Default 245/40-18 tire on RX-8 rims with stock suspension...yes I "Searched" !

Has anyone gotten away with mounting 245/40-18's on RX-8 rims on a Gen I MS3 with a stock suspension without rolling the rear fenders...no load or passengers in the rear..without any significant rubbing? A Search here and elsewhere gives a few , like 2 cases, where people said they got away with it. Any first hand experience?

THX

I won't say you are wrong, because technically you aren't... but you are not really right.

I have 245/40's on RX8's and I only rubbed a couple of times in the 3 weeks I drove the car before I rolled the rear fenders. So yeah, it is possible to rub. We have HORRIBLE roads here too. You do not rub except under the most extreme bumps and/or situation. The main reason I went ahead and rolled was because I plan on running a wider tire on the track as well as lowering the car.

There is a small part of the passenger side fender liner that WILL/DOES rub but it's a small easy little cut to make. I can send you pics if you like.

The only time I rubbed besides this piece of plastic was when cresting a speedpump/crosswalk that is on a downhill road while turning left onto an uphill road that is absolutely torn up... It's hard to describe, but it's a pretty brutal section of road.
