Default i need a wheel lug expert!!

Hey guys i need some help identifying if i bought real or fake "D1 Spec Racing Lug Nuts". The place i bought them from assure me the are real even going so far as sending me a picture of his with some important person from the company.
i know the open ended lugs style hexagon shape have a lot of fakes floating around because the laser etching is poor.
you might be thinking who cares? im just concerned it could fail and i lose a wheel. they seem solid so just looking for any input if you have any or can read taiwanese on the packaging haha.
here are some pics!

Just keep them torqued and I'm sure you won't have to worry about a wheel falling off. At 30 dollars, it doesn't look like much of a loss even if they are fakes, but I'm not sure who would go through the trouble of producing a knock off of a 30 dollar product.

Ughhh.... just a couple questions. If you're concerned with losing a wheel, why did you buy cheap lug nuts? What was wrong with the oem ones?

yeah totally good questions..the oem ones are destroyed from what im guessing is being taken off every 15 min by an impact gun and are starting to rust and its driving me crazy looking at them. as for buying cheap ones i just bought alot of expensive mods for the car that are more important than lugs so not much mooonies in my wallet haha.
i didnt know that fakes even existed until after i received them..and i googled them just to see what the deal is with this company and then "fakes" came up in the search bar...then got worried about their quality.

Sorry, but I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for. I honestly think you should not have skimped out on the nuts that hold your wheels on, but to each his own. You might have headaches in the future, even if they are real. Like the guy above said check to make sure they are torqued every so often.

TBH, I still use the oem's. Never had a problem, yet. So I really can't recommend a good brand. Anything that SURE or Edge carries I would trust.

On my previous car, I had bought other lugnuts for cheap and what ended up happening was that after a few on/off, like rotating tires, the threads inside became messed up. Eventually I had to literally torque them down every other day. The metal they were made from was shit, hence why they were cheap. That's something you might have issues with.

Don't know if anyone else has ever had issues with cheap lugs on the speed platform. All I know is I did, and will never cheap out again. It's just not worth it to have a wheel fall off.

EDIT* This kid I know bought cheap lug nuts from autozone to put on his truck. His wheel came off while he was doing like 60mph because apparently 3 of the 5 nuts had fatigued to the point to where they backed themselves off the studs. His trucked was completely totaled and he spent 2 months in the hospital.

some great tips. i was going to keep an eye on them for being torqued properly every week until they are proven and if i find they tend to come lose i will set up some sort of service annoncement so no one else buys them.

shit. that is a nightmare. exactly what i was thinking about. i guess the locking nuts that i have i could keep on but that probably wouldnt do anything if three completly backed themselves off.
maybe visual inspection as well as retorque every week or so? and if anything is off i make a change?
i googled the shit out of them and cant find any dirt on them other than on the packaging it says made in japan but on their site it says they are located in taiwan. so thats weird.

I can clearly see in your third photo that the thread pitch is actually 1.45 instead of 1.5. You're fucked.

So you're telling me you can see in millimeters?
It says on the package that it's 1.5.

I used the thickness of your fingernail to determine the scale and estimated the thread pitch from that.

I can't tell if you're messing with me or you're some sort of savant but then my next question would be..you can tell that my fingernail is 0.05 shorter than the thread inside the nut?

I have those lugs, I love them for the simple fact that you cant take any of them off without the Lug Key.

That was the main selling point for me! Someone already stole my headlights and HID's so I need my wheels haha. Then found out after about fakes and blah blah I normally wouldn't care but that's a important part that's structural integrity needs to be sound.
Now I don't know if the guy above you is having a laugh at my expense (which is fine by the way haha) saying the pitch is wrong but they said they were 1.5 which our studs are.
Hope they don't wreck anything..

Don't let the lug design think you're safe. Anyone can spend 15 dollars and buy a set of gorilla lugs or the lugs you have and then have the key. There's nothing unique or special about them. If a thief wants the wheels, he'll get the wheels.

Yeah for sure cheap lugs are just cheap lugs. These were middle of the road id say as far as price but hey Roddiy did you have any problems with them and are they the exact same as the ones I bought?

a lot of those "JDM" or whatever lugs are made by other companies in China or Taiwan that also make cheaper / offbrand ones. There are so few companies left that make their own shit even in Japan. A lot of time it's all just branding and marketing bs.

Where did you purchase them from ?

I got em off eBay for about 35 or 40 dollars. Mine were rusted so bad it was such an eye sore. I have had them on for awhile now and haven't had any problems. I just followed these guys tips about torquing them every week until they prove themselves.
