Damn! 6 Attachment(s) Check this shit out. Went to Atco last night cuz the weather was nice. Wanted to crack off a few runs, but instead I busted my left axle. When I say busted, I don't mean breaking the CV. This shit snapped on the shaft part, by the end of the inner boot. I guess these Hoosiers can get pretty sticky. Burnout felt real good. Snapped it at the line. Didn't even trip the beams. Anyone know where I can find axles cheap? **Update. Got a stock '10 MS3 axle from a junkyard, off a wrecked one with 8000 miles (anyone here?). Also posted pics of the busted axle, off the car. The spline end parts of these axles look real thick, but the center shaft does not. This one broke on the inside end, with the splines still in the boot. |
Damn cousin... At least your car isn't upset, it's still smiling |
Should I bother saying I'm glad it was only the axle? |
push that shit back in there!!! |
Fuck you Terry, you're suppose to be running 11's |
fucking hondas.... |

Try these guys: Raxles, America's premier supplier of OE quality CV Axles and CV joints | Raxles.com Alot of the VW/Audi guys use them when they start snapping axles and they have had good success. I have used them before and they are definately a great company to deal with. |
I emailed some remanufacturing place, and they said they have different part numbers for the 2007/2008 MS3 axles and the 2010 MS3's. Does anyone here have a way to look it up to see if it's really a different part? I would think that it's the same shit, but I wanna make sure. Found a spot that has the 2007/2008 ones for $45, with a $35 core charge, and free shipping if you buy $50+ worth of stuff. Trying to find a $5 part right now, otherwise shipping is $20. @rfinkle2, yes! When the shit broke at the line, I was like FUCK!! Got out, looked under, saw no fluids on the ground and was happy. When I swapped the stock wheels back on and saw the busted axle, I was even happier. My cousin that owns my old red SRT4 ACR keeps breaking axles, and just last week he busted his input shaft. Had me worried for a second. @Amazon, I'm working on it. If the axle would have held up, yesterday was potentially a really good night. The amount of grip the slicks had was off the chain! |

I've ordered oem parts from onlinemazdaparts and the internet salesperson, J? Baggins is really good. He kept me informed something I ordered was backordered, and when it came in, remembered to e-mail me a tracking #. He is on point. Good prices also. |
Looks like you were doing something right |
is this the first MS3 to break an axle? its the first one i ever heard of...... btw dont waste your time anywhere else but the driveshaft shop. they got a rear axle made for us MS6'ers pretty quick. P.S. i drove 1500 miles home on a broken axle you pussy........ heres what was left by the time i got back to DC from dustins house in NM lol http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...00627-1018.jpg |

Somebody help me out. Need to know if the 2007/2008 left axle is the same as 2010. Raxles only has a right one in stock. Another place has one for a 2008, and says there's a listing with different part number for 2010, which he doesn't have. |
damn dog good luck with that |
for as often as u go to the track i would find a cheapo axle and get the driveshaft shop to make you a new one. check here, ive had good luck with them car-part.com |

DSS's axles are somewhat pricey, but we'll see. I was drag racing this car all last year and axles held up fine. Maybe it just progressively weakened them. Raxles do have some available (only the right one at the moment), which I may also look into. They're a bit cheaper. I read somewhere on this, or another forum that the left axle shaft is actually skinnier than the right, and being that the tranny is on the left side, I'm thinking if anything, I will snap more left axles than rights. Found 2 or 3 on car-part.com. Talking to the people now. |
people in the vdub world go through axles like its changing oil but its mostly because they are lowered and they start to bind. from what i remember the raxles werent the best replacement for longevity. |
Man bro.. that sucks, but like someone else said... at least it was JUST an axle. I gotta ask though... were you recording video when the axle snapped? |
Shit man, your slicks must have been super sticky! Haha that's some rough shit. I'm guessing all your motor mounts are upgraded? |
LOL I deff saw you i was like Sweet another ms3! then the next thing my friend tells me you broke down i was like dam lol |

Could you at least slowly drive the car? The LSD should allow you to at least move it around the lot. |

Added pics of the snapped axle, off the car. |

driveshaft shop ftw....wtb heavy duty axles LOL |
rub some 'tussin on it |
So how much is a spare axel? |
Last time I checked for axles for my Gendone, it was a dealer item only. And yes, OE axles are always going to be the most expensive route. That price is not that far off from how Hyundai prices their axles. |
Quote:
BTW, I was told that gen 1 and gen 2 have different part numbers on the axles. Gen 1 axles are all over (even though nobody snaps them). |
Good to know. I think I checked sometime winter/spring of 2010. |
Ok thank you guys |
