225 or 235

I'm running Enkei EKM3 18"x7.5" with an offset of 45mm wheels and dropped on Eibach springs. Looking at replacing the tires with Hankook V12s, can i run a 235/40 tire without rubbing issues or should I stick with a 225/40"?

I'm not too sure, but I'm almost certain you'll need a wider wheel to accomodate a 235 tire.

As for the 225, you should have an aspect ratio of 45 to keep the speedo calibrated with less error.

08.5MS3,

I just bought 7.5" wide wheels and they came with 235 tires. They aren't stretched, but rather uncomfortably flush with the lip of the wheel.

Good to know.

I know some people need to get their fender rolled when they are going wider...I'm not sure their offset or tire size, but I have read some. Keep that in mind OP.

235's will fit a 7.5" rim just fine. Im running a 225/45 on rx8's with no rubbing, however im not lowered and expect to have to do a very minor roll in the rear only.

if you have the eibach kit thats a 2.5" drop i think its the pro kit youll have to do a slight roll.

RacerX78 02-12-2011 05:09 PM

235's should be just fine for a 7.5" or 8" wheel. You drop shouldn't affect clearance if you on the Eibach prokit's for the MS3. The only time you should have a issue is if your sitting on the MZ3 Sportline kit.

def not a 2.5" drop. They claim .8 front and .7 rear. I would say at the VERY most an inch in the front, .8 rear.

I had 225/40 and just went to 225/45 on stock rims so I am pretty sure with op offset you can def get by with 225/45 or 235/40.

redMS308 02-12-2011 06:43 PM

Thanks guys for all the feedback, the eibach springs I had are for the ms3 with the aprox. .8 and .7 drop. As of now I'm leaning towards the 235/40, spring can't come quick enough!

jax ms3gt 02-12-2011 07:26 PM

yeah eibach doesn't even have a 2.5" drop. At all.

Tire compound, tire itself is much more important than an extra centimeter of contact also..

Expect the need to roll the fenders.

RacerX78 02-13-2011 09:25 AM

I doubt he'll have to unless he has rims with crazy offset. the prokits minor drop and only slight extra width shouldn't cause a problem unless he hauling stuff in his trunk.

can you post some pics? I am about to buy some wheels that are 7.5" wide and I want to see if I should run 225 or 235.

I responded to you on 247. Hankook doesn't recommend 235's with anything less than an 8" wheel. They are also known for a pretty wide section width. So with a 45mm offset, you're going to need to roll your rear fenders at least.

I ended up ordering the 225/40 sized tires today, just don't want to have to get the fenders rolled. Thanks everyone for the helpful advice!

Your speedo will be off more so than if you went with a 225/45.

There's very little clearance stock with that size (especially V12's). A drop + another 7.5mm will just exasperate the issue (IMO).

I only have the flashy "Let's show off my new wheels on facebook" pictures on this computer. I can take some better pictures of the tires tomorrow. But the tire basically comes meets the wheel perfectly flush.

its the mz3 sportline kit. alot of people ran them a little while back. since the ms3 is already an inch lower than a reg 3 it slammed the hell out of it.

I just bought Enkei EKM3's in hyper silver with Hankook V12's as well ...I considered the 235/40/18 option but chickened out and got 215/45/18. I didn't want ANY probs with the rear fenders.

you lowered? you could have easily ran a 225/45/18 on stock suspension. ive had mine on for about 5 months with no issues.

Jon2000 03-20-2011 01:21 PM

^ I'm lowered on Cobb springs ...probably could have done the 225/45/18 but I'm OK with the stock size.

jester1341 03-25-2011 08:27 AM

I'm at stock ride height and on stock wheels, a friend has a 'new' set of 235/40R18s for cheap....... Will they fit without rubbing??
