thanks again phate!!!!!

Has anyone figured out a way to drop in a Walbro without hacking and cutting up shit? Also, has anyone been successful using a KB BAP? I've been reading threads and haven't seen anything conclusive.

you do need to do some trimming but its def been done before.

no reason to upgrade unless your stock pump is failing. FWIW erich made his 534 on stock ITFP.

Worth it to note that probably at least 100hp of that is being supported by methanol though.

thats absolutely true, i think stock ITFP is good for about 330-380whp and anything after that requires aux fueling.

also note that quad walbro 255's isent going to get you any farther then the stock ITFP when it comes to fueling demand. all it needs to do is fill the cavity in the CDFP chamber to do its job.

SST just arrived...thanks @phate!

WOW all I can say is engineers have too much time on their hands to invent a fastening system for the ITFP that requires this tool.

can't you take out a scoobie pump with like a phillips or 10-12mm socket? hahahah

I think 440-450 to the wheels may be achievable with out aux fueling based on what I have seen in my car. It would likely require boost tapering at the top in 5th and 6th though.

theres no way. i was seeing 100% IDC at like 380whp WITH meth.

for some reason some people seem to be ok going past 100% IDC but my car just freaks out and i can feel and see how poor the combustion becomes. i would say its a 3/6 thing but @SSinstaller is running over 100% IDC without problems. he does have the upgraded injectors so maby because the ECU doesent know that hes ok going past 100? to me 100 means ive reached the power stroke in my spray window which is a big no no.

I think I was at around 420 with just the M3 nozzle in the intercooler, running 11.8 for AFR's and wasn't seeing IDC problems until after 7k rpm in 4th. So I figured if I lean it out a little I should be able to pick up enough injector to get another 20-30 hp. Also, I am only driving 2 wheels instead of the 4 you have to drive.

ok a lil update....my car is getting weaker by the minute!!!

it started out being able to handle about 3/4 throttle without running dry. Then a day or so later is was 1/2 throttle...then 1/4 throttle...now I can't even pass grandma in her minivan lol

does every one still concur that the filter is clogged and or the pump is going out?

I would think if it was the RV it wouldn't "degrade" in this fashion but IDK.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that an RV failure typically only occurs at high RPMS and a spill valve failure is evidenced around max TQ.

I will not have an RV available this weekend so I hope that isn't the issue lol.

Sounds the exact same as mine. Over time it got worse and worse until I actually saw pressure drop to almost nothing while driving.

MOTHERFUCKER!!!

So now I'm losing fuel pressure! I'm gonna keep hope alive that it's just this weird load related issue I'm having but if it's not, I'm killing Dano for starting this thread!

Reason I think it's my own personal load cap(even though all my load tables are atand 3.0)- only been running e for 2 weeks and it's less than 2 gal per tank, but mostly because it started right after I flashed a new map with a little more boost and before I scaled down my maf my issues alway started above 2.2-2.3 load which I'm now at again with the new map.

Reason I think it's the itfp and/ or e85 related is... this thread.

hum...sorry to hear about that and do hope it isn't your pump.

What we may be seeing are filter failures due to the cleaning power of E85 in our tanks. It may be dissolving petro deposits and clogging up the filter.

I say this b/c of what Phate has observed and IIRC after replacing his ITP he thought it might have only been the filter.

question:

can the IT filter be removed and some sort of pickup fashioned so that an external filter can then be installed in-line right before the CDFP as Phate did?

would non filtered fuel destroy the ITP?

This would make filter replacement MUCH easier.

I can't answer the first question, but I can tell you that removing the sock completely will cause the ITFP to fail prematurely due to debris.

If the sock is removable, then I see no reason you couldn't backflush it and reinstall. I've never taken out the MS3/6 ITFP and looked at it before, though.

This would also explain why it is only the gen1 guys that are having the clogging/black stuff with e85 and us genpu aren't. Our cars haven't been around long enough to get a bunch of deposits in the fuel system from regular gas.

+- 3 hours to "flush" filter...fuck that....now with that said, I would agree and removing the filter is not a good idea.

hum...well if I drop my tank...I looked at the access hole lastnight while looking at my air nibblers in my hands...and I may cut my floor pan out...there I said it...sorry kmac...

I already figured out how I would mold a fiberglass access pannel to cover it back up or even CF hell to the yes...1st ever MS3 CF ITFP access hole cover.

mazda engineers are the dumbest motherfukers on the planet. don't even know why they put an "access" hole there...you can unplug the power wire and maybe disconnect the fuel line but that's about it. There is nothing much structural in that area so no reason why they wouldn't make the hole large enough to allow full access to remove the pump. oh and lets not forget the engine undercover oil filter hole....*shakes head*

sooooooo where was I...oh yes..IF I remove the tank...I'll drain it completely...put in a gallon of E85.....swish it around....let it sit for a few hours...dump it then rinse and repeat before I reinstall....

this cleaning process would be the only reason I would actually drop the tank. the labor to cut and create a new access hole/cover will take longer the 1st time but in a year or so when I need to replace the pump or filter again it will be cake.

It's probably the same issue that the undertray has; it was originally designed for the MZ3 and no longer lines up with the afterthought MS3 parts.

I think that's a good assessment of the filter/nastiness situation.

The sock is removable, but it's like a $15 part by itself. No reason to spend the time backflushing it and possibly damaging the material for that much money and time.

Do you happen to have a P/N and place to purchase from for that sock? For that price I'll order one and swap it out after a while on E95 as PM.

ok so the service manual says your supposed to be able to drop the tank enough using the straps to hold it up and then you can get the SST in the hole and pull the bucket out.

atleast thats what i remember reading.

I'm 100% sure the ITFP assembly will not fit through the MS3 access hole. MS6 - Yes, for sure. The MS3's access hole is like half the size, so you either drop the tank or cut open the access hole.

FYI

Black line is what I will be removing tonight.

If after removing that material, I feel there is a need for more structure I will install a bolt in brace then create an access cover either out of fiberglass or sheet metal..

when I am done it will look factory...just wait and see

30 minutes in and here's the rough cut. The pump could easily be removed now but not until I finish the access opening. the air nibblers rocked this out in no time flat. no sparks in the interior from a cut off wheel ..this is FTW!

BTW I owned a collision center for 10 years so this is right up my alley.

I'll create another thread with the entire process.

So I have hesitation at wot high rpm's... which has turned into hesitation at all wot rpms lately. No CELs. I have replaced my maf, plugs, hpfp, and went back to stock... no change, though it did get a little better when I changed my hpfp. Checked and rechecked hoses for boost leaks. Looks like I am getting a quick drop in fuel pressure during the hesitation.

I am leaning towards fueling being the culprit. I checked my fuel pressure after I turned my car off and it held at about 450psi, dropping to about 425 after a minute or two. This makes me think that the relief valve is not the issue, and that the filter may be clogged or the itfp is screwed.

Sound like I am on the right track? It just seems like my issue is almost exactly like what is described in the thread and I am really out of ideas. Thoughts?

Is there an easy way to differentiate between boost-cut and low FP cut out (ITFP/filter failure)? I'm trying to decide if I should look into upgrading the fuel system, or fixing boost-cut. I only have a CAI and colder plugs for engine mods.

yeah buy a dash hawk or cobb AP and monitor...

but for a dude like you...

boost cut feels kinda like you're doing 100 mph and you hit a brick wall then you continue on your way.

fuel cut feels more like stuttering and going over bumps with traction control on.

just my experience....

I'm def concentrating more on brakes/handling more than engine, but maybe I'll start thinking more about a dash hawk. Would a cool morning drive to work (~30 deg) make boost cut more likely due to the cool air?
