i don't see how changing software makes the hardware any better... but i hear ya, their shit was weak back in the day for sure. but my current HTC has an aluminum frame, so did my G2... thats a quality build IMHO

Fwiw HTC paved the way for smartphones. They were a huge innovator before any of this got popular. First touchscreen keyboard hybrid, first touchscreen, and had experience with multiple os' (palm and windows) actually almost all palm phones back in the day were HTC phones. Friendstream is some cool shit too.

HTC make great phones.. but since the SGIII, Samsung has really kicked it up a few notches unlike the previous plastic galaxies. The tunderbolt is a very nice built phone... and it has an amazing screen.. Good look at any moto and the screen looks like shit.

Yeah, wasn't it the droid Razr that had that horrific screen? That was a cool looking phone, but the screen looked awful compared to iPhone an other android phones at the time.

The HTC phone I got a chance to use was a touchscreen phone that was out around te time of the iPhone 3G, but it was non-android. Build quality felt lousy (very plastic feeling) and the touchscreen user interface was horrible. Like the interface was a complete afterthought after building the phone.

That abortion of a phone damaged the reputation of HTC in my mind, but I haven't really played with anything newer from HTC so they may be making great stuff now, I'm just commenting on back then.

With Alienware its not really the name your paying for as much as the MXM, the Lighting, The fancy box and case, and pretty leather manual. Because Alienware is the only mainstream laptop maker to use the MXM port in their consumer laptops they can charge the premium and get away with it. IMO its totally worth it.

If I didn't require a Mac Platform i'd totally rock a M15x in Nebula Red.

It is expensive.. but you have to consider what your getting. An entirely user serviceable and upgradeable laptop. The MXM port alone separates Alienware from any other laptop on the mainstream market. You pay 2K for an Alienware laptop and it will last the life of 2-3 laptops so it's a buck well spent.

The last winmo phone I had was the Samsung Omnia. Not sure what that ran on but it was a great phone. My only complaint with that phone was that it was a pressure sensitive screen....which worked for a while...but gradually got worse as the screen got scratches. That was years ago before gorilla glass.

I have the alienware m15x and I hate it. The touch pad sucks for starters and I am forced to use a mouse unless I want to spend 5 second every time I want to scroll down a tiny bit. But the real reason I hate it is simply because its a labtop. You can't upgrade shit. Well you can but its way too expensive and still not fast. It has a outdated graphics card and its a shame because the rest of the specs like processor and ram would be fine for the games I want to play, but the graphics card holds it back. My dual core PC I built like 6 years ago runs games better simply because I put a nvidia 250x card in it and that's not even a new graphics card...

It does everything else fine tho like Photoshop and ATR. If I could sell it I would.

i thought alienware was just rebadged clevo and sagar laptops? those are pretty upgradeable... back in the day i had a 19" alienware laptop, and i was able to upgrade the mobo, processor and vid cards.. yea, it cost like 700 to do, but that is cheaper than a new laptop, and who else could say they had a RAID array and SLI'ed vid cards, in a 19" laptop?

compared to a new MBP, where you cannot upgrade shit, not even the battery... f that

Question: I haven't really used many android phones, but the couple I've had a chance to hold recently, you had to click a button on the top (same place as iPhone's power button) to start it up when it was in sleep mode. Then you could swipe or whatever to unlock. I'd that common to most android devices, or just the couple I've happened to use?

I have no problem with much of anything with android phones and think they are on par with iPhone, but that having to push a button on top thing would drive me nuts. Just a stupid design IMO.

I had the LG chocolate, and the LG voyager and those phones sucked so much ass. I left Verizon because those phones were so bad I lost faith in the carrier that decided to stick them.

Lg sux in general, you need a good brand phone. That's the one thing about android that sux, you can have a bad experience on a certain phone but get a different one and it's all good. With iphone the experience won't change bc it's one maker. Those crappy lg and some other phones like the thunderbolt and droid charge prolly ruined it for a lot people.

You remember that shit? That phone was TERRIBLE with its small screen and dumb antenna. I went through 3 of them at no fault of my own before Verizon gave me full retail price towards any phone of my choice. I went with the Motorola Q9M. Big mistake as well. Went through 3 of those also and Verizon just let me break my contract for free and I left and went to AT&T and been with iPhone ever since.

Yeah i had been given one of those because my pos audiiovox win mobile phone kept fuckin up. Infact, that pos's battery wouldnt last 3 hours. So they gave me the LG.... welp, they didnt even ask for it back when i had all of the issues with it... They gave me the blackberry storm instead.. which was the utter, of epic fucking fails.

So I opened an iphone 5 today. Packaging is cheaper, phone feels cheaper. It has a good weight to it but something about it makes it toyish feeling. Feels snappy enough and the new maps are pretty cool. Overall though I think they took a step back.

Meh, the new MBP-R doesn't leave much to be desired in terms of performance. At any rate, Alienware USED TO BE rebadged Clevo and Sager laptops. Which is when I would suggest not buying them and just going to Sager, sager notebooks, sager laptops, sager computers, sager electronics, sager np8890 But the new Alienwares, the M15x and shit are new chassis and platforms from inhouse. Which is why I would buy them.

Ya there are only a few cards to choose from and they are all $500 plus unless I missed a cheaper one. I got a better card in my desktop for $100, so thats why I dont want to spend money on it.

Uh, no, there are tons of cards to choose from. Every GPU thats out for desktop usually has a MXM Counterpart. Yes they do average like 100-200$ more than a desktop gpu. But thats because they're harder to make.

honestly I could care less about huge screens. If I wanted a large screen I'd buy a tablet. Also for being so outdated it sure is benchmarking well ahead of every other smartphone out right now.

I went and looked at the HTC oneX and the GS3 but I just was not a fan, cause honestly I was considering the GS3.

I know, samsung is a massive conglomerate. But I believe this type of behavior by apple hinders competition and further segments future device potential. didn't mean to come off as harsh like that.

I kind of hate how closed apple is as a company in terms of both software and hardware. google is no saint either, but they did the world a huge favor by developing android under the apache software license. android is developed openly, and apple sees the threat and is trying to crush it.
