Samsung vs Apple. Where do you stand?

This is long.. so i don't expect many to actually read it...

Apple, a pathetic company who got 2 chances to remain in today's market.... By Haltech

A little history about me.. im older than most of you... and i grew up as technology advanced.. GUI's were a dream and raw mhz speed was something that never played into the role of a PC.. The math co-processor was the big performance tool on a computer.

Commodore. Probably one of the most innovative companies ever to come out, were based in the UK and had a HEAVY international footprint on all 7 continents. They were also the only company who could eek every ounce of performance from a motorola 68000 16/32-bit processors. Commodore, while building typical 8 bit interfaces on the popular US versions of the Vic20/C64/C128, already had full blown 32bit 68000s running a GUI known as Workbench on an Amiga in 1983. Steve Jobs caught wind of this and went to Xerox where he saw a GUI based copying machine that he heard about that was inspired off a GUI from some computer shown off in England(Amiga). Commodore was still a full 18 months shy of releasing the Amiga worldwide.

He was really excited by what he saw and made the mistake of telling Bill Gates... you know the story from there... skip

So while the two were leveraging each other on the GUI side of things for the PC market, Commodore releases the first Amiga in 1985 while handing Mac its ass on performance. Commodore developed two stand alone chipsets ( Agnus - Video / Paula - Sound ) to offload the powerhouse moto 68x which was fully pipelined. It do could graphics at blinding speed and smoke any PC in its presence... It was over taking MAC in video production, used in broadcast for live weather maps,etc while Atari was owning the studio recording market with an exact duplicate machine. Commodore got big balls due to its success and tried to take on Sega with a game console... the CD32 (32 bit game console).. which failed and bankrupted the company. Apple got its first reprieve and survived, but barely. So.. that was life number one for copy cat, Apple.

Number two reprieve came in the late 90s when moto, ibm and apple were trying to push RISC arch onto the world with the Mac using Power PC. Mhz meant nothing, its all about the pipeline.. Which was true because motos would cook x86 CISC for lumch. At any rate, AMD comes along in 1999 to shatter apples world with the introduction of the first full production hardware backwards compatible X86/X86-64 processor thanks to Alpha. It was ripping both Apple and Intel a new asshole and apple fell again in a coma because Intel woke up and had to start making pipelines count. Apple tried hard when IBM began building the PPC with copper interconnect, but it still couldn't keep up with the CISC powerhouses. Had it not been for Bill Gates investing millions into Apple, they would of been dead, forever.

So, here is where apple comes in again. Apple has effectively taken introduced technologies and made them compatible with all hipsters to use. Steve was not very technical... he was rather a simpleton. A Harmony remote would fuck the guy up. So apple would piggy back off failed products that had shitty marketing ( IE: MP3 players ) and make a mark for themselves. This allowed them to invest heavily into a FreeBSD operating system for future macs which has a horrid OS (OS8/9 anyone?) and convert the complicated world of windows, into the dumbed down world of Steve Jobs ( Trust me, i know whats best for your computer experience ). PC's were growing at an alarming rate and the avg joe could jump into this new internet created by Quayle. At the same time, viewing porn and kill their windows machines with virus's.

Apple knew they had a small chance in hell catching AMD/Intel powered PC's, so Steve had to invest into something that would make APPLE, relevant.

Apple began to stock pile shitloads of money off their iMac success and decided to produce a freebsd based mp3 player with a GUI.. which could then be put into a phone. Is this another technology apple brought to the table? No, Steve hated anything Microsoft and didn't like Windows CE or Blackberry. So he sought out to make it easier to use for fellow hippies like himself. What people fail to realize is, he figured out how Bill Gates became so rich... So after 30 yrs, Steve finally had a device he could have full control of that would require people to pay to use it.. ... Apple App Store/iTunes

So, apple dominates the fuckin market with the hipster device that killed listening to quality music recordings and made an assload of money doing it. The genius part is, he made it work as a phone and made it operate apps like it was a mac. So people could use it for everyday tasks because of its simplicity, size and ease of use.

Apple is nothing more than a marketing company.. and a brilliant one. However, they never played fair either... So i just find its ironic that Samsumg did basically the same thing apple would do. Some say that Steve made the mistake of working with samsung to design their GUIs and other physical features on the phone. Somewhere along the lines Steve pissed them off ( no surprise ) and samsung did what they had to do.

I don't discredit apple for taking the media technology that was all fragmented and rolling it into an all in one device. It was fuckin genius and i cannot believe he actually thought of it all by himself.. What irks me about apple is their intellect greed. Steve took what MS did with software licensing and placed it on the largest scale to date with a handheld device. However, since apple isnt a creator of technology, google came in and kicked their ass rather quickly. Now apple is trying to innovate off Android but its not working out for them.

There's many beginning to leave the world of apple because of its control freak attitude. People are beginning to figure out, their bullshit updates don't equal the cost of having to buy new phones. So, Apple may remain successful, but they are on the path to the downward spiral shortly. They are no longer the innovators...

I can't wait to see apple enter the world of televisions... this is where they will get their asses kicked into oblivion by Samsung, Panasonic and LG.

You do realize Steve Jobs just made the decisions on what went to market right? Then he marketed it. iPhone vs Droid is analogous to Camry vs MS3.

The iPhone is like a Camry. It looks decent, has good features, and works. You just have to keep feeding it power/gas, and it never gives you problems. The iPhone is an appliance.

Droid phones are like the MS3. It has much more performance than the Camry, but it also requires more maintenance. You can crack it open and modify it to your heart's content, but it will become less stable and reliable. Droid is a passion.

Me, I'm all about taking the risks and modding the hell out of my car; but when it comes to a smartphone, I want one that looks good and just works. That's why I have an iPhone.

It doesn't really pull punches, he was basically portrayed as an asshole, albeit one with a lot of determination to make his company successful. The book is great because it is as much a bio on the personal computer revolution in the seventies and onward as it is about Jobs. And what was special about Jobs wasn't as much his brilliance as it was his ruthless ability to extract incredible work out of a lot of talented people. He was narcissistic and arrogant and hated by a LOT of people. Good book.

Jobs was all about form factor, he wanted clean and elegant looking, slot less, buttonless devices that were intuitive to use. It was somebody else's job to figure out how to squeeze everything into the package he wanted and to make it work.

I like some of the products, especially the macbook pro laptops, expensive but unrivaled physical build quality - but there's a lot about Apple I don't really like. I can say the same about Google, though...

Commodore, man that brings me back to my high school days - I had an Amiga 500, what a great computer that was. The game library was awesome, killer games like Shadow of the Beast and It Came From the Desert. And there was a really kick ass Elvira game. Some good times.

Couldn't have said it better. But tbh, Jobs really took idea's that engineers came with and forced them to make it better. I think that deserved clarification. This is where the Intel Mac came from, and why the iphone wasn't an ipod classic w/ clickwheel and number buttons.

I work for Verizon slangin phones for a living. I've sold the I phone for 4 generations though, I worked for att over three years. Sadly, att sales reps are a bunch of sheep, and for the longest time the I phone was the best phone they had. From a sales perspective, the fucker works, all the time. And you have to be full retard to not know how to use it. But does anyone else remember that the first I phone couldn't even send picture messages? They have always been behind the smartphone curve. And only coming out with a phone once a year isn't helping there case at all. Technology moves way to fast for that. I will admit that I am excited for the next generation I phone. Finally at least the poor saps who want one can get 4G now.

Thats not true. Intel Mac had begun as a side project of an engineer way before PPC Support started going down the tubes. It wasn't a brilliant idea from SJ, most of the ideas aren't from SJ. They're from Apple Engineers and thats my point. SJ didn't design anything, he merely put the final touches on it.

SJ vowed many different things. But that was one of his best attributes, he changed and adapted to the conditions of the market and tech at that time.

Apple is always a step behind the curve in one way or another. Always has been and always will be. They're that way because Apple doesn't like loose strings.

We don't. Delta upgrades are an upgrade that only updates a portion of software, and only the portion thats necessary to update.

I agree with you, as for software modifications ios is hardly setup for that. I can see in the future that being undone. Apple can only keep iOS locked up for so long until something gives. Jailbreaking is nice but the jailbreak devs seriously need to take a step back and look at WTF they're doing.

Jailbreaking makes just about every iPhone unstable after a while. Its partially due to all the freaking dependancies running i the background. Jailbreak devs need to get a handle on that BS, they also need to make Cydia better.

I have been telling friends and family how Apple's marketing strategy is a black hole for years. You buy one product but can't put music on it without using the worst program ever called iTunes. And for Xmas one year my family got an iPod dock, I hate the thing so much. Sure it sounds good cuz its Bose but it literally can only be used with an iPod, no Auxiliary or anything. That sort of un-userfriendlyness is what makes me hate Apple and I hope Google takes them down big time.

I have been hacking my android phones for a few years and I love it even though its not as refined an OS as the one on the iPhone. But I deal with it because I know if I went Apple I would be forced to buy everything Apple just to get the full experience.

Not always. You dont have to use iTunes there are many music adding and media adding apps for the iphone. As for the dock.. it is made for iphones/ipods.... Thats more of a fault on your family for not picking the better dock with an aux port. Not even apples fault if the bose dock makers didn't add an AUX Port. However you're in luck. Where theres a will, theres a way... Apple isn't really a blackhole... you just have to look around.

Ya I've tried a few other programs for putting music onto an iPod and they work just not in a nice way when compared to iTunes. I wish we had gotten to choose which dock, but it was a present. Its just a pain that ppl give that sort of thing for a present assuming everyone has an iPod. I do, but I use my android phone for music 90% of the time so that's the problem. If the dock didn't have Apple on it, I bet there would be all sort of hook ups like USB, auxiliary, L/R ect. But that's Apples plan, make it only Apple compatible so they have Bose build it that way. At least that's what I see when I use their products. My brother had a MacBook pro and it didn't run anything I wanted to run. I put windows on a few of my friends macbooks so they could actually play games... I've just had a bad run with their stuff, I'm sure it all works as its intended. Just not for me.

The Windows vs. Mac Apps is a long standing thing. Now games are being made for mac as of lately so its not as big a deal. Macbook Pros run everything, and I mean everything. Sometimes may take a little tinkering, but they do run everything.

Gotta agree, in my iphone days ( yes i had the first all the way to iphone 4 ) I couldnt stand how crappy cydia was and the lack of dev support iphone had in general. As soon as i went to evo 4g, it was like nothing ive ever known...support, and i learned what cyanogenmod was.

It needs tinkering because its not a Windows computer. It wont run Windows applications. Its a Linux/BSD Based Operating system. Theres not much tinkering you just have to know what to do and become accustom to the Unix/BSD way of doing things.

You will see that shit unless you have uncorrected vision. As for CM10. It is much better. With Ice Cream Sandwich I really think Google did a great job and made an amazing OS. Theres no doubt that it is more functional and versatile than the iphone. Android is lagging behind in the times in many areas under the hood still but I feel that their UI and UX Experience is finally worth writing home about. At this point there still is no way in hell i'd recommend Android to a non-tech oriented person. But I myself would trade in my iphone for a Samsung Note or HTC One X. I can't stand plastic phones. It needs to be something more solid for me; but thats a personal preference. Functionality wise Android takes the trophy. But as for ease of use and application variety Apple really takes the cake.

That makes sence, i love the display on the Ipad just dont think its worth it on the phone, but the iphone 5 will have a bigger screen so that will make it better. I always buy the iphones and try them out and then sell them , so im not a complete hater. Thanks for the insight

Actually that wasn't a word I have ever typed on my phone it was generated from a Facebook comment that swift key happened to scan for me....
