how many 1.9 passes did you cut? I feel that the ms3's clutch starts to smell at anything around 2.1x's or better...

MGMSIII 04-02-2009 11:37 AM

I had 3 passes in the 1.9's. 1.95,1.95 and 1.91. Clutch wasnt bad that night at all bc I wasnt slipping it that much due to the DR's.

MGMSIII 04-03-2009 07:58 PM

Well got the WOT box hooked up and works great and had the DR's mounted and ready to go and as I pulled in the track it started pouring so no go on gettin 12's. Maybe next week...

ms3jake 04-03-2009 08:44 PM

Bummer

sleeper3 04-28-2009 03:00 PM

dude let me know when you plan to go next! I will join you. It will be nice to have another respectable MS3 out there!

FMOS racing ran 12.9 with just a CAI/MM/DR's. But these times are still very good.

It just shows the best mod to this car is a good driver.

I thought the numbers looked a little high too but my previous best with just intake and mm on stock tires was 13.7 @ 105 so the track times seem to prove the dyno #'s. Freak car I guess :eek5:

I think your high trap speeds are indicative of flat shifting more than a "freak" car. Flat shifting will increase your trap speeds and decrease ET's everytime.

Also, the high dyno numbers don't mean much without knowing other information about the dyno, correction factors, etc.

No doubt your car is putting out a lot of horsepower for your mods, but I wil say it again with this car, DR's or better and a good driver are the two most important things to running fast ET's.

I see a lot of people throw tons of mods at their car, still run street tires, and and can't get near these times you are running.

Yup, lol when he goes against that 9.0sec car, his ms3 looks slow. Traction is the worst enemy for this car. Imagine if he had a bigger turbo...

^^damn! thats crazy. he should come over here and start a thread.

I wonder if he only has the rear MM, because I would think he'd snap his trans mount doing launches like that.

I read a thread over on 247 where he explained his techniques in more detail. He runs FD RX-7 wheels, MT or Hoosier 225/50/16 DR's, powershifts the whole way. He only has an Injen CAI/ and rear motor mount, not sure what type or durometer though.

To pre-stage, he puts it in 2nd gear, bounces it off the rev-limiter and dumps the clutch to heat up the DR's. From there, he just goes on experience because he has been racing for like 20 years or something. He said he launches around 3 slipping the clutch.

That's all I remember from his post from 247, I'll try to dig it up and post everything he wrote if anyone is interested.

Sounds abusive but impressive none the less .

DaleNixon 05-14-2009 08:44 PM

Pretty much drag racing summed up right there, no?

YouTube - Bolt-on Mazdaspeed 3 doing IRP

His tires allow him to use the torque this little car produces.

I wounder if he's doing this all on stock shifter bushings.

I am also going to try out the WOT box and the correct tire press sometime next week to hopefully crack 12's.

man im thinkin about full motor mount set up with drag radials now...im one of maybe 3 speed 3's in alaska racing an i only have 3 events all summer were i live then have to drive 460miles to my nearest track...so hopefully i will be able to keep up with you in times by the end of summer on minimal mods...im runnin 13.7 @ 100.23mph dumping at 2900-3000 rpm on MSCAI and SU rear MM on stock clutch w/ 24kmiles and 30+ passes and original tires that came on the car when purchased with 17 miles...

Mike Bove 05-30-2009 05:03 PM

I think an aftermarket tranny clutch is a must if you're going to be racing a lot. It really makes a difference.

FMOS needs to add some more mods, I want to see him running low 12's!

94jedi 05-30-2009 08:52 PM

screw this...I"m getting a set of FD RX-7 wheels. anyone know the cheapest place to find them?

and who has the best pricing on some hoosier or nitto dr's?

1mpg 06-01-2009 05:51 PM

I got my 555Rs for under $300, heat cycled too! I put mine on Mustang wheels. We will see what happens soon!

1mpg 06-27-2009 04:55 PM

No good times yet, same as before...I dont think I am heating up my tires enough. Is it safe to start the burn out in second gear? how long should I redline this shit for? I redline in first for about 5 seconds before I go, and it does nothing impressive. And only launching at 3K seems low, but I guess I will try it again. Otherwise these will be on sale after next track day. I cant afford new trannies, clutches and axles.

sleeper3 06-29-2009 06:03 AM

lol

If at first you don't succeed, give up!

Torque South 07-22-2009 01:12 PM

good job very impressive
