Default Breaking spark plugs

I have a 2008 mazda 3mps. After a week of spluttering and holding back under load I changed all plugs and coil packs. Nothing changed really, cleaned maf sensor, was a little better. Another 3 weeks off this and I checked the plugs again.
3 were broken and split on the ceramic and 1 was OK. Changed all the plugs and is now running about 100%.
Any idea on the plug scenario??

Tightened them too much or mishandled on install.

What brand of plugs? What heat range and gap? Any aftermarket mods or tune that might play a role?

Used to be a common issue with denso plugs.

These were NGK plugs and mechanic says they came with pre set gap.!!
I think we all know what that smell is??
I had denso's in previously but the tips used to burn away after a while.
I must hold my hands up to a ropey re map at one point, but I did myself off it with a new ecu!!
