It would depend on the car and what not. I personally ran without FP internals with my corksport intake and TIP for about 3,000+ miles and never saw my FP dip below 1600 at WOT. I heard its can be fine for 5,10,20,000 miles and then boom they just give out. Don't let this one fuck up that was because of inexperience keep you from doing the safe thing and having the right internals put in with the help of someone that has done the swap many times. Better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them.

Gen one you are "probably" fine but I wouldn't do it with a gen 2.

Given that the title of this thread has "FAIL" in it, I remain skeptical. Sorry.

The only reason why I would back away from this is the lack of funds at the moment. My girl and I are trying to close on a house and I can't swing the AP at the moment. I originally was going to wait on the install until I got the AP but figured I would install the internals first and buy the AP shortly after. This of course was the plan BEFORE I had to drop money on a replacement pump

Haha, funny you should say this. My friend who was helping me install the internals the first time around said the same thing to me today when I told him I wanted to toss in the towel. Maybe I'll just throw up some of my vinyl records from my collection on ebay and buy the AP with that money, we'll see......

Buy the AP and monitor the fuel pressure or sell the intake and TIP until you are ready to mod. Because be honest with yourself on how long it will be before you buy fuel pump internals again or an AP. do it all right the first time or don't do it. The extra woosh sound isn't worth the risk of blowing your shit up from lack of support and without the AP you aren't getting hardly any extra HP anyway.

^this.

We all know the ECU is the nerve center of modern cars. Everything relevant with the engine / transaxle involves the ECU in some shape or form.

After I got an intake (before coming here) I had this bad feeling like I was bolting on a part with no knowledge of the potential side effects. I now understand how important the MAF sensor calibration is and if I had it to do over again I would have gotten the AP first. Hell I would have bought it if all it did was capture logs, it's and invaluable tool when modding.

Just my $.02

Good shit man! But here is the double edged sword... You have to tell yourself that now that you have SRI, TIP, and AP you might be good for awhile but if/when the time comes where you see your fuel pressure dropping, you will be in the same boat you are in now. That was my dilemma I had when deciding what to buy first since I could only afford one or the other at the time, do you buy the AP and monitor only to find that your pump is shitting the bed and now have to spend the $350 anyway, or do you just buy the internals and install them without having any way of knowing if they are holding pressure fine and still have no way of making any extra usable power out of the intake and TIP? See where I am going with this? It's give and take and just like life you have decisions.

The box used was paper thin and the pump wasn't packaged well enough. I assume during shipping it was bouncing around inside and ended up cracking the sensor on the pump

I'm more concerned that this pump was not even remotely packed correctly. At a bare minimum when transporting a pump like this:

all fuel sources need to be taped off and free of debris,

the entire plunger assembly needs to be taped off with painter's tape and preferably a plastic tube of some sort as to prevent all contact with the plunger,

a LOT more newspaper / peanuts, the best option being cut out a hole in 2 pieces of styrofoam and sandwiched in between and snugly seated in a box.

I expect this to happen with everything I ship.

I'm actually glad you never installed this pump. If this is how the previous owned thought it should be handled, you don't want it in your car.

Yeah, I noticed all of that too but didnt focus on it too much since the damn thing is broken anyways. Sadly, this pump came from someone on MSF who I thought was one of the more 'seasoned' people on here who would have known better/packaged it up correctly for shipment.

Ummm yeah that's what they are known for. Free overnight shipping on AP's as well as the best price around. How long were you expecting it to take to ship?

Is that as good as edge?

BIG props to CenCalSpeed3 for getting me a replacement pump and packing it CORRECTLY so it wouldn't get damaged during shipping.

I got everything installed, got the AP running, and I am currently holding FP with no problem now Ive just got to do the break in on the autotechs and then start looking for a custom tune! Thanks to everyone who has helped me get back on my feet!
