Default Misfire on Cold Start

so recently ive been getting a P0303 for misfire on cylinder 3. I read a few theads with people who had the same problem and most had fucked up plugs which caused it. i checked this yesterday and swapped for a new plug and still the same thing.

it happens mostly on cold starts as i can hear it sputtering and missing but its not so terrible when it warms up. im almost positive i had this problem when i was on the dyno last week which could explain all that choppiness in my graph.

anyone have any more things i can check? i was gona swap CP's when i get home to see if it follows to another cylinder and i have a spare ign harness i can throw in there. arent there some people with this problem who bought the HKS twin power to get rid of it? (gerry and SS come to mind)

my biggest problem is that its throwing a CEL and i need to pass emissions within a month so i need to get this solved. i bought one of those super fancy expensive code readers to check my I/M readiness codes and it actually shows you the # of detected misfires for each cyl and what pending codes you have which def helps.

It's been a broken plug for me everytime. Different types of breaks each time, but broken nonetheless. I'm assuming you are swapping to good plugs? Hell, even if they are stock heat range, just to start it up and make sure plugs aren't the issue, try a few first. I tried one I thought was good and it still had a misfire. If you are certain plugs aren't it then definitely swap coil packs. When you pull it, check the spring inside to make sure it isn't broken. I don't think anyone has added HK$ for idle issues. I had to add it for blow out and most others did too.

so after reading a TON more threads i have a feeling it could be a bad tank of gas. i dont think ive gotten gas since this problem started and im nearing the bottom of the tank. im gona throw in some lucus fuel cleaner for the lines and such and swap coils and see whats up.

will report back

Still seems strange to only be #3 cylinder.

Instead of replacing plugs, just switch them around. Swap the #3 plug with another, and see if the misfire follows the plug. If not, then do the same with the coils and see if it follows the coil.

swapped the CP's with no dice. but i put a full can of seafoam in an empty tank and filled up with 93. things seem to be slightly better but i still got the code after a cold start. but the more i drive and check the misfire counts after a start the smaller they get.

the car runs flawless at WOT or PT but i can still feel the miss a little at idle. the only thing i can say about the gas is that i was running about 6 gallons of 110 leaded for my dyno last week which made me sketchy about what i had in the tank. im gona run this full tank through and see if i can get rid of it.

Definitely try running through this tank that you just filled up on and get another tank from a station you trust. For me it turned out to just be a really bad tank of gas and I had Cylinder 1 misfire.

Goodluck and hopefully it is just that. If it is...man our cars are little bitches when it comes to gas.

i actually started going to a new BP station cause it was alot cheaper then the 2 shell stations that are right before major highway entrances (obvi a premium for this). my sunocco station got torn down so ive been looking elsewhere and ive always trusted BP.

mhmm. There are only Two stations in my area I trust, Sam's club, and a no-name station, both carry 91, which is good enough. All I can say is screw Massachusetts and their highway service stations.

If the gas fixes it cool I hope so , but if it doesn't do a compression test or if u know someone who works at Mazda ask them to monitor your power balance as well as relative compression. If they all pass they can do an inj flow test from the Mazda ids. A bad spray pattern will Fuck up you idle but wot will be fine.
