215/55/17

Will I rub with 215/55/17 on a 17x7 52.5 offset wheel? (Stock suspension)
Can I go taller on the 17" wheel?
Need some more rubber on my MS3 for Daily Driving... Low profiles killing wheels and suspension on these horrible roads!!
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

think about upgrading your dampers before buying minivan tires.

I have some FSD's coming, but that won't stop my rims from getting cracked on these NY highways with pieces of the pavement missing!!

unless you're offroading 55 sidewall is a lot more than you'll ever need

Maybe 55 will be too much, but the question is: will they fit without rubbing?
Sometimes I feel like driving in nyc IS off-roading!!

idk honestly, but why do you think you need a 55 sidewall? I don't recall reading about anyone bending a rim with stock sidewalls, so my uneducated guess is that with fsd's 40 will be fine. How fast are you hitting those potholes? I'd just steer around them, if you're that concerned get some 17" or even better some 16" rd wheels for cheap and save some money on new tires.

I wanted to get 55's because when I did the calculations, 215/55 on 17's were just a little taller than 215/45/18. 215/50/17 are about the same height as 215/45/18... I'm just worried about rubbing. I rubbed a bit when I had on 225/45/18.

Wait, that doesn't make sense.

40mm > (by a lot) 1 inch

rubbing comes from the top of the wheel, and the tire should be out all the way (at the speeds that you can lock out the steering wheel one way or the other), so if you rub with a 45mm sidewall on an 18" rim, I don't see why you wouldn't with a 55mm sidewall on a 17" rim.

Width does make a difference though, but I cannot see why you would need/go with a 55mm sidewall on this car. How many miles have you put on your current tires? If you haven't bent the rim yet over the life of your current tires (idk how many miles you've traveled), I don't see why you would take "preventative" measures if nothing has gone wrong in your daily commute.

Nobody is going to be able to tell you whether or not those will rub, because nobody has run such a tall sidewall on the ms3 yet.

If you're gonna use wheels that size, just get 215/50R17 and be done with it.

That's the size I use for snow tires (with a more aggressive offset - et44) with 17x7 Ford Fusion wheels. No rubbing whatsoever.
