I tried but no cigar, no 12s bitches!!!

well, we went to fontana this morning , JCMS07, dooderek and I (hnda etr joined us later but just to watch us fail).

I bought double tech cards because this place is such a pos operation that u can go home with 2 passes in 8 hrs and no one sees anything wrong.... anyways I made 9 passes.

the good.....

nothing lol

the bad......

well, this is about as close as I got to a 12.99 lol

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/...27/fail004.jpg

I gave up on powershifting, the clutch wont allow it and neither will it allow it on JCMS07's car..... fuck ACT. I am not a fast shifter , so without powershifting the car sort of hesitates from the drop in boost between the gears....

I finally figured out that my launches were too soft and rolling out of the hole to then floor it.... I changed it up on the last 3 runs and tried 4k... 4200 and finally 4500 and aggressive input off the line...car hooked well for an unprepped track and all 3 60fts were below 2.0...

the really bad.... my car wont accelerate beyond 3k rpm now.... clutch took a massive beating from 9 passes on slicks in 6-7hrs.... on the way home I had to short shift it below 3k to drive normal..... I hope the clutch cools and gets some of the grab back.... if not, looks like clutch v3 coming up..... fuck, I know the risks so no point in whinning.... sucks balls nonetheless.

as it stands right now im not sure how good bakersfield (famoso raceway) is looking for me next month, if the clutch doesnt get better im just gonna short shift the fucker for a while.

anyways, Julio will have some video links later of some of our fail..... I got the burnout pretty good and the launch so so.... after the 60ft is where I completely failed.

oh well.

p.s. oh, im 1196 lol.... same number as always

********** edited

heres derek.... motherfucker comes in fucken pajamas to the track and walks around like this....pretty fucken funny.

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/...ny127/stig.jpg

but not as funny as his 1/4 mile pass..... (his mods are stage 2 AP car basically)

16.1 @91mph..... 2.5xx 60ft lol

this is my fastest (not quickest) pass of the day..... 13.6 @ 108..... 60ft 2.1xxx (still not launching hard, more like rolling out of it)

here is more weaksauce launching....still keeping 2.1 to 2.2 60ft cuz im not inputting the throttle aggressively enough

13.4 @ 107 2.2 60ft

here JCMS07 (julio) vs me

his 13.4@108 vs my 13.3 @106..... 2.2 60ft ...... im still at this point not realizing that my launching isnt aggressive enough

here is me vs a cobra... i miss the 2-3 shift.....

13.8 @ 103

here is the first pass after reviewing what I realized I was doing wrong on launches....(rolling out too softly rather than coming into the throttle harder and quicker)

julio vs me again

his 14.3 @ 102 (missed a gear) vs my quickest pass of the day 13.1 @106.xx 1.960ft

after this pass the next and last 2 for the day were 1.9 60fts as well..... basically 2 major things I was doing incorrectly, my burnouts , because they are first gear and dont generate enough heat needed to last longer.... and my launches increased to 4k, 4200 and 4500 and practically went WOT immediately after slipping the clutch out of the hole..... it worked.

unfortunately, my fears for doing 1st gear burnouts were realized on my last pass when after 3rd gear the car would not hold the power and slipped above 3k rpm.

I just woke up and went to text out the car, 1st and 2nd gear grab a little better.....i took the car to 45mph (around 3700rpm) in 3rd and went wot and it held up until about 4200rpm and then it zoomed to redline...... so cooling it off unfortunately didn't add much to the grip of the clutch.

looks like im gonna be reving hard and going nowhere fast lol.... I am going to try to deglaze the clutch by doing a few grind outs and cool offs to see if I can take a lil off the top and at least make the car a little more drivable.... either way oh fucken well.... pay to play niggah.

considering that my best run in january was a 13.4 i realistically expected a 13.2 of improvement and a 13.1 at best...and it happened so overall leaving bs aside I am content with the progress....sux about the clutch but ehh.

EDIT*********************

went out this morning to test the clutch, and its fried....wont hold 3rd gear beyond 3800 or so.....

in the next few days I am going to try to ghetto grind the flywheel and clutch by holding the e brake and letting the clutch slip for a few controlled seconds at a time between cool downs, hopefully this might take enough material to rough up both surfaces and get a little grab back. needless to say this couch is fucked so car will be put putting for a while me thinks.

on the positive side, no way im blowing up now with no load on the engine hahahahahah 150k miles here i come!!

here are more vids.

missed a gear or two lol

this was the nail in the coffin ...... my trap in the 8th was 6mph lower, clutch slipped really bad... if u look at the car u can tell when it stops accelerating at the same rate.

here is hung with basic bolt ons.....

here is julio wrapping up the ms3 fail with an impressive run

here is an e46 m3 ...... if u wanna go fast...dont come to fontana nigga...shit wont happen

this is one of like 5 caliber srt4s ..... some stage 1 and some stage 2.... best time for their best was 13.8 at 103 or some shit lol......

here is a first....lambo at our track. apparently they run better if u stab at the brakes right at the 1000ft mark lol

some srt8 action.... meh

predapio 02-05-2011 08:29 PM

Hey lenny, at least you try...you'll get 12's the next time.

Haltech 02-05-2011 08:32 PM

Wow, that ACT clutch is so fucking fail. Im calling them on monday dude.

rodrigo 02-05-2011 08:37 PM

meh.... if the clutch doesn't go back to normal by tomorrow night I am pretty much done for a long while i think. I gotta buy the house in the next month or two and i cant be fucking around with this car anymore.

but im not upset , I told everyone i expected 13.2s since that was the logical progression from my previous runs and i accomplished it.... im not a lil kid that dreams of 12s and expects miracles.... my car is slow, will always be slow... and i apparently suck pretty bad at fwd manuals so no sense in expecting results that aren't meant for me.

at this point my clutch > elapsed time

there are worse things out there than burned clutches

ill tell u this.... not like im looking for a refund or any such bullshit since i put slicks on and did 9 burnouts and hard launches in 6-7hrs i always assuemd the risks....no different than popping an axle, but i would never recommend this piece of shit clutch to anyone.... I dont give 2 shits what anyone says about how good they are.... product is junk, car is harder to shift, wont allow powershifting, and the street disk dont hold shit more than the oem clutch.

i only got it because everyone told me to stay away from spec... and I have never personally used manual transmissions in any of my cars except a muncie m-22 long time ago and i 4get if the clutch was mcleod or w/e the fuck it was ...so idk shit about clutches.

automatics > manuals

fuck act

Cataphract_40 02-05-2011 09:43 PM

well shit. are you gonna buy an OEM clutch and throw it on there?

Darksun280 02-05-2011 10:00 PM

me and you would be a good run. wish i lived closer

PunjabiPlaya 02-05-2011 10:02 PM

time for weight loss mod

rear seat, passenger seat, spare tire, driver's diet, clothes, hair, etc...

rigor 02-05-2011 10:05 PM

you would have the heavier flywheel oem which is needed to get the heap moving, smooths the shit out ( all the problems your having), atc is junk 100%
sorry my nigga

lightened flywheels are for the auto x shit! not drag racin....

yeah, news to me..im completely ignorant as to manuals, ive built dozens of 'glides, hydramatics but manuals dont belong in drag racing so i never took the time to learn

JBThrasher22 02-05-2011 10:12 PM

Sorry to hear it , maybe you will get there after you get the house and shit straight. Block will go and you will have to build it then you can shoot for 11's instead of 12's.

Sorry you had to find out how bad ACT shit really is, why I do not use their clutches in my cars anymore.

Anyway sorry and best of luck next time I guess. Still not bad for a slow ms3 :P heh

hung380 02-05-2011 11:12 PM

It was nice meeting u guys and thanks for the tip.
At least you had fun. Hopefully you'll make it out to Bakersfield next month. I still need lots of practice. Lol
Low 13 is very good for not power shifting I see 12s coming your way very soon :-)
You can do it Lenny!

ya, im busting my ass man..... i need to drop more than i would care to admit, but i am pretty serious and dedicated to it, 1350 calories of low fat a day and 5 days a week of higher intensity medium load weight lifting.... I am very very happy with my progress and hopefully end of year I can resemble something a little closer to a human being lol

daddy needs a gf and will be hunting time soon me thinks.

SgtP 02-06-2011 01:13 AM

all these people telling you that you can do it is the problem. you need some negative reinforcement. Fuck 12's, you will never see them. They werent meant for you. You will never be able to pull off 12's. Not even with that BT! Now prove me wrong and thank me later...Hard love. I hate it but I have to do it.

rodrigo 02-06-2011 01:22 AM

lol josh. i get into the character man, but i sincerely can assure u i dont give a shit about 12s man..... what's important to me is to have a fast car, which i clearly do not have lol

running a 12 or this or that is just amusing and something fun to try to work towards, but to me having a car that i can fuck with most cars out there is 99.9% of what drives me to mod this vehicle.

so whats the word on 'tina and the evo hunting? she going tomorrow or....... i can prolly still take a couple of hours after the gym if the car allows to lend a hand if needed (although i cant test drive an evo... they have bucket seats and.... well... do the math hahaha)

ill check this thread in the morning

Dash08 02-06-2011 03:32 AM

You may not realize it man, but you've been on a solid path of improvement since you started this venture. Though you stayed consistent at times, you did manage to improve even if only in small increments.

That last launch was fucking great. You just rocketed right out of the hole. Good shit man.

Monotonous ONE 02-06-2011 06:04 AM

granny shiftin

not double clutchin like your sposed to

SgtP 02-06-2011 07:28 AM

lenny im not 100% sure about what she plans on doing. we might get any beater and Ill just suck it up until my car gets back from the east coast. It shouldnt be for long anyways. Kevin might have to drive me up to NATOR HQ though if he still lives down by me. I cant steal the wifes car for a whole day. Unless she lets me take it to the track....

802MS3 02-06-2011 08:22 AM

sorry buddy, sucks about the clutch. just blame it on the track, you did fine.

crazy about the dieting, good job on that. resistance training is the best way to shed pounds and lean up.

oh i know tony, i have been drag racing since 1990 and a tenth here and a mph there is the only way u improve, i am pleased with the progress. this fwd manual business i have to admit is alot more involved than what i was used to......when u have a trans lock with an automatic and 29 inch tall 10 inch wide slicks its usually more about the set up than the driver......

but time to adapt i guess.

ty. weightlifting is the only exercise that i am proficient at and therefore my only guaranteed method i will stay with the program.

I had it shipped to the east coast because thats were my wife was for most of my deployment. Then she just left it at cpe and had hers shipped back to CA. Im hoping to get some of their new shit that came out while I was gone. mounts and shit.

rodrigo 02-06-2011 08:35 AM

2 weeks for those to be released josh , hahaha

when do u get back exactly to cali? we ll def do a bbq nig

SgtP 02-06-2011 09:28 AM

Early march i will be home for sure. The MM are just a start. I cant wait to get back to the track. Only thing besides my family that I really miss out here.

rodrigo 02-06-2011 09:46 AM

its california man.... wtf else is there to miss here? the mexicans?

Cataphract_40 02-06-2011 09:47 AM

soooo lenny...what is your plan for a replacement clutch?

rigor 02-06-2011 09:49 AM

is it only 3rd your having a problem's with? the sincros are not tolerant of missed shifts, i lightly ground 2nd about 10 times then no second gear the sincros are 3 piece super thin hunks of shit!

a one piece sincro would be way more rugged imho...
i think some one was working on some, but i haven't seen the thread in a while.....

lost in the crash

none at the moment, i edited the OP with what I will be trying to do to get some clutch life back. (basically slipping the clutch to scuff the flywheel and clutch to hopefully de glaze it).... i seriously doubt all clutch material can be worn in one fucken day!!! then again..fuck act lol

no no nigor rigor, 3rd gear is just what I test the clutch slippage with because 1st and 2nd cant generate enough load for the clutch to slip enough.

as u get higher up in gears the clutch slips more easily...... I suspect the clutch is pretty badly glazed, I cannot believe the friction material would wear out in one day of abuse..I dont see that happening.

so.... I am doing the ole ghetto grind, yank e brake.... put car in first, bring rpms up above peak tq, let go of clutch some until the rpms drop a hair and let the fucker grind off material from flywheel and clutch (repeat process a few times after complete cool down).... let's see if this scuffs it up enough to grab better.

if that dont work, ill be driving it like this for a while..... car behaves perfectly, just cant go above tq peak in 3rd and up lol....

what? you thought u were the only niggah raised in a swamp?

rigor 02-06-2011 10:01 AM

the sincros are a kinda a brake, to slow the gears down to complete a shift, and it doesn't take a lot of abuse to wear this out,

it will gust not let you shift @ high rpm, it will lock you out till the two gear speeds match, then it will go in to gear

ok, well i thought before you were having 3rd gear lock out problems?

fuck that clutch lol

rodrigo 02-06-2011 10:03 AM

hahah, fuck that clutch indeed man. I should have known , .... I mean yellow??? wtf kinda color is this for a clutch...lol

SgtP 02-06-2011 10:07 AM

lol. so who makes a decent clutch for us?

rodrigo 02-06-2011 10:09 AM

mazda

SgtP 02-06-2011 10:13 AM

makes sense... i have seriously had no problem whatsoever with the stock clutch in our car and I abuse the shit out of it when i shift...

rodrigo 02-06-2011 10:50 AM

updated OP with moaar vids

thanks julio for the camera footage.

rodrigo 02-06-2011 11:52 AM

oh no shit???? so im gonna prolly then just re surface the flywheel and fucken buy that shit. 359 is pretty fucken good.... and not like i make a ton of power.... shit... maybe this is a good thing, i can haz powershifting back????

thanks dan!!!!!!!!!!!!

rigor 02-06-2011 04:04 PM

i had decent luck with luke clutches, i think that is the name? i can check Monday if they offer a replacement clutch for our cars

rodrigo 02-06-2011 04:14 PM

yeah, do that. so far i have ghetto ground the clutch 3 times today..giving it about 3hrs of resting. im hoping this plus normal driving will de glaze it enough for me to smash on corollas again.

rigor 02-06-2011 05:41 PM

i heard you grind the fuck out of 3rd gear lol, it's days are numbered!

rodrigo 02-06-2011 06:19 PM

nah.... now that I am not trying to powershift anymore, missing a gear is unlikely as is grinding them.

i am right now purposely grinding material hopefully both off the flywheel and clutch material to de glaze.

i really should make a video.... i floor it in 3rd at 3800 and the fucken needle moves like if the fucker was in neutral.

rfinkle2 02-06-2011 07:30 PM

weight loss=longer life=more funny posts.

congratulations on losing 42 lbs. Lenny. i read your posts and they crack me up.

sorry about your clutch, btw.

rodrigo 02-06-2011 07:34 PM

LOL

rodrigo 02-07-2011 12:25 AM

alright, well i did the standard de glazing procedure.... hold e brake, bring rpm above tq peak, release clutch pedal slowly until it starts dropping rpm and hold for about 10 seconds.

this grinds off material from both clutch and flywheel without over heating because i immediately park the car. did this 3 times today, and then went out for 2 mild 30 mile drives.

car is responding decently, i can drive at 20-25% throttle input in all gears and the car seems to hold the correct speed for the rpm. i will keep driving no more than 25% throttle for another 200 miles or so.

once that is done , i will try again going more aggressively to see if it actually holds the gear under WOT conditions. not looking good...but ill know by end of week.

i still dont think the clutch is gone, i think its super glazed and just cannot provide enough friction to hold peak torque.....if i let go of the clutch in first it still grabs at the same rate in low rpm.... so i have to believe it still has life.

we ll see.... ill post results.

SgtP 02-07-2011 03:01 AM

fuck ACT

superskaterxes 02-07-2011 04:56 AM

hmmmmmmm i dont understand this, are you on the street disc or 6 puck?

my OEM clutch never hated me at the track and ive made LOTS of passes at 400+ wtq. im also doing 4.5k launches on awd would is WAYYYYY worse for a clutch because you have no wheel slip to take some abuse off the clutch. when you say the ACT wont let you power shift, why arent you using FFS?

glad to see you made some progress man but your slowly falling into dark lips territory haha.

SgtP 02-07-2011 05:27 AM

I plan on staying stock until the clutch will no longer engage in first gear...

rodrigo 02-07-2011 11:34 AM

seriously josh, its up to u now to represent cali. cuz julio and i are stuck on slow. the only other good car will be roys cuz hes getting built. but i think slicks and BT on u would be epic win.

dooderek 02-07-2011 12:30 PM

??? wat about me??

what happened to julios car on the last run, did he poop off the coupler?

rodrigo 02-07-2011 12:44 PM

nh he couldnt get into second gear..... im telling u...ACT clutches are dogshit.

dooderek 02-07-2011 12:46 PM

on the drive to carls j man, fuck, forget about exhaust drone that chatter is intense

rodrigo 02-07-2011 12:47 PM

the noise is unbearable, why u think i sold him the trz tranny m.

SgtP 02-07-2011 09:05 PM

lol you guys are silly. I will come back from 1 year without my car and run a 12.9 on the k04 to save Cali Speeds. Dont worry. I have it all planned out.

b00b00 02-28-2011 10:57 PM

when you hitting up famoso? I',, be down to meet up, but can't run since fuel pump went bye bye
