MS3 13.1 @ 103 w/ DP, I, and DR's

Yea yea I know this car isnt for drag racing-blah blah but I have fun doing it and got this car very close to the 12's with only a stainless works catless dp and Cobb SRI for power mods. Other mods include SU MM, TWM shifter, H&R springs, and 16" V6 mustang wheels with 225/50-16 Hoosier DR's. I accidentally ran the dr's at 24 psi (dont ask) and didnt know until I got home so I know I can better the 60ft. No other mods whatsoever and stock boost. I must admit I am very impressed with this car coming from nothing but rwd V8's. This car was supposed to be just a daily driver to get decent mileage but owning a shop its very hard not to screw around with what you drive. Anyways heres some pics along with the last dyno pulls I did with before and after the dp.

You talking about the side mounts? I check them every time I have the car on the lift but yea Ive read all the horror stories. If this is what your talking about which ones do you recommend?

I am also going to try out the WOT box and the correct tire press sometime next week to hopefully crack 12's.

spheed3 03-24-2009 08:54 PM

Very nice number man that's the right way to do things

i would wait for the cpe sides and get the cpe rear.

DaleNixon 03-24-2009 09:05 PM

TRZ mounts ain't too bad either! I love mine!

Mustang wheels fit the MS3? I wonder what MS3 wheels look like on a Mustang!

Decepticon 03-24-2009 09:06 PM

nice...i think that maybe the fastest time with intake/downpipe/dr's only...

cm-jp1 03-25-2009 12:59 AM

thats a nice time.. Similiar to one my my 13.1 runs with my ms6.. Except the 60' of course

ms3077 03-25-2009 03:21 AM

This just goes on farther to prove that traction is most certainly one of the main issues with this car in regards to achieving a fast ET. Great run man!

Fa5t 03-25-2009 03:32 AM

Awesome! Have any video of this run?

buddhabum 03-25-2009 03:44 AM

So far I've been hearing great stories from just adding the TurbineTech Front motor mount in regards to engine stabilization.

johnnyspeed6 03-25-2009 04:01 AM

and this is without any tunes or flashes ?.. ( didnt see any in your write up )

Saw this on 24/7:
FMOS Racing - 1.858, 8.415@84.07, 13.080@107.55, (I, MM, DR), 750' ASL.
I dont know why more people dont run the ms3 with slicks.

Fa5t 03-25-2009 05:59 AM

^ Thats what I was planning on doing, next time I go to Cecil.

MGMSIII 03-25-2009 06:23 AM

Sorry no video but I will try to get something next time I go. And no there is no tuning whatsoever, stock boost, etc.

I am wondering how much abuse these axles can take also but TruBoost seems to be testing that just fine.

Super X 03-25-2009 06:53 AM

Nice run! Good to see fellow So. FL people running good :-) I might be heading to PBI Raceway on friday..

Just for clarification, on the graph that you put up the 276whp stock and 286whp with wai and dp?

Nice run.
If you can remember, were you flat shifting on that run? What rpm did you launch from and what were your shift points?

275 fwh with just an intake sounds high:popworm:

Sweet I never see any other speeds there-I will be there if I have the WOT box by then. The 276 pull was with Cobb intake and 286 with I,DP.

Yea I flatshifted on all my runs and best launch was about 3500 slipping the clutch briefly-basically almost a clutch dump. I shifted between 5500-5700.
I thought the numbers looked a little high too but my previous best with just intake and mm on stock tires was 13.7 @ 105 so the track times seem to prove the dyno #'s. Freak car I guess :eek5:

lidokrantz 03-25-2009 07:46 AM

freaks FTW !!! nice run dude, you must be a good driver !!!...stock tune, stock boost......indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! was explaining the Speed to a local business owner of a gas station in NJ where i take my sons Maxima for work......yesterday the owner John talked about his Chevy Nova...9.45 at Englishtown last year.... his trophy and picture was in the local paper.....maybe i should let him work on my Speed..LOL..

Nice run...12's should be in your near future.

I am going to Ennis next month here in Dallas, and will run with the DR's... Also, by then I will have my FMIC, DP, and AP installed..Hoping I break 12's on my first run..

MGMSIII 03-25-2009 07:30 PM

Anyone have any results from using a WOT box? I will be testing this out probably next fri at the track and I have heard claims of 2-3 tenths improvement but just wanted to get some first hand experiences. thanks

schwenk 03-26-2009 06:21 AM

On your run with the stock tires, did you also launch at 3500? or did you go somewhere lower?

I ordered the damn thing a week ago direct from n2mb and still not even a shipping notice. Test and tune at the track here is wed and fri nights so as soon as it gets here I will be back at the track. Sucks that its getting alot hotter quick though.

Stock tires run was launched at 3000 slipping the shit out of the clutch and power shifting every gear except 2nd. That netted a 2.09 60 ft.

wisniaPl 03-30-2009 09:07 PM

how do you like those drs?? i want to get mine soon but cant decide which one to get I want to get more than 2k from them....gona be daily driving on drs this summer

racebitz 03-31-2009 04:10 AM

Great time for the mods, no need for a big mod list to run good times, just traction and a good drive. Hoping to be first 12sec MPS in Aus once my QTP's arrive. Goin to make a lot of people eat their words while im at it too.. OOh yeah LOL.

I would not recommend daily driving on these tires. They are far too soft and I would compare them to Mickey Thompson ET streets. For what you need I would stick to some Nitto 555R's or BFG DR's.

oneslowxa 04-01-2009 05:51 PM

Great driving and sick times!

how many miles are on your clutch/car so far and approximately how many passes do you have?

I need to start gauging my clutch life lol...

Just turned 16k miles and one year old yesterday. I would say I have around 20 passes total and when I was on stock tires that clutch would start smelling horrible at the track and would stink up my garage for 2-3 days but no slipping whatsoever and pedal feel is fine.

btw WOT box should be here today and install and new track times hopefully tomorrow!

oneslowxa 04-02-2009 09:29 AM

how many 1.9 passes did you cut? I feel that the ms3's clutch starts to smell at anything around 2.1x's or better...

MGMSIII 04-02-2009 11:37 AM

I had 3 passes in the 1.9's. 1.95,1.95 and 1.91. Clutch wasnt bad that night at all bc I wasnt slipping it that much due to the DR's.

MGMSIII 04-03-2009 07:58 PM

Well got the WOT box hooked up and works great and had the DR's mounted and ready to go and as I pulled in the track it started pouring so no go on gettin 12's. Maybe next week...

ms3jake 04-03-2009 08:44 PM

Bummer

sleeper3 04-28-2009 03:00 PM

dude let me know when you plan to go next! I will join you. It will be nice to have another respectable MS3 out there!

FMOS racing ran 12.9 with just a CAI/MM/DR's. But these times are still very good.

It just shows the best mod to this car is a good driver.

I think your high trap speeds are indicative of flat shifting more than a "freak" car. Flat shifting will increase your trap speeds and decrease ET's everytime.

Also, the high dyno numbers don't mean much without knowing other information about the dyno, correction factors, etc.

No doubt your car is putting out a lot of horsepower for your mods, but I wil say it again with this car, DR's or better and a good driver are the two most important things to running fast ET's.

I see a lot of people throw tons of mods at their car, still run street tires, and and can't get near these times you are running.

Yup, lol when he goes against that 9.0sec car, his ms3 looks slow. Traction is the worst enemy for this car. Imagine if he had a bigger turbo...

802MS3 05-14-2009 08:15 AM

^^damn! thats crazy. he should come over here and start a thread.

I wonder if he only has the rear MM, because I would think he'd snap his trans mount doing launches like that.

I read a thread over on 247 where he explained his techniques in more detail. He runs FD RX-7 wheels, MT or Hoosier 225/50/16 DR's, powershifts the whole way. He only has an Injen CAI/ and rear motor mount, not sure what type or durometer though.

To pre-stage, he puts it in 2nd gear, bounces it off the rev-limiter and dumps the clutch to heat up the DR's. From there, he just goes on experience because he has been racing for like 20 years or something. He said he launches around 3 slipping the clutch.

That's all I remember from his post from 247, I'll try to dig it up and post everything he wrote if anyone is interested.

ms3jake 05-14-2009 06:43 PM

Sounds abusive but impressive none the less .

YouTube - Bolt-on Mazdaspeed 3 doing IRP

His tires allow him to use the torque this little car produces.

I wounder if he's doing this all on stock shifter bushings.

man im thinkin about full motor mount set up with drag radials now...im one of maybe 3 speed 3's in alaska racing an i only have 3 events all summer were i live then have to drive 460miles to my nearest track...so hopefully i will be able to keep up with you in times by the end of summer on minimal mods...im runnin 13.7 @ 100.23mph dumping at 2900-3000 rpm on MSCAI and SU rear MM on stock clutch w/ 24kmiles and 30+ passes and original tires that came on the car when purchased with 17 miles...

Mike Bove 05-30-2009 05:03 PM

I think an aftermarket tranny clutch is a must if you're going to be racing a lot. It really makes a difference.

FMOS needs to add some more mods, I want to see him running low 12's!

94jedi 05-30-2009 08:52 PM

screw this...I"m getting a set of FD RX-7 wheels. anyone know the cheapest place to find them?

and who has the best pricing on some hoosier or nitto dr's?

1mpg 06-01-2009 05:51 PM

I got my 555Rs for under $300, heat cycled too! I put mine on Mustang wheels. We will see what happens soon!

1mpg 06-27-2009 04:55 PM

No good times yet, same as before...I dont think I am heating up my tires enough. Is it safe to start the burn out in second gear? how long should I redline this shit for? I redline in first for about 5 seconds before I go, and it does nothing impressive. And only launching at 3K seems low, but I guess I will try it again. Otherwise these will be on sale after next track day. I cant afford new trannies, clutches and axles.

sleeper3 06-29-2009 06:03 AM
