Default Periodic Clunking noise at Idle

My speed3 has been making a strange clunking noise periodically at idle. The noise can be heard during both cold starts and after long trips. is this a familiar noise to anyone, the car seems to be driving fine but I'm getting increasingly worried.

The clunk can be heard at around 22 seconds in and just before the 1 minute mark on the video. Thanks again for the help.

Mods? Mileage? Any other issues?

I would take the valve cover off and inspect, take some pictures, sounds a bit like the chain hitting the valve cover. Not really sure though.

Only mods are a mazdaspeed intake which was on before I got the car, and a CPP rear motor mount. Milage is at 150km, I've had the car for a year and bought it at 130km. Had no issues so far. Car pulls hard, engine runs well although it goes through a little bit more oil than normal.

I'm taking the car in on thursday however I wanted to get a narrowed down opinion before I took it in. Do you think I'll get bent over by going to the dealership or should i just stick to a local mechanic?

It sounds like an AC compressor pulley. Take your phone record audio close to the A/C pulley, waterpump pulley, and tensioner pulley. The AC compressor pulley took a shit on my daily 3 and it sounded like the engine was falling apart.

You can try turning AC on/off when the noise happens there should be some change in sound.

Bad news is new AC is like close to $400. Good news is you are going to search and find a thread on how to replace the bearing for $20 and then you can donate to keep the forum alive.

Also, if you don't have a press you might be able to buy pulley with bearing pressed in and a clutch.

But first run those tests and locate where the sound is coming from. Also, here is a diagram to help you locating the specific pulleys.

If all pulleys are ok. You might need to start digging into the motor like the other poster suggested.

2005 Mazda 3 SP23: mods include rusty quarter panels and grinding 3rd gear. It does have a fusion motor, so I guess that's a mod too.
