Default Electronics expert needed

Can our ECU communicate with a injector driver that has inputs for a CAN bus (500k baud) or whatever a K-Line is?

Well it looks like our injector driver is integrated into the ECU, if we cant swap injector drivers then it is much more difficult to swap injectors and that does suck.

I'd say with a tune you can really do whatever you please. Obviously stand alone you would be totally fine, but with a piggy back system you would have to see what can speed the powertrain can communicates at. Sounds like a big headache to me. Personally I would see if there isn't some modification that can be done to the stock injectors to get them to do what you want.

I am looking at a $4000 DI system that flows enough fuel for 600hp @ 8000rpm, but I think it would require too much work and the real world cost would be far higher than $4000 to get it to work.

Can you put up with a manifold based methanol/ethanol system, possibily direct port. I am referring to a separate methanol injection system that injects based on fuel flow.

What does that have to do with a upgraded DI system?

I am sorry for the confused answer.

You are looking for more fuel, so a secondary alcohol injection system that will supplement you stock fuel injectors - just a long shot, perhaps it is a bad idea.

Alright, since your a vendor, im gonna let you propose a standalone secondary injection system that is compatible with our engine.

I don't want to come across as someone trying to sell you a system. My post was about an alternative way for putting addition fuel into a monster power engine. At present, we don;t have such a product until I understand how the Mazda DI fuel system works. One of the forum member here is helping me at the moment.

Some far it appeared the only way to achieve this by mechanical components, larger injectors, higher rail pressure/flow pump etc - It is not going to be cost effective although it might proved to be a better method long term.

I am able to help with the electronics side but I don't think it is a good solution as there is only a limited window opening to inject fuel into the engine.

Well I think me and about 5000+ other forum members would love to be sold a system that would add additional fuel prior to the spark event.

DI as a system is capable of reliable high rpm sustained use, but not at the pressures our DI system is designed for. Racing DI systems such as the Bosch system that I was looking into are designed to put enormous amounts of fuel into the cylinder, as much as 1200hp worth at 4000rpm and have a 8500+rpm limit.

Vivid Racing, and Race Roots both (supposidly) developed secondary injection systems for our car, but no one has brought a system to the market yet. At least not a system that is cheaper than replacing the entire DI system.

The Bosch system that I was looking at is interesting in that the injectors themselves appear to be the same electronic specs as our injectors and flow more fuel. Running them in theory should only require a custom harness, custom rail, and machining of the head... and tuning of course.

It appeared that you are looking for a high flow DI system. I believe this is only possible with high flow DI injectors to replace the existing one.

As I cannot see there are rooms to put in aother set of DI injectors into the combuston chambers. So I assume the "secondary system" is supplying fuel at the upstream of the inlet valves?

If this is the case, any piggy-back conventional fuel injection system can do the job.

I am sorry I am slow to recongise what you want.

The Bosch system that I was looking at would be a full or nearly full replacement of our DI system, the problem is that it is seriously expensive.

A secondary system is something I have thought about as well, but I lack the electronics and tuning experience to build a system like that. If someone could bring a system like that to market I am sure that myself and a few others would buy it.

We are currently attempting to read the signal of a DI injector, if it is successful I think we can do some interesting experiments with our current WMI system.

By tracking the OE fuel flow, we can inject 100% methanol to each port individually thus supplementing fuel for more power. If this works, it will be far more economical than a $4000 Borsch system. Methanol as fuel when used as fuel, it packs with more octane and can run leaner and cooler.

It will be good for us and for the MS3/6. I like to look into this further. What do you think?

Well first you would have to solve the issue of injector timing since our injectors are not timed to the same degree as normal PI injectors, then once you solve that you will note that our injector on signal is not static and does change timing slightly as load increases.

If you could make a secondary PI system as you were describing, its going to come in at a fairly hefty price tag. It may not be as much as the $4000 Bosch system I was looking at, but its going to be at least $2500 and at that price point its going to need to be a flawless, proven high horsepower system in order to sell.

We have just managed to detect the IDC successfully. It is now a matter of how to use this signal to further your wishes.

I can see two possibilitie:

1. Fuel you extra power with one of our IDC tracking methanol injection system (~$700)
2. Fuel your extra power with gasoline injectors and a modified manifold. ($???)

the 6 has a separate injector driver but the 3 has it built into the ECU. if you have ever heard Lou or dustin talk about how the injectors are driven, just forget about the whole trying to control them because your not going to be able to.

I think Rickard is talking about controling a secondary injector driver off of the DI injector signal. It might be easier to run a crank trigger, but I think it is possible this way as well.

I would like to see a runner based system with individual injectors.

Thanks for clarifying what I am trying to achieve.

The secondary rail of injectors may not be as mapping intensive, if it is designed to add fuel to the primary, just need some simple scaling and fires at the correct sequence before the inlet valves shut.

As regarding hardware requirement, it will depend on what type of fuel one refers. Either a set of normal fuel injector set up (rails, pump and FPR etc) or modifying an existing WMI system. At present no one makes an individual port, sequential methanol injection system. Aquamist's IDC tracking HFS-3 system is the nearest. I doubt if we will go further and manufacture such as system, commercially, it may be not viable.

I am working with a few MSF memebers here, may be a basic WMI will work just as well. We shall see. Dustin and a few others have been helping me and I like to express my thanks to them as well.

Well direct injection is going to be the way of the future so developing a supplimental fuel injection system would put your company ahead of the technology curve.

It will be impossible (cost) for us to develop an in-chamber supplementary system DI system. So it will have to be a conventional manifold-type port injection system.

Are there any room to fit a fuel injection on each of the runner of the MS3/6 engine?

On a MS6 there is room for a manifold type system.

If we were to make a unit that will power a second set of fuel injector, how would one run it. Staged and add addition fuel only under load? Or, add fuel when the original set runs out?

Add fuel for any maf voltage past a certain point and cap the stock DI system to only fuel to that point. That way it only kicks in during high load.

The electronics and hardware are not too difficult to achieve. But working out the algorithm in relationship to the OE may take time and effort.

As you have put it, start to activate the second rail at a preset load point is a good start. From that point on, the second rail can ramp up at a user defined slope (against the OE idc). If this is acceptable, we can probably develop it without too much effort.

Yeah I would buy a secondary PI injection system.
