the right amount of pressure so the car doesn't squat anymore and not too much so it's not bouncy.

An onboard compressor is certainly an option but I change tires to go to the track about once a month and with that of course I check pressures. Don't want to lay cables all over the place to monitor pressure and power the compressor - yet. May be in the future.

For 90 dorrah I think this is a great mod.

biggest plus of onboard compressor is being able to change tire pressures while at the track.

i was thinking of this also! it will work well, if i get hooked up good out of the hole, it will bang on the rear bump stops, and screw your traction this will stop that

good job man!

the only thing i would of done different, is after they are filled, have a small isolation valve to keep the air from going from one bag to the other..

but that will only be noticed in cornering

holly shit. that's a good point.
The kit comes with two valves so one could just inflate the bags separately.
What kinda isolation valve are you thinking of? I guess one could use two check valves after the tee or just any type of valves.
Inflate bags, close valves. go.

edit: check valves wouldn't work.

you could get two air check vavles, they auto close so theres no need to get under the car.

Tomas, did you get them to use at the track, or just when the car is loaded? whats your suspension setup?

You are right. It would. But if one side for whatever reason either gets more air while inflating or looses air faster than the other you are going to have pressure imbalance. You also wouldn't know how much pressure is in the actual bag if the lines going to the bag loose pressure faster than the line+bag after the check valve.
What I did is buy a volume control valve. You can set it so there is barely any air moving through it so that the pressure stabilizes but doesn't go from one side to the other while cornering. Or at least just barely.

In retrospect I am actually thinking if you use separate tire valves for each side that one might be able to sort of use it to corner weigh the car?

I am running Koni FSD 4045 with the front knuckle stops trimmed to lower the front. Rear bump stops are also trimmed. I also haz tri point RSB and hotchkiss FSB. Was on h&R springs but ride was too tough for my sissy ass so I went back to stock springs.

Next track day for me is APR 9.
I'll post some impressions soon thereafter.

Edit: BTW. I went to school at Saint Mikes. Best time of my life. I fucking love VT.

So are the stock springs not stiff enough for you? I don't think I'm getting the point as to why you would need these for the track.

Ha St Mikes huh. What year did you graduate? I went to Champlain, '08. I had a buddy that went there. I partied a handful of times on that campus, but I swear those kids never left their little area. I think I got my buddy to come party downtown maybe once the whole time he was at St. Mikes. But yeah, VT is cool. My job pays for half of my ski pass, and the summers up here are pretty amazing; everything is so green. Just too many fucking cops. Can't wait for my first track days down at NHMS this summer. I've been paranoid about speeding for far too long...

to stop rear squat on take off...

does it help with traction out of the hole?

The initial reason for getting these is related to the FSDs. They don't have a lot of compression damping in the rear and I rub on 225/40/18 on stock rims. Not much and only when I do laps and the rear is fully compressed riding the bump stops on some high speed drops.

This is what the squatting looks like

They also help with traction when you hit the pedal on corner exit.

I graduated St. Mike late 90's so can't say how the atmosphere is there now. I can tell you however that when I was there if I wanted to party I went to Montreal. Less than 2 hours away IIRC. Club Zona. Used to be open all night till noon on Sunday. Rolling all night. Lots of E everywhere. Then crossing the border with pupils the size of fried egs. Yeah, those were the days. I miss that shit.

Yes they do.

What I did is buy a volume control valve. You can set it so there is barely any air moving through it so that the pressure stabilizes but doesn't go from one side to the other while cornering. Or at least just barely.

In retrospect I am actually thinking if you use separate tire valves for each side that one might be able to sort of use it to corner weigh the car?
probably the best thing for you would be running each bag independantly with a single air guage with dual needles so you can guage both sides seperately.

if you want to get a little crazy you could get electric valves smc makes great ones. you would have complete control from the cabin. get a little 2 gal air tank with a compressor and you would have all the air and control you could ever need.

individual air valves is what I ended up doing. I always carry compressor and air tank to the track with me. Inboard set up would be kewl but I prefer to keep it simple.

With 8-12 psi you barely lose a pound in a month. With more pressure it could be the depletion rate is higher but I really only go 20-25 pounds at the track. Street driving at this pressure gets pretty bouncy.
