Default WI Install

Random thoughts and install info.

I got my WI installed over the last weeks vacation, spent a majority of the time planning out where things were going to mount, the install itself was far more simple than I had anticipated. My camera is on the fritz but as soon as I either get it fixed or get another one I'll post pics. Otherwise, I'll try to explain the locations as best as possible.

First, I went with the Labonte stage III kit, I have no previous WI knowledge/install experience so take the following information/ideas for what you think it's worth.

I actually ordered two kits, one from Labonte directly for my fathers car after going back and forth with PT Performance and the first one for my car from PT Performance. If I could do it over again I would go straight through Labonte because I am absolutely not impressed with PT Performance's ..... "Performance". Getting information from JohnB@PT was like pulling freaking teeth and I will be hard pressed to deal with him in the future. I did pay a tad more for the kit directly from Labonte but it was money well spent, I really do like the quality of the Labonte Kit, vendor issues aside.

Pump: Mounted in place of the jack behind the little door in the trunk. Fits great and made wiring fairly easy. I relocated the jack wedged between the foam insert and the spare tire, fits like a champ and wedges in pretty tight, no rattles issues as of yet. As far as the pump goes, the only gotcha is to mount the pump high enough that it doesn't clank above the bracket the jack rests on. I'm sure this is common sense for everyone but just thought I'd toss it out there.

Jack in towel wedged by tire/foam

Tank: Mounted drivers side of trunk just beyond the pump location, easy access and again made wiring fairly simple.

Meth tube and wiring runs along drivers side of car under carpet/footboards. I just got everything taped together and ran all wires through protective plastic wrap, pretty simple to push it through the carpet that way, loads of room under there. It's going down through the rear seat bracket up to the firewall on drivers side.

Display: I mounted the display just under the dash right of the OBDII port, I get a perfect shot of what I need looking down through the steering wheel and keeps it out of the way of all my other gauges/dash hawk. This might not work if you have long legs but I'm 5'8" and don't have an issue getting in and out. I mounted the bracket upside down and drilled two holes for the pump led and level led.. everything all right there together for my monitoring pleasure.

The remaining wires that go to the control box funnel out through the hole for the hood release cable, I had to actually punch a larger hole there and file it out a bit but the metal their is super thin, I was actually shocked when I tried to drill through and put nearly no force on things and just punched through like butter. It was an awkward angle to file the hole out a bit but with a long enough round file it wasn't horrible, You will have to remove the battery assembly, at least I did to have enough room to work. Keep in mind with the display on the stage three the hole will need to be large enough for the USB connection to get through in addition to the other wiring/cables.

Control Box: mounted on the battery box, front insert that you can slide up/out of the main battery assembly.

Solinoide: I mounted on the bracket next to the CPU, I had to Dremel the front tooth that fastens the CPU cover to the battery box to get it to work, but it was the logical placing for ease of cabling. I Positaped the white/viloet wire for injector one for the controller, works great.

Nozzle: I've read through multiple posts and although I don't think mounting the nozzle on the intake cold plug looks that difficult, I went with the coldpipe on the stock TMIC. I did this for a few reasons, first and foremost, I have seen no evidence yet that tapping the nozzle down there actually benefits, I personally think that spraying from the cold pipe location will be distributed over all runners just fine. I could be wrong here, but again without any evidence proving one way or another, for ease of cabling I felt this acceptable. I have seen enough evidence that spraying from the TMIC coldpipe is effective.

I drove back from Florida with multiple Wot runs, burned less than half a tank of water/meth - right around 800 miles. I went with a number 5 nozzle and backed the gain off 15 points on the setup/display, this is where everything seem to smooth out, I'm sure this is situational based on mods. I'm happy with this kit, I think Labonte makes a solid product. I don't doubt that Devil's own is equally as good but all things said and done I'm not sure I could ask for much more out of a Meth Kit.

Pics uploaded, let me know if there's anything else you want to see

** One additional note, today I had an issue that I'm not sure is related to where I mounted my nozzle or not. I'm a huge fan of the turbosmart BOV and I do not think the following problem was specific to the TS product but this morning my car felt like it had no balls. the Pshhh sound from my bov also did not sound as dramatic as normal. I could hear the turbo spooling as I would expect but no umph/kick. The psi seemed lower on my labonte display but normal on my dashhawk (fyi, I think the labonte display is more accurate... just a side note). After checking all my clamps and everything else I could think of I noticed the cylinder in the TS bov was stuck open just a hair. I pulled the bov apart and cleaned/oiled everything.. it seems to be working fine at this point, all back to normal power wise. So if you do mount your nozzle on coldpipe of the TMIC I would recommend you oil the bov a tad bit more frequently.

i can't wait to see some pics... i fully endorse the labonte kit, their stuff is top notch, and i really like their pump design, or specifically, the way they control pressure of the system.

Sounds like all went well, which is great. Labonte makes 95% of DO's kit, aside from the pump.
