Figure based on rough tire weighing, about 44-46 lbs of unsprung weight shaved off. Yay!

Very nice! do you have any rubbing with that rim/tire combo? Im looking into Motegi Traklites, but dont want any rubbing problems.
Also, do you plan on lowering ever?

edit: i plan on getting 235's does it look like those will be okay as well?

sweetpickles 04-08-2008 07:41 PM

Those are so much sexier than my rpf1s :( Oh well *sigh*

I haven't really pushed the car yet, nor fully compressed the rear suspension. Other people have said this particular combo will not rub, but to me, it looks a little close to the lip in the rear. I think with 235's with this particular tire, might rub for sure on the rear fender lip. Keep in mind, this is primarily due to the RT615 being a wider tire per its sizing then other tires.

When I've really pushed the car, or had a chance to fully compress the rear (next time my friends are over I'll have them all sit in the trunk and push it down), then I'll give you a 100% rub/no rub claim.

As for lowering...most likely not, unless rpm releases a set of springs that only drop the car about 0.5 inches...even then, you've still gotta worry about the whole shocks blowing early and stuff, so would probably end up getting a nice set of coilovers. I'm very hesitant though, as my last car was practically slammed and I was constantly having clearance issues...and this car is already pretty low!

Most people don't seem to realize that anytime you just replace the springs, you're killing the poor shocks. They've got to do more dampening work in less distance, and wear down significantly faster. It's best to pick a shock/spring set (hopefully with something like a koni that increases suspension travel to compensate for the lowering), or go with full coilovers.

and I haven't seen the shock travel on the 3 yet...but on the 6, it was bad. Dropping the car more then an inch took your shock life down to roughly 15-20k miles.

Crossbow,

Cobb claims that their springs are a better match for the stock struts than the stock springs are. So hopefully, that translates to not prematurely wearing out the struts, but who knows.

By the way, nice wheels. I have 17x7s of the same wheel with my winter tires on them. Would have gotten that size had I not found the deal I did on eBay.

Crossbow 04-09-2008 10:13 AM

Midwest,
Anytime you reduce suspension travel, you increase the work the shocks have to do. If you have 2 inches of suspension travel, and you drop your car one inch, the shock now has to do twice the work to dampen the car, as it has half the distance in which to do so.

More work = more heat/stress = less life. Regardless of whether or not the company states it was "matched" to the stock shocks or not...it doesn't mean their longevity isn't effected. More then not, they just tried to match the spring rate to the damper rates. I only wish they'd release a set that had a much more minor drop. I'd rather have half the drop and just get the spring rates.

if I wasn't so deep in the MS6, I'd have a white MS3>love your car
17" light weight wheels are sweet
dark wheels on light paint schemes are my fav too
good job!

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

Maybe I'll get the sway bars and see how the car handles and then look into getting lighterweight rims. If I dont feel like I need stiffer springs after the sway bars, I can leave it stock height and get something like this. I just REALLY wish there was another 17x8 rim that weighs around as much as this with a much higher offset. Motegi Traklites and Kosei K1's are so nice.

nice wheels there!

I love my GramLight 18s.... but I've been considering these exact wheels as of late for some reason..... now I remember why ;) They look nice and knowing that they are even lighter is GREAT!

I can't knock the Koseis but better than rpf1s? I think not. Both are very light wheels.

sweetpickles 04-11-2008 08:42 PM

Mine don't look nearly as good when viewing directly from the side - the big metal lip is just weird looking. I like them from an angle though.

In any case, looks-wise I'd much rather have some K1-TSs ;)

Crossbow 04-12-2008 09:12 AM

Well that just comes down to everyones opinion! Which is why there is so many fantastic wheels. If money was no object, I probably would have gotten some fiske's, or another set of SSR's, or eneki's, or Rays. But these fit my bill perfectly, and if one is destroyed, I won't cry and cry like I did when my SSR rim cracked. :(

pbblaster 06-30-2008 04:21 AM

Hey Crossbow,

Have you had any rubbing yet? I am interested in a set similar to this . How do you like the tires?

Lvis 02-20-2009 05:15 PM

nice cobb springs?

i demand more pics! lol

Crossbow 03-19-2009 03:24 PM

No cobb springs. That's stock ride height. pblaster, I haven't had any rubbing issues, though I haven't tracked or autox'ed yet, which I always feel is the #1 way to determine if anything is ever gonna rub. But ya, in normal street/fun driving and moving stuff I haven't had an issue yet. I do sometimes get an odd sound if I turn lock to lock, but it doesn't seem to be related to the wheels or tires, as I get the same thing with the snow tires/wheels.

I'm actually going to see about running 235 Z212's for my next shoe. Only problem with RT615 and Z212 hankooks...is the things don't last that long! lol
