(Thread Starter) | ![]() Yesterday was a tough day for members of the motor racing community as Jules Bianchi suffered a severe head injury from a crash at the Japanese Grand Prix. But tragedy struck again while we await the latest word on Bianchi's recovery, this time claiming the life of former F1 driver Andrea de Cesaris. The veteran Italian driver was a mainstay of the F1 grid for all of the 1980s and into the '90s, driving for a wide variety of teams including Alfa Romeo, McLaren, Ligier, Minardi, Jordan and Tyrrell. Though he never won a grand prix, he did claim five podiums, one pole position and a fastest lap over the course of his long career. De Cesaris reportedly died instantly in a motorcycle accident in his home town of Rome yesterday. He was 55 years old. Our condolences go out to his grieving friends and family.Former F1 driver Andrea de Cesaris dies in motorcycle crash originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 06 Oct 2014 08:00:00 EST.
