Default Lexus talks LFA successor

Did you just miss out on purchasing one of the 500 Lexus LFA supercars built between 2010 and 2012? "No big deal," you're probably thinking, "I'll just wait until the next time Lexus builds a supercar." Well, we're afraid that you'll be waiting quite a long time. And by long time, we mean about 30 years.

That's according to a report from Bloomberg, which indicates that yes, Lexus is looking at a follow-up to the V10-powered, carbon-fiber-bodied LFA.

"Akio [Toyoda] believes that every generation deserves to have a car like an LFA, so we're building an LFA for the generation we have today," Lexus Executive Vice President Mark Templin told Bloomberg. "At some point, there may be another special car for another generation."

That "another generation" bit is important, because as company spokesman Brian Lyons told Bloomberg, that second gen could come in the 2040s (here's to a hydrogen-powered, flying Lexus supercar plane?).

Meanwhile, Templin offered some hints about the allegedly high-performance LF-LC coupe's production chances.

"I won't tell you yes, and I won't tell you no," Templin said. "We got more response from that press conference than any car I've ever shown in my life. I was blown away by the response people had for that car."

So, while we probably won't be seeing an LFA successor for a few decades, at least the chances for the LF-LC look promising.Lexus talks LFA successor originally appeared on Autoblog on Sat, 09 Aug 2014 14:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.
