Default WTF?!?!?! I can't launch!!!!

Ok, so back from last nights test and tune and the best 60ft I could muster was a 2.400 WTF!

best mph was a 97.81, best ET of the night was a 14.889 @ 96.95 with a 2.412 60 ft.
edit - that et came with about 25 psi in the fronts. first 3 runs were with 35 in the fronts, normal street pres.

I'll scan the 4 slips later today...

WTF can I do to get a better 60ft?!?!?!? Mods on the car right now are MSCAI, AP Stg1 + MSCAI, CS MM.

This is really getting frustrating. I've made 7 passes in this car now and I still can get a decent time.

If your running regular street tires make sure you avoid the water box and do not do a smokey burnout. You can spin the tires a couple times to get any debris of them but making them smoke is a waist of good tread. I know lowering the air pressure a little may assist in traction but remember regular street tires have been engineered to run best at a certain psi. If you raise or lower that psi to much you are effectively changing the contact patch. This could allow you to sacrifice some traction. Just play with the air pressure in 1/2 pound increments until you find the sweet spot. FWD cars are by far the hardest to launch so lots of practice will help out a ton. I am sorry if you already know most of this but I am sure with time and practice your 60ft times will drop. Get some slicks and really watch them drop.

i think it all does come down to practice. also a good 1/2 shift. if you have a DH just find somewhere you can log some 0-60 runs and take a look at the logs. when i had just an intake, my best 0-60 was slipping the clutch at 2k, feathering the throttle in 1st to minimize spin and shifting into 2 early at ~5400. Feather 2nd till spin is gone and then foot to the floor for the 2-3-4-5 shifts.

thanks for the tips guys...I think not going WOT in 1st and partially 2nd (esp after the 1/2 shift) is key. On one run, I blew away the tires through 3/4 of 2nd. No wheel hop, no drama, just spin. A kid watching said he saw them actually smoke lol.

I definitely avoid the water box as best as I can. I was basically bouncing the revs between 1800 and 2300 then dropping the clutch and trying to mitigate wheel spin w/ the throttle but obviously having zero luck at it.

I did try a short shift (5400rpm) into 2nd and damn if it didn't feel good but it didn't produce any better time in any part of the 1/4 mi.

+1.... I've seen as fast as a 5.2 0-60 on my DH doing that

Jed, you would probably be a good candidate for VHT.. Seeing as you are still learning how to drive the car, this may help you out.

You can buy a 1 gallon jug of it from summit or jegs..

When you get to the track, have a buddy running out with a squirt bottle a puddling it in front of your tires AFTER you drive around the water box.. Than do a light burnout in it for 5 seconds and move to the line. This may get you into the 2.1 to 2.0 territory.

Just remember, to wash the car within 12 hrs of using it because it splatters up on the paint and is a pain in the ass to get off.

that's a thought Haltech....VHT...really the track should use it for prep.

Hell, maybe I'll try the Cecil mod if I can get Chris and a few other semi-locals to come out to Cecil's Dragstrip.

fuck the et...ure mph is far off, which cobb map version are you running. Intake and a flash that ups boost you should be in the 103-105 range
yea, I fucked up not shifting to 5th. I'm a hair away from redline when I cross the finish in 4th. I was so focused on 60ft that I forgot to try 5th on my next few runs.

I'm down whenever...just let me know. I might even take the initiative and try to organize something...

Let me ask you a question. Do you have your clutch pedal all the way to the floor when you stage? If so then by the time the clutch gets to the ingadgement point your rpms are about 1500-2000 higher then before. you should have the pedal to the point where you can almost feel the car vibrating and then stage it. If you learn how to slip the clutch then you can launch it higher than some 2000 rpms. I know it is a little harder with a speed3 but i my best time for my speed in the 60 is a 1.71. I launch at 4000-4500

As for shifting I shift my speed6 at 5800, well that is going to change now that i can shift at 6500 now, but i lost 1.5 mph when i took 4th to redline.

actually, yes, I push the clutch all the way in. I figured I was losing precious time because there is some travel before the clutch reaches the friction point. I was going to try pre-loading w/ the e-brake like laloosh once suggested. I think next time, I'm going to experiment w/ a few different methods. I have a WOT box now too so I feel a little more comfortable about flat shifting.

I also made the mistake of taking 4th to redline across the finish. I was pissed that the AP was only giving me ~ 1 mph better trap which could easily be human error or some other variable. Is there a gearing difference in the 3/6 tranny's? I guess the final drive plays a role as well. I'm just wondering if there's a way to accurately see how much trap mph I lost by redlining 4th across the finish line.
