@MZRSPEED; Do you think those wheels would be ok? Thank you for the link for the tires, I will get those ordered :)

They should be fine, it's really the only option you have if you're going with a 16" wheel. Good luck, looking forward to your track times.

Looking for some quick advise from a few drag masters. I am starting to read up more and more after getting addicted this weekend (my first time ever at the drag strip). I was only at an 1/8 mile track but I was mostly concerned about practicing my launch and getting a feel for the car at the track. My quickest 60' was a 2.03 and my quickest 1/8 was only a 9.2 with a 2.1 60'.

I was launching around 4k and let the clutch slip a little. I currently have the full face ACT clutch with a streetlite flywheel. After a few runs I really felt like the clutch wasn't grabbing as hard as it could. Maybe I was feathering the clutch too much? Is that the correct way to do it? I was spinning all four out of the gate until I was at about 25 mph. I could tell because of the logs I took during the run. The vehicle speed was bouncing everywhere. I am currently on all seasons and stock wheels. Is this affecting my time much??

Other than weight reduction and a custom tune, is there anything else that should be improved before I head back out and try again? I did make 10 passes without breaking anything, and that includes a rear end that isn't mounted yet. I feel my luck running out though lol

I know that I need to work on upgrading my cooling if I want to make solid passes back to back so that is also in the future.

Spec 02-23-2014 11:37 PM

Fully mounted and still wheel hopping. Should I give it more power coming off the line? I usually take off at around 3kand feather the clutch slightly before letting off. I was going to try Friday but, someone hit the wall at 120 and I was at the end of the line.

Livingframe 03-01-2014 11:36 PM

Yo guys, made goal today. Went faster this time so I was able to post: Full weight 12 second pass sub 12.988 on 93 driver tuned on the factory tire. Only had 1/32 left and it was nearly the same DA I had 1107 on 12/21 and today 1071. Only changes: Modded stock airbox and revised midpipe to remove a restriction wtih a re-tune. Thanks guys! SDG, Michael tire_1294_slip | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

mxlplx71 03-02-2014 09:18 AM

dang good job.
how the heck you get under 2 sec 60 fts
so you gutted second cat?

Livingframe 03-02-2014 11:41 PM

thanks brother, I have a vid in my sig that shows how I did it. this latest pass was full weight, the pipe is revised to remove a restriction and I added a short cai stack to my stock intake box. 78 degrees and seeing about 265g/s I trapped with about 17.99 psi which really helped on the top end. car is making about 285-290 in the daytime now, it actually runs hotter in the 1000-1500 density altitude range now. https://vimeo.com/82587394 there's more in the car, I didn't quite drive its wheels off on saturday but I did on 12/21/13 I could not have gone any faster and it was enough... really pleased to have seen 4 passes 1.96-1.953 down to the wire on the factory tire. the last day it ran it was during the day with more track temp and that really helped... as soon as it got cooler for first elimination round... hop/spin. time for something new! haha I got to get back at that Mustang! DANG IT

I've seen clearer video's watching porn through static channels.

Livingframe 03-03-2014 03:54 PM

yup. my go pro had seen finer days. it eventually took a dive off of a 572 chevelle.

Livingframe 03-08-2014 01:59 AM

So close... wanted to say I was really happy I got to run with MZRSPEED tonight, he did awesome. Trifecta 12.1s on my home track in the 1.85 60' range, then belted out a 1.70 at the end of the night which was an incomplete run. I'll let him say more about it if he likes but from my end was awesome to have him back. Last time he was here and we met we were both running 14s haha. He was a full second faster than my car tonight. Much respect.

MZRSPEED 03-08-2014 05:58 AM

Who cuts a 1.70 sixty on the last pass and then misses 3rd like a rookie...me, that's who. Ran three 12.1@114 with 1.8xx sixties, adjusted air pressure, lowered LC and ripped a 1.70 sixty to only miss FUCKING 3rd gear, still managed a 12.2...fuck me 11's are soooo close.

Really great times! Goes to show, practice pays off. Can't imagine what you would do with a bigger turbo :o

P.S. Update your sig ;)

Ireland 03-08-2014 07:48 AM

Subing.

Shoot. I went first time couple weeks ago. I hit 13.6 @ 111mph. My 60 was awful at 2.6. Get my 60 down to 2 or less I should be twelves easily.

Not bad for my first time. It was a fudging adrenaline rush. I'm hooked:)

12blkms3 03-08-2014 09:23 AM

I've been practicing my Launching and it's useless, I just sit there and spin! I'm hitting the track tomorrow and the only thing that's keeping my hopes alive is that I'll be able to lower my tire pressure.

Those are great runs, and I have sooo done that. Get a great launch and it throws me off and I miss a shift, or hit the rev limiter :)

Again, that is some great driving!

Gr33ntumb 03-08-2014 09:32 AM

À prepped track must make a nice difference compared to back road launching

It's at the auto club speed way in fontana. I don't think they've ever heard of track prep!

First pass, Grand Sport Vette, stock I think, he ran a 12.281@115.96 with a 1.96 sixty. I went 12.118@114.57 on a 1.86 sixty. Second pass against the vw, lost the slip. Third pass, LS3 maro, cam'd I believe, street tires. He went 13.108@119.37 with a 2.19 sixty. I went 12.158@114.31 on a 1.82 sixty. Last pass, cut a 1.70 sixty, then missed 3rd. Still managed a 12.246@113.65

Yeah man, I launched in reverse my first time at the track in a ms3, so you're not doing THAT bad, lol.

doctavus 03-09-2014 02:28 PM

And no reason to get an upgraded tmic either if you can trap those speeds on a stock one. Good job as always.

Wish you were around when i started modifying.

First time at the strip, on street tires.

802MS3 03-09-2014 06:23 PM

Solid work. 12s are close.

Livingframe 03-10-2014 12:58 PM

wkd of 3/1 I entered a NHRA bracket race because I got so close the night before to see 12s again in my factory tire car with all the furniture in place @ 3450lbs on 93. I had made some changes to the setup (minor, my new V2 SDG Racing eco midpipe and modified stock airbox, retune) and wanted to see a deeper time than my weight reduced time of 12.988. wasnt able to back it up that session, just not enough runs but I was able to see 1.954/12.943@108.94 which is my personal best at 1071 DA, my 12.988 run was at 1107 DA ;D tire_1294_slip | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

12blkms3 03-27-2014 09:42 AM

So first time at the strip was a blast, hoping to dip into the 12's with slicks. I've noticed a lot of people running Hoosiers, I'm looking to pick up some DR soon. What do you guys recommend as far as - brand, size, rim, etc?

My budget is about $600.

$600 could get you damn close to a 15" wheel/slick setup man, do it right te first time if you're gonna be serious about it.

Two 15" wheels will run about $260
Two slicks will be roughly $400
Spacers about $100.

And that's close to full price on everything, shop around for some used wheels, and I went with eibach spacers, so I'm sure a no name brand set would be much cheaper.

8.5/24.5-15

As far as the spacers, you can find them on amazon, just look for an off brand.

One more thing, DONATE BROWNIE :wink1:

mxlplx71 03-27-2014 10:44 AM

m & h have a new 26/8.5/17

8.5/26.0-17 New Tire!

makes me want to sell the 15"rims and spacers to try the 17s out

doubleflusher 03-27-2014 12:46 PM

The 17's are tempting, but not enough sidewall.

Payne Racing 67 03-27-2014 01:27 PM

Ohhhhh I ran a superslow.superslow at superslow mph. My 60' was forever and a half. Wassup?

Seriously though best pass to date was 12.7@119. Wherever the hell the time slip is. Time to run real times with real tires this year :)

Mulenax 03-28-2014 11:16 PM

anybody actually make less power going from a stock TMIC to a FMIC? I had no idea that my old bag'O ice trick would be more efficient at the dragstrip than my new FMIC setup. now on the street fooling around its MUCH BETTER but at the track I cant seem to get the bats down to where they used to be without being a moron and boosting around the return road then hauling ass to the staging lanes and hoping the cool air stays in the car.

btw, this is in a ms6 at the 1/8th mile instead of the QTR mile so I don't have as much time to suck up cool air while going down the track. its all about the launch at the 1.8th mile and im going slower now that ive gone FMIC and its killing me..... ugh!

Get jbr thermal insulating gaskets.
Maybe spray some methanol.
Post a slip.

I just saw the throttle body gasket jbr spacer thingie that jbr sells last night and I think for $30 bux I can handle that.

I have absolutely no experience with meth on disi cars, what are some good kits?

lemme see if I can find a slip that doesn't suck.

last Thursday I ran a 8.7sumthing with a 1.85 60ft at 81mph but I cant find the slip anywhere. my goal is to eventually run a 12.99 at the 1/4mile or a time equivalent to it at the 1/8th mile.

Get the coolant bypass and manifold ones too.
Big difference.

thanks, I REALLY hope you aren't screwing with me, ive seen these kind of "gizmo's" on mustangs and other cars and they never seem to work. but I will trust you and order em next time I get some cash. I think I will do at least 2 of both to make them as thick as possible. has anyone done that? or has every one just done 1 of each? jbr says you can do up to 4...

So why did you decide to go with such a short tire? Wouldn't the 26" help keep you in the k04 power band even more?

I was just wanting to try a different setup. I haven't had a chance to try the 26" tires since I've had the spring bags installed, prob try that next.
