235 or 245 getting new tires installed on rx-8 wheels next week. i have koni fsd's and stock springs so should i go 235/40/18 or 245/40/18 (hankook v12s)? i'm guessing the former. here's a pic of current wheel gap with the konis... http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/t...us97/034-1.jpg |
I need to know this too |
think 245s will work ---> http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...earched-77290/ guess i'll roll the rear fenders worst case. i'm not hauling them around. http://www.bz2-img.com/images_custom...41506_full.jpg |
Search n00b? I Google'd. Found a few threads on other mazda forums. Looks like 245/40's will rub a little once in a blue moon, 235's wont. |
raider, you're saying google > msf? |
Not always. There is a shit-ton of information here. But sometimes it can help to see what schleps have done outside the msf world. I had 235's on my last set of tires, and rolling fenders helped a lot. Rented it on ebay for $50, and rolled a couple other guy's locally too at the same time, split the cost. |
I just got those tires in 235 and I am very impressed so far for the price. Pretty sure you can get a $60 rebate on those tires as well. |
think i'm going w/ the 245s. plus, the konis made the wheel gap larger. waiting for my shop to call me back to see if they can beat tire rack, discount tire, onlinetire, etc. was interested in the firestone indy ovals but the hankooks are almost $100 cheaper with the rebate. |
Got a Discount or America's Tire local to you? They beat tirerack every time I show em. Price matches close, even after the road hazard certificates. |
255 wtf you waiting on |
Hey Pat, I've got RX-8s as well. I'm saying go 235s. It'll fit without a roll for sure, and if you're not going BT, chances are you'll barely need the 235 and 245s would just make you feel slow. At least that's my rationale, plus I think 235s are cheaper in most cases. Food for thought. One final thought, if you care, 235/40s are almost exactly the same diameter as 215/45 and will only put your speedo off by .3%. |
I have the FSDs and have 235/40/18s without rubbing with a 47 offset. |
thanks. went with 235s. |
looks like I'm a little late, but I had both on RX8 wheels...235 fits better, no roll required, and sidewalls just felt better/stiffer. |
i got excited hearing 245 stories, but i'm happy i went with 235s. |
2 coats of primer and 1 coat of flat black so far... http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/t...7/IMAG0330.jpg debating whether or not to change the calipers from gold to black. |
Where's the snowplow ms3 pic? Ha. They look great! |
I LOVE my 245's, since I switched from the bfgoodrich KDW's to NT05's I've cured my rubbing issues. By issues I mean the extremely rare times it did rub. I'm rolled now though in preparation for some springs. Wheels look sick! |

Bricks in the back? Looks an inch lower |
|
How much per tire? It seems my stockers might need a change as one has a nice bubble that's developed on it. I don't want to just buy one and then switch sizes next year so might just bite the bullet and get all 4 Funny that you posted at 1117 pm on both days. |

i went ghetto and bought hankooks. $60 rebate sealed the deal. |
The fsd's dropped it a little? |
if the koni fsd's did drop it a little, i can't tell. i wish someone would mate stiffer springs to the koni fsd's. |
Looks good man. Glad you went with the 235s after all, and the Hankooks are what I'm running right now, great all around tire, especially for the price. |
I have 245/40 Hankooks on my RX8's right now (Bought the wheels with those tires already on). Haven't had rubbing as of yet, but I haven't had much weight in the back either (I rarely do). I'm on stock suspension and fenders are not rolled. Sounds like different tires, even in the same size, can have more issues than others from what Pheonix is saying. I'll probably go 235 when these tires are worn out. |
Just got a bolt in my tire, and it's near the sidewall so pretty sure the tire is toast. Trying to decide if I just want to upgrade the whole set or what. If I get a new set I'm thinking I'll probably go 235 so I don't have to worry about rubbing. What about 235/45/18? Would make overall diameter 9mm larger. Would that be an issue? Would give a slightly beefier sidewall... |
235/40R18 is the closest to stock rollout you can get. Genwon that is. |
There are some 245/40/18 Yoko S.Drive tires with 8/32 (down from 10/32) for sale for $185 for the set. I'm tempted but I'm thinking I'll rub pretty good with my 1" lowered with Cobb Springs. Anyone have any input? I ain't scared to roll the fenders I guess... |
My input is simply that those tyres are shit. |
im on 18x8 enkei with 235s. i spin in 2nd pretty easy so i was just about to pull the trigger on putting 245s on the fronts and leaving 235s in the back. what kind of steering response problems are you guys having? does it just seem like too big a tire? |
