IMO, all 4, all the time.

And yeah, if I was running around with AWD, I'd be more inclined to try and get through the winter on all-seasons...braking performance might still not be up to my standards though...

At any rate, it ultimately comes down to what works for you and what you want to do.

I'm just voicing my opinions based upon my personal experiences.

So I'm lookin at the Continental ExtremeContact DWS vs the Toyo Proxes 4 - ratings are sooo close (I dun googled it all by myself!). I want it all: all season grip, low road noise, low wear rate, etc. What to do?
I bought the Continental ExtremeContact DWS right after the 1st snow in Ct. I should have done it earlier. We have had record snow and they did just fine. Doing well also in normal driving although I did give up a bit from the stock Dunlaps for cornering. Safe trade off for me though.

I'm in KY and I don't have any regrets about running snows. I have a difficult route out to a main road, so that helps my view. With 40 psi they're about like an oem Accord tire in the dry to me. I have no doubt that the DWS is superior in the snow to other all-seasons, but I doubt that it will last for long if used year-round.

I just got Dunlop Maxx TT as a replacement for Stars. Can't tell much yet, but they're definitely quieter. Normal driving steering response is fine, not as weirdly precise as the Stars, but fine. Ultimate grip will be down, but hopefully not enough to matter if you stay sane.

picked up the v12's and they cant even hold a candle to the Star Specs. Dunno how C&D rates stuff but if the StarSpecs placed 1st then in MY eyes the V12's would be 4th or 5th, they simply can't do what the Star Specs do.

You're comparing two tires that are in entirely different classes.
