Default Patent filing shows U.S. 2012 Buick Excelle compact sedan

2012 Buick Compact sedan - Click above for high-res image gallery

What you see here is probably the next new product to join the Buick lineup after the Regal sedan. These design patent drawings depict a compact sedan based on the same Delta global platform as the Chevrolet Cruze and Opel Astra. The five-door hatchback version of this car is already available in China badged as the Buick Excelle.

Speaking with Buick advertising and sales manager Craig Bierley during our recent trip to China, we learned that the Excelle name won't be coming to North America next year when this car launches. Bierley wasn't ready to reveal the U.S. badge (assuming it's even been determined) except to say that it would be new. What, no Skylark?

The four door sedan will go on sale in China this summer and arrive here about a year from now. We're guessing that the same 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-four that is optional in the Cruze will be standard in the Buick with the 1.6-liter 180 horsepower turbo motor now available in the Excelle as an option.
