Default MS6 P2006 CEL just came on

Driving home last night in 5th gear and my CEL came on. Went out this afternoon to autozone and they pulled a P2006 code. I've been looking around online and on the forums, seems like its the Intake Manifold Runner Control. Unfortunately, my mechanic is out for about a week or 2 on sick leave, so I'm unable to take it to him. Anyone have some insight on this code and if it's safe to drive daily to/from work? I really don't want to take it to Mazda since they'll charge up the ass..

Update: So I just went on mazda's website to check my VIN for recalls. Of the 3 that came up, it says that Mazda Recall #: 4807H - regarding the P2006 has ALREADY been completed. This is the description as follows:
Recall Description: PCM Reprogramming for DTC P2006. The shutter valve actuator may not fully depress the position switch, especially in cold
ambient temperatures.
Repair Description: Dealers will reprogram the PCM to include the latest calibration, and replace the variable swirl shutter valve actuator with a
modified one, free of charge.

Do you guys know if I go to Mazda if they will repair and fix this even though it has been done in the past?

Curious, if you got mazda to do something about it. Just got the CEL myself out of the blue.

Are you decently mechanically inclined?

Pop the actuator arm off the runner control and see if there is corrosion/rust causing it to stick at times. Dab some grease on it and start working the actuator. Chances are the ECM is seeing a slight stick issue.

If the recall has already been done you are SOL. Myself, working at a Mazda dealer I can almost guarantee that they will cheat and lie to you to fork over cash. Mazda dealers have a bad rep. I have heard terrible things from the Michigan Miata club, our own NATOR, ect.

THanks for the help, I'll check it out tomorrow, since you mentioned corrosion and my car is fast becoming a rust bucket, that's most certainly my problem.

So I went to the dealership to check the issue after replacing the valve with my mechanic (uncle), and they said it has nothing to do with the swirl valve. Apparently there's a lever that touches a sensor to let my car know it's warming up (correct me if I'm wrong), and that lever is snapped in half. They said they've seen one other speed owner with this problem, because I can't just order the lever. I'd have to glue an a extension onto that lever to allow it to hit the sensor, otherwise I'm spending 1500$ on a new manifold (yet another way for them to rob me of $$$).

So I have the car at my uncle's house since I'm in Connecticut for a couple days. He's going to see if he can fix / attach something to the arm. They gave me an exploded view of the diagram but it doesn't do my problem much justice. Does this seem accurate to you? I'm 3 months over due inspection, already failed, and really need this to get solved.

Yeah the only way Mazda sells it is the complete intake.

I've heard of some people doing a VTCS delete here and tuning the code out. Maybe @rfinkle2; can chime in here for assistance.

You can do the vtcs delete and mechanically maintain everything but the flappers.. that keeps the system happy.

I'm on my phone but you seem to be on the right track.

As far as the codes, there will likely be a not ready notification given through the ecu and if there is a limit to those in your area, without solving it mechanically it may remain a problem without the mechanical trick.
