Bigest size tires on speed6/3

What are all the different size tires that can be slapped on the OEM speed6/3 rims?.. without fender rolling? and how big with fender rolling?

very easy upgrade is to a 225/40/18 or a 225/45/18. The problem is that it's only a 7" rim which means you really shouldn't be throwing 235 or 245 series tires on there. Causes sidewall issues.

sp33dy6 10-26-2009 03:11 PM

i had kumo ecsta spt and without exaggeration on 225/40/18 i had to maybe change my tires 6 times in 3 months because every time i would hit even the slightest bump i would get a nipple on the tire. i really want the 235 for the look and handling... oh mann!!

danesti 10-26-2009 03:14 PM

235 is too wide for stock rim.
i had it. and regretted it.. really wished i went with 225

sp33dy6 10-26-2009 03:18 PM

so 225/45/18 or 225/40/18 ... i really dont want any more nipples.. i mean i love nipples just not on my tires =)

smakdown61 10-26-2009 05:27 PM

If you get nipples suck them away.

AmillieMS6 10-26-2009 05:58 PM

225/45

MrBig 10-26-2009 06:36 PM

225/40 is my choice for widest on stock wheel.

sp33dy6 10-26-2009 06:41 PM

yea but 225/45 is a lot stronger on bumps then the 40, by bumps i mean the harsh roads in NY

smakdown61 10-26-2009 08:53 PM

I have 225/45 right now. Its a bit heavier of a tire than the stock size or 225/40. It also rubs a bit if you have a full load in the car. I just got some ms6 rims with 225/40 on them.

sp33dy6 10-27-2009 02:05 PM

i think im gonna do the 225/45/18 ... now the tires lmfaooo!.. lets just say i recently got a tire connect =).. there is a few guys here with the evo x rims and tires and one i believe was running 255! thats fukin nuts!

AmillieMS6 10-27-2009 03:49 PM

i have 225/40/18 and let me tell you, i couldnt be any happier on stock wheels

mo4130 11-02-2009 02:27 PM

if you bumped up to like a 7.5 inch rim with the stock 54.5 mm back spacing and 225 45s would that cause any problems?

ms3077 11-02-2009 04:46 PM

I had 225/40 and just recently switch to 225/45.

I'd recommend the 225/40's for the performance and 225/45's for appearance. The tires I have on currently are great but I think they would be even better 225/40 on stock rims. You'll have more wheel gap but it's not too bad.

rodrigo 11-02-2009 04:52 PM

i think im gonna take a stab at 225/45/18 advan neovas ad08

That would be very hmmm... id love to just slap on some 245/45/18 ps2's and call it a day and just stick to the floor like flys on shit!

rodrigo 11-02-2009 05:18 PM

well i researched as much as i could and read as many reviews as i could....and grip wise and NOTHING else being considered the advans edged out the re-11's.... and 225/40/18 for drag racing will be worse than 225/45/18.... i dont care about cornering.... so for me that will have to be enough.

SpeedSixxx 11-02-2009 05:24 PM

UHG..I WRITE IN CAPS CAUSE I DUNNO WHAT THE HELL U GIZZARDS IS TAWKIN ABOUT...

I HAVE 235/40/18'S ON MY STOCK RIMS AND I HAVE NOT ONE ISSUE EVERRRRRRR

SPEEDY KNOWS MY CAR DRIVES AND HANDLES MINT WITH THESE TIRES...

DANE...OUT OF EVERYONE ON THIS THREAD THAT I NEVER MET..YOU ARE THE COOLEST DUDE..BUT WHAT BRAND TIRES YOU GET?..I DON'T GET IT

I HAVE FALKEN 235/40/18'S AND I NEVER HAD AN ISSUE.

WHY WOULD YOU GUYS GO FROM A 40 TO A 45?...WITH A 45 YOU ARE INCREASING THE SIZE OF THE SIDEWALL..AND IN MY OPINION THAT TAKES AWAY FROM THE STYLE AND LOOK...A LOWER PROFILE SIDEWALL IS SEXXIER THEN A LARGER ONE.

enough with caps....don't listen to everyone speedy..and just cause you know me don't mean you should take my full advice as well but when i see everyone swearing that 235/40/18 is no good...i'm like huh?...

i do admit the guy at my tire shop said...235 may rub but we will install one tire and try it around the block..didnt rub and had all of em installed...

now DANE....maybe you was running like 50 psi in those tires ..maybe that was makin em rub?..LOL....32 PSI for DD is perfect!..i dunno

if you want the widest tire with the lowest profile sidewall with out rubbing issues go with the falkens....maybe each tire company is diff juss like shoe companies?..

a size 10 in nike may be smaller or bigger then a size 10 in addidas?

danesti 11-02-2009 05:28 PM

sixxx...
right now i have nitto 555s (me thinks)
235/40/18...
rims are 8inch wide.

on stock wheels i had 235/40/18 at 30-33psi...
they didnt rub they were just pinched.

pinched as in the preggo bubbles on side walls??..

what would cause that>?...in my experience only hitting hard bumps and pot holes pouts thats preggo bubs in the sidewall...what else?

danesti 11-02-2009 05:45 PM

thats just the way they sat on there...
235 on stock rim...

225 on stock rim

Bigbody250 11-02-2009 05:46 PM

Just a wild hair up my ass but i was thinking about trying a 245/35/18 on a 8 inch rim with a 52 mm backpacing.... any comments on going 35? It should have about the same sidewall as a 225/40

mo4130 11-03-2009 06:26 PM

soo 225 is the widest you should run on stock rims. if you go to a 7.5 rim what is the narrowest tire you should go, the only reason is, after this winter, i wanna leave my snows on my stockers and get rims. But my re50s still have some life on them, but my next tire is going to be wider for sure so i just dint want to get new tires before i had to.

SpdFreak 11-06-2009 01:40 AM

Any one have a picture of the tire to spring perch clearance on a MS3 with 225/45-18 tires?

Stock, the tires are very close (about a half inch), and 225/45-18 are a larger diameter.

Ploppity Drown 11-06-2009 08:49 PM

I'm going with 225/45-18's when it's time for new tires, should fit the 18x7.5 MS Rays nicely. I only wish I had been in the market a few months back when Tire Rack was closing out the RE-01R's. My brother got a sick deal on a set for his STi.

djrivera 11-08-2009 01:32 AM

i have 235/40/18 toyo proxes4 on a 18x7.5 rim with a 48 offset...No rubbing at all during full lock or bumps or a large load. Love the grip/look/feel

jmil 11-13-2009 05:06 PM

so this may be a dumb and already answered question, but do 225/40/18's fit the stock rims with no problems?

every tire spec I see with 40 is made for 7.5 or higher... stock fits 7.0, right?

I want to get the 40's but does it fit right for every day driving?

yes it does...as long as ms6 and ms3's have the same rim size..

I have speed 6......235 / 40 / 18 and they dont pinch or anything...

jmil 11-14-2009 05:45 PM

do you know of anyone fitting 225/40/18 toyo proxie4's on the stockers?

On stock rims, 225/40 18 is the biggest you can go.

:: Gusto :: 12-05-2009 07:11 PM

dislike. what...

ive had 245 on my ms6.. they rub a lil.. but they fit.. heh

Haltech 12-15-2009 07:56 AM

255/40/18s will fit with a 8.5 wheel

Anklh 12-15-2009 01:00 PM

I use 245/40/18 on SSR 18x8 with a 48 off
Tires are RE-11's

They really fill out the well with a Stage 2 Cobb suspension.

Previously, I ran 225/45's and they rubbed the driver's side rear. So, the rears got rolled with that tool from TireRack.

Yes, every 225/40 series tire except Yokohama Parada Spec2's are still within manufacture specs for a 7’inch rim such as the MS3’s. This tire (Parada Spec2) fit like a match made in heaven on the stock MS3 rim and perform awesome. I went through two sets of these and enjoyed them but decided to try something else this time around because and I didn’t like the wheel gap so much. They would look wicked with a slight drop though.
