Honestly this community has been through so much pushing the goal away another .2 will make your life miserable. First i dont know what my hp is so we can't really talk about what a 360 hp car evo can do. Also that evo that you are talking about is about 3000 or so lbs as well which is about 300lbs lighter than my car so i would need about 400 to do what he has done with less power.. WHEN i get down to 3000 lbs then we can make the HP for HP comparo!!!

I gutted my car for a track day in the mazda and left only door panels and dash and passenger seat I made it down to 2980 with half a tank of gas. I had 15 pounds wheels and 20 pound tires aswell.

God bless your heart if you can get that ms6 down to the 3k range. I have a feeling for you to make that weight going down the track your gonna have to two step, launch the car and instantly open the door and jump out.

So I was under the impression from reading lenny's threads that launching a BT like a 3071 or a 3076 was pretty fucken difficult - it's why I respect what 9900rpm has done (He hasn't been around recently, I wonder what happened to him? Maybe john@theshopct blew his motor too? I hope that isn't the case)

I thought the launch was difficult for a BT car because you gotta spin the motor fast enough to make boost, but not so fast that you light up the tires? I imagine this window is extraordinarily small for a car making 400 whp, let alone one making more (sorry joel but I can't say 475 based off of your butt dyno)

I mean no disrespect but I honestly don't see you (jwilks) making 11's on a high-hp fwd car regardless of your power - remember, in the forum wars a 500 whp civic lost to a sub- or near-300 whp ms3 in the drag race. Trap speeds will be more important until you get some experience launching your car IMO.

I can respect that... Granted, my 475 whp is a total guess man. I feel as if I could have made 450 on John's tune, so that's what I'm basing it on.

The key thing here is that I have a better track setup than the civic did. Primarily, I have slicks, and I'm pretty sure that the civic driver was full of fail. I'm not sure if I'm a better driver or not, but i'd like to think so. This weekend will tell the tale, no?

Absolutely - I was just basing that off of lenny's thread about trying to get into the 12's, as well as other threads I have seen about people with respectable power running 13's and 14's their first time out at the drag strip (and gitdat who ran mid 15's I think, even tuned and with a fairly decent amount of mods). Lenny is an experienced drag racer from what I can tell and even he had a bitch of a time getting the speed 3 with slicks to do anything besides eat up his ACT clutch.

I'm really looking forwards to see what happens this weekend, but from what I've read/seen drag racing a FWD is a completely different ball game. I wish you the best and I do hope you get into the 11's - however I don't think you should be disappointed if you run a 13+ sec 1/4 time with a 120+ mph trap speed.

Werd... I'm an aggressive optimist. It's how I live my life. I'm also a little bit (just a wee bit ) cocky. Combine those two things, and I start saying and expecting crazy things. I'm won't be surprised if my first few runs are a little bit disappointing.

I do, however, expect that I'm going to get a couple really good runs in there. We'll see. At this point, it's all speculation and conjuncture.

I could get out there and be a natural and run 11.7s all day (doubtful)
I could get out there and suck ass and run 13s all day (hopefully doubtful )
I could get out there and destroy my clutch after one run (most likely scenario)

I'm here. Still browse the forums every so often. Been working a lot, and snowboarding on the weekends. The MS3 has been kinda neglected, except for snow tires. I did get the external wastegate setup on there about a month ago, and boost holds solid to redline. I may go back and get retuned, or just look at logs to see how everything is, before hitting the track. I would like to snatch 11's for the gen 2's, but who knows. I know this car is heavy as shit, and I think the Hoosiers I have aren't the stickiest out there. A few pages back, driver311 posted some good info, which I'm trying to go by. If I can get some super light 15" wheels, with M&H slicks, spacers, and some light wheels for the back as well, my chances of tapping 11's are much better. Like Speed3eak said, launching on the 3076 is a motherfucker. Too little and you bog, too much and it cooks tires. I am used to netting solid 1.6's on turbo Civics, and 1.7's in SRT4's on slicks (both on M&H).

WOW...I saw this thread has grown alot, and came in to see the results. Well its mostly bitching back and forth in good ol typical MSF fashion lol. Well maybe Im a crazy mother fucker...But I hope ALL you guys have success with your builds. I have no hate towards anyone, I think its stupid. We spend so much fuckin money, because we like cars..love going fast...we share atleast somethings in common.

When I see people like myself buring money and time into their car, Iam like shit, hope it all works out. Cause when I see other people succeed then gives me alittle hope on what I might expect from my car. I must say..While I like my car alot..dammm..gotta give love to the evo..that thing is just alot of car for the money..I wont jump sides on the evo vs ms6....but lets just say the evo has proven itself over and over and over again at the track..cant deny its hell of car with a long successful storied background. The ms6 seems to have alot of potential, and looking forward to seeing some faster trap times.

Im no expert here, I go to Tim Bailey for my tuning. I put on simple bolts on and medium difficulty parts on my car...I know enough to keep me from paying mechanics bunch of money 99% of the time, thats about it. But I must say, that getting quick times with the ms3 seems like it will be very hard...Heck I have a super hard time getting anything out of 1st&2nd gear when im 3/4 throttle on stoplight lol....BUT you see tons of srt4's and Civics fwd cars posting up awesome times....maybe its gearing for the srt4, maybe its less tq for the Civic..I have no clue.

Im about ready to go 3071 on my ms3, goals are 350ish whp..and im gonna call it good...Ill take it to the track in the near future and see what it can do, but it just seems like our mazdas DO not like the dragstrip, compared to other platforms...Maybe we just dont have as many drivers racing, but as always I poke my head in and see how everyone is progessing. I have to ask when you owned the speed 6? and was all the current tuning solutions available to you at that time.

I remember a video of I think street unit mark and you racing his 40r 6 and your evo... you had less power and still beat him but that was obviously before the current SB "wall barrier" was broken.

as well I doubt you had over 400 whp in the speed 6 when you did the 12.89.

how much whp did you have in the 6 on that run and how much did you have in the evo on that run?

remember my only point in now a days we are capable of making more whp. If I remember correctly you never had the privilege of making the power you could have now a days...

DJ made what 449 AWHP on a 3071? altho I never saw any slips but I trust it's true.... I can't wait till he's done with his current build with much larger turbo.... you can't honestly tell me that a speed 6 with 500+ AWHP wouldn't break into the high 11's AT LEAST... altho it hasnt been done yet.

Now if you add huge mods to the 6, it can be done with the other cars too, which give a lot faster times and trap speeds...

I also believe that you had over 25 psi on a larger turbo(16g vs a ko4) than the speed as well. Most of this evo vs ms6 with mild mods is due to the turbo. Now the
evos and dsms of the world have proven themselves for over 14 years so i am not knocking them. The ms6 is a completely different animal and we are still trying to work out the bugs with them and get down in the times.. You seriously think that the stock TD05 is a good turbo? lmao. There is no one that has even broke 400whp on them without it being a magical dyno. Now, if you want to compare apples and oranges... the 6 has and extra .3 liters, and a boat load more torque...now, what is that going to do for the 1320? Think about it...

So yes, I can run more boost, you have more displacement. And you think that the 4B11 is this old tried and true motor? LOL, let's not get it confused with the 4G63.

agree but how many KO4s making over 300 on the speed6 more less 400? The td05 is still a larger more flowing turbo than the ko4.. i tell you what drop that k04 in a dsm or an evo and i will bet that it will not get the times that it would with the tdo5-16g not the dsm 14b...
